Ch 14: The first boss battle [pt2]

“Ashura, do something. I don’t think I can keep on dodging for any longer.”

Kurina complained as the boss continued to focus on her. She did not know what she did to gain its attention, but this was good luck for their side.

It allowed them to attack the boss and take it by surprise. And this was all going too well when the boss decided it no longer wanted to play around.

With a roar, it ramped its fist into the ground adjacent to Kurina’s current position and cracked open. Kurina lost her balance and she fell.

The boss brought its big fist over her head and Kurina closed her eyes. She was going to die here.

Only, that did not happen. She looked up to see 21 blocking the boss with his body. It barely held on and the impact caused a lot of his bones to be broken. But he had somehow managed to survive.

“21! Hey, 21! Are you alright? Ashura, hurry up and shoot now. Did you get that bow just for show?”

Kurina asked as she looked up with fearful eyes. To think that this could have been her if she had not been saved just now. She was thankful for 21’s help in this regard.

Ashura gritted his teeth as he took out the bow they had won from the trial. He had decided to become its owner because he was the oldest and had the most strength to weird it.

The bow might look light, but it required a surprising amount of power to wield it. He pulled the string back and an arrow made up of light embedded itself in the boss.

The boss cried out in pain but it did not stop its rampage. The injury did not even slow it down this much in reality. But this gave everyone hope that they could fight against this monster.

‘These humans would not last long against the boss. Soon, it would enter its enraged state. You need to get rid of it before that if you want to stay alive.’

Alex heard that voice in his head once more. He was becoming more and more certain that it was trying to help him out. He could also feel flashes of knowledge swirling inside his mind along with that foreign female voice.

His desire to kill this boss was increasing by the second. He wanted to serve its back from its body and to do that he needed a weapon.

His memories showed him a way to manifest a weapon in his hand made up of magic. And when Alex decided to follow that action, it felt familiar and practised. He was sure that he had held a magical weapon before.

Or at least, he had tried to form it before.

“Hey, snap out of your daze Alex. Can’t you see that we are fighting for our lives here? You cannot stand around and do nothing. Mahiru, get behind me.”

The youngest of the group looked startled but she did as she had been told. She trusted Ashura above all since he had been protecting her.

As soon as Alex had been shaken by Ashura, he lost his concentration and his weapon dispersed. No one seemed to have noticed this but it did annoy Alex a little.

The good news was, that aura was still around his body and Alex could feel it enhancing his strength. It would act as an insulation for him.

“Hey, look out. The boss is-”

Kurina called out but it was too late. The boss was already upon their location and it raised its first in the air to attack.

Ashura had relieved a stat boost along with the weapon in his hand so he would likely be able to dodge this attack. But he could only save one person between Mahiru and Alex.

‘I am sorry Alex. But Mahiru is my first concern here.’

Ashura grabbed Mahiru and dodged that attack. He felt sad about getting Alex killed off but that was something that had to be done. After all, Mahiru was special and she needed to live.

Alex, on the other hand, was not surprised at this turn of events. He knew that he would not be anyone’s first choice when it came to saving lives. So, he needed to get strong enough to survive on his own.

This boss had a grey aura and it also had a mindless nature. This was the first time Alex had noticed that things had an aura but his eyes adjusted to things quite nicely.

That giant fist connected with Alex’s raised arms and the impact hurt just a little. But it was nowhere overwhelming enough for Alex to back down and he could tell that the boss was confused.

‘Pawns of the god of destruction are foolish creatures. These minions cannot hurt someone who has received my blessing.’

The female voice spoke in Alex’s mind as she pressured him to release more is his power. And that made Alex’s body hurt. It felt as if he was being torn apart from the inside.

But that power was everything he needed in his life. His eyes shined with want and he looked up at the boss with a hungry look on his face.

The boss looked taken aback by Alex’s intense gaze and he even took a step back in fright. But Alex continued to pressure the boss even more, closing in on him and ramping his fist against the boss’s arm.

The boss stepped back in alarm as pain surged in his arm. The boss never expected a human to give him such a hard time. But here he was, proven wrong once more.

“Alex, are you alright? Are you alive after that? Huh? You don’t look injured.”

Ashura checked up on Alex from afar and he looked surprised to see Alex standing on his feet. Not only that, but Alex looked relatively unharmed.

“Ah, this? I received a buff during my trial. I think I can take this boss down on my own if I utilize my buff right.”

Alex was not lying.

Technically.

But he did feel as if he was the most powerful thing in the room. The boss would not be a problem for him to handle and the boss realized that as well.

So, it decided to change targets. These kids were getting annoying for him to deal with so he decided to take care of the lone magician in the room first.

Everyone looked startled to see the boss change directions and head toward him. Baron Luke had not expected such a development to occur and he was stumped.

‘That Shaman never said that something like this would happen to me. Oh god, what do I do now?’

Baron Luke was scared on the inside but he did not show it on the outside. He raised his magic staff and held it in front of him. He wanted to threaten the boss as much as he could.

“Don’t come near me or I will be forced to fight you with my powers. And you do not want to fight me, alright? You will never be able to win against me so don’t even try it trick me. Hey, do you not hear me?”

Baron Luke yelled at the boss but the boss ignored it all and continued to walk toward him.

“Oh shit, this is bad. If Baron Luke dies, then we will all face a certain death. We need to kill that boss at all costs.”

Ashura yelled but he also looked hopeless. He doubted that he would be able to kill the boss with a single arrow. But that was all the time he had to fire off.

Alex felt knowledge enter his mind. He was certain that he could manipulate his magic to coat an existing weapon. That would be easier to do than to form a brand-new weapon using magic.

“Ashura, load your bow. I will try to use my blessing on it. Hurry up.”

Ashura looked uncertain but he loaded his bow and an arrow of light formed. Alex focused his magic to move and envelop the arrow in front of him. It worked but it was not perfect in any way.

But that had to do for now.

Ashura fired the arrow and it hit the boss a few steps away from Baron Luke’s current location. The boss stilled and it seemed as if the boss had died.

But then it let out a loud cry and continued to walk once more. The boss had been critically injured but the boss had not died yet. And this spelt the end of Baron Luke and the hopes of ending everyone’s curse as well.

“Don’t come here. I said, don’t come here. *hic* Someone, help me?”

Baron Luke held his staff up in the air. It was something that had been passed down in his family for generations and it was supposed to be his brother’s before he disappeared.

Maybe it would be able to do something for him? Like, save his life or even give him superpowers he could use against the big boss?

But nothing happened and the boss attacked Baron Luke head-on. It seemed as if it would be the end of his life.
