Chapter 9. Dangerous sea

Ace and Nami continued on with the goal of reaching the Grand Line.

After crossing the mountain of redline, they reached the first half of Grand Line. But what welcomed them was a tornado that was coming straight at them.

"W-W-WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO!" Nami shouted in fear. The redline mountain range was behind them so they had nowhere to escape.

Ace walked forward looking at the gigantic tornado rushing towards them.

Nami stared at him in fear, hoping that he would device a plan. She saw a wisp of fire burst out of him as it flew up towards the sky.

As the wisp of fire flew towards the sky, it started spinning and growing into a tornado of flames as well. The heat creating a mist to rise from the sea. the flame tornado started spinning towards a direction from the black pearl.

Ace increased the heat of his flame tornado, to make sure that the warm air would rise faster creating a vacuum.

Which made the tornado that was coming towards them, change directions and start following the flame tornado.

At the same time the black pearl went full speed towards the opposite direction.

Only after sailing for a while, and no longer feeling any strong winds, did Nami relax.

"How crazy unlucky we must be to see a tornado as soon as we arrive in the grandline." Nami said in relief.

"No, actually, it isn't as simple as that." Ace said with a grin, excited to finally set sail in the dangerous sea of grandline and find opponents to fight.

"What do you mean?" Nami asked, wondering why Ace sounded so ominous.

"The grandline is famous for its unstable weather and storms. One second, you're having the best weather ever, the next second it's the worst storm you've seen." Ace said looking into the horizon.

"Haha wheeew, you almost had me worried there, you read too many comic books." Nami said, not believing him.

"Then how do you explain that?" Ace asked as he pointed in a specific direction. Something awesomely scary was there.

"..."

"..."

"...You weren't joking?"

"Does that thing not convince you?" Ace asked.

"No, it's very convincing, I think we should turn back and return home."

"Ah... about that, normal compasses don't work here... we have no sense of directions since the seas have undercurrents that change the directions of all sailing ships. it's impossible to know North from South... and the islands in grandline produce atypical magnetic fields which makes the normal compasses useless." Ace said sheepishly as he looked towards the gigantic snow storm in the distance that they were sailing towards.

The Storm was so dense that they could barely see through it.

"Then.. how do we sail through the grandline without being stuck in the sea..." Nami asked, her face became pale and she sounded somewhat hopeless.

"These things will show us to the closest island." Ace said as he handed her a log pose.

"Don't worry, with these we'll be able to navigate the sea..." Ace said, trying to reassure her as she looked very nervous.

"Does it matter... we probably won't be able to survive that." She said as she pointed at the nearing storm of winter, snow and ice.

A few hours later, Nami hid inside the black pearl while Ace was at the front, blasting fire everywhere to melt ice and help the black pearl to keep sailing.

Luckily, the cold never bothered him anyways, since he had the abilities of the flame flame no mi.

Ace's familiarity with the abilities of the fruit were greater than canon because in the canon, Ace had only had the fruit for a few years, at most 3 and the least 2 years.

But this time, he had received the abilities since his reincarnation which made him very, very capable.

From outside you could see a dense storm of snowfall, it looked like heavy clouds. and amongst those snow clouds, one could occasionally see red, orange and yellow flames light up big part of the storm.

This continued for two days. Ace was still at the forefront of The Black Pearl, his body radiating heat so powerfully that all snow in the vicinity turned into rain, then evaporated into the sky.

Every now and then they would come across an iceberg and Ace would shoot flames at it, either destroying it or melting it.

After a few hours, the storm started receding and although it still kept snowing heavily you could make out the sea and Ace could rest up.

"Ace, the log pose you gave me started behaving strangely," Nami shouted from the inside.

"Hmm, it's because we've reached land." Ace said, also surprised to see an island right In front of him.

The storm and weather had made it hard to spot it.

Nami carefully came out wearing a warm jacket for the cold and was excited to finally reach land.

But her face dropped when she saw that it was an island of Snow. There seemed to be no living thing on the island, only a small mountain in the middle.

Ace however knew that there were people on the island as he felt a few life forms at the mountain.

"Should we continue on? we've only been at sea for two days since we left louge town, our reserves can last 3 more weeks." She said.

"No, there are people at the foot of the mountain, let's meet them."

"..." Nami looked at the mountain but saw no evidence of life.

'Has the storm broken his brain?'

"I will stay here and guard the ship..." She said as she returned inside.

Ace could hear from her voice that she wasn't interested in investigating the island so he simply shrugged.

Ace jumped off the Black Pearl and landed on snow with his flip flops. He wore an open, yellow shirt, black shorts, and his black hat.

It looked very out of place as he walked through the cold winter with a summers attire, yet whenever snow came near him, it evaporated.

Ace walked throught he snowfall as if it was nothing to him until he reached the small mountain.

There, he found an opening to a cave which flickered with light, and he heard laughs and shouts from the inside.

'Is there a party in here?' Ace thought as he started to walk in.
