Chapter 157: Doctor Strange vs. Thanos

"Who else? Black Widow?" Bruce Banner gestured to Natasha Romanoff to try lifting the hammer.

"No thanks, I don't want to get involved in this question," Natasha Romanoff, holding a bottle of wine, rejected without hesitation.

"Let's pay tribute to our uncrowned king!" Tony Stark said, "But this is cheating! The handle must have a fingerprint recognition device, like a password, and it only allows those worthy of Thor's fingerprint to lift it."

"Well, your idea is very interesting, but my explanation is simpler." Thor stood up, grabbed the hammer, and lifted it, "None of you are worthy."

"Thor, don't you feel embarrassed saying that? There are two people sitting next to you who are worthy," Tony Stark couldn't help but say.

"Captain was giving you face, and Romanoff didn't participate," Clint Barton also said, "Pity that you thought we really couldn't lift it and felt proud of yourself."

"I shouldn't have given you face back then," Steve Rogers said, "If I knew you would say this later."

"Me too, I would have picked up the hammer and smashed it on your head," Natasha Romanoff said.

"Can you blame me?" Thor's face turned a bit red, "You guys, if you can lift it, just do it. Why hide it?"

As Thor spoke, the room was filled with boos.

"Eligibility..." But at that moment, a ragged and seemingly unfinished robot appeared.

"No." The robot turned around and looked at the Avengers, "How can you be worthy? You are a group of murderers."

"Stark," Steve Rogers called out.

"J.A.R.V.I.S.," Tony Stark called out to J.A.R.V.I.S.

"Apologies for dozing off." The robot turned to look around, "Or, was I just dreaming?"

"Reboot." Tony Stark operated something like a glass plate, "Iron Legion Unit 6 is malfunctioning."

"The noise is really annoying, and these strings bind me." The robot said, "I had to get rid of that guy. He was a good man."

"You killed someone?" Steve Rogers asked.

"I had no choice either." The robot said, "But unfortunately, there are always difficult choices in real life."

"Who sent you?" Thor asked.

"What I see is a world under armor and defense..." the robot said.

"Ultron." Bruce Banner finally recognized Ultron.

"It is I, myself." The robot, Ultron, raised his head, "It's not quite appropriate to say that now, as I am still within this cocoon, but I am ready. I have a mission."

"What mission?" Natasha Romanoff asked.

"The peace of our era." Ultron said. At the same time, several other robots smashed through the glass and flew towards the Avengers.

The video ended with darkness.

[Answering the fifth question, prepare yourself.]

The two vials of the serum appeared on the ground.

"No pain, I like that." Clint Barton picked up the vials and handed one of them to Natasha Romanoff.

"Thanks." Natasha Romanoff said with gratitude, taking the vial and injecting it into her arm with a "plunge," pushing the serum into her body.

"Don't be polite with me." Clint Barton also injected the syringe into his arm.

"How do you feel?" Steve Rogers asked after the injections were done.

"I feel very energetic, full of strength." Clint Barton turned around, opened his mouth, and a burst of flames spewed out.

"Wow~" Tony Stark gave a thumbs up, "You can breathe fire now!"

"Now I won't lag behind in the team with Barton." Natasha Romanoff moved her right hand, and the hand turned fiery red, as if magma was flowing in it. It could easily melt steel.

"Romanoff, you're really hot now." Bruce Banner said.

"I remember someone said they'd drink Romanoff's bathwater." Tony Stark said, "That's not possible anymore, Romanoff will boil the bathwater, and he'll be scalded to death."

[The fifth question begins, please prepare.]

[In "Avengers: Infinity War," Doctor Strange handed over the Time Stone to the cosmic tyrant Thanos to save whose life?]

[A. Thor, the God of Thunder]

[B. Iron Man, Tony Stark]

[C. Hulk, Bruce Banner]

[D. Captain America, Steve Rogers]

[If you answer this question correctly, you'll be rewarded with the ability to suppress pain, which can suppress pain. If you answer incorrectly, one year of your lifespan will be deducted

"Finally, it's my turn for the question!" Stephen Strange said excitedly, "I've been looking forward to it!"

"Yeah, it's finally your turn," Tony Stark said, "but the reward doesn't seem that great."

"..." Stephen Strange's enthusiastic smile froze for a moment. Indeed, the reward didn't seem that great. What use was the ability to suppress pain?

"But being able to know your own future is also good," Stephen Strange said after a pause.

"This time, a new term appeared, 'Infinity War'," Steve Rogers pointed to the question and said solemnly, "After the Battle of New York and the Age of Ultron, a new term has emerged."

"The Battle of New York represents Loki leading the Chitauri invasion of Earth, and the Age of Ultron represents Ultron leading an army of robots to destroy the world. These two battles with 'exclusive names' are all battles that threaten all of humanity," Bruce Banner said with a serious expression, "So this Infinity War is bound to be no simple matter."

"Is it Thanos leading his own army to destroy Earth?" Stephen Strange asked.

"Very likely," Thor said, "Thanos is very powerful. Even with the three of us teaming up, we couldn't beat him. But no matter how powerful he is, it's wishful thinking for one person to want to destroy Earth. He must have his own army."

"It's really troublesome..." Clint Barton rubbed his temples, "Thanos' power alone is already enough to make people despair, but I didn't expect that he's not alone, and he has his own army."

"There was a future where there was a big battle against Thanos. Captain, Stark, and I teamed up, but we were beaten badly," Natasha Romanoff speculated, "Is this about the time when Stephen Strange handed over the Time Stone to save someone's life?"

"I think it's unlikely," Clint Barton said, "Stephen Strange is very powerful too. If he was there at that time, I think he wouldn't need to hand over the stone. He could have just teamed up with Captain and me and maybe we could've defeated Thanos."

"That's not necessarily the case," Steve Rogers said, "Battle is a very complex thing, with too many factors at play. Until the moment the victory or defeat is decided, no one can predict the outcome. Besides, in the video, Thanos looked very confident. Who knows how much power he was holding back."

"So is it me, Captain, and Thor fighting Thanos in that battle?" Tony Stark asked.

"It's hard to say," Thor said.

"Banner also appeared in the options. Could that be a battle where Banner was also involved?" Clint Barton guessed again.

"That's also hard to determine," Steve Rogers said, "There's too little information to judge."

"Stephen, who do you think you'll save?" Bruce Banner asked.

"Among the four options, Thor is a god, and his body can withstand neutron stars; if Banner is there, he'll definitely appear as the green Hulk form, and in that form, he can even laugh off missiles," Stephen Strange said, "So I believe the chances of their lives being threatened are smaller."

"That sounds reasonable, coming from the perspective of a doctor," Natasha Romanoff said, "It's somewhat convincing."

"The other two options, Captain is a super soldier, and his physical abilities far exceed those of ordinary people; Stark is the only normal human among us, and he's the most likely to suffer serious injuries, or even death," Stephen Strange continued, "However, if on the battlefield, Stark, can't you have some patience? I was about to get to that part," Stephen Strange said, "So, considering everything, I think Captain's life is more at risk. I choose option D!"

[Answering incorrectly! Deducting one year of lifespan!]

"..." Stephen Strange thought that his analysis was pretty solid, but the result turned out to be unexpected.

Soon, the video started playing.

The opening scene was shocking. It showed a wasteland, covered in ashes and debris, with fireballs falling like shooting stars from the sky.

Thanos overturned a piece of debris with one hand and strode forward, while Doctor Strange, Stephen Strange, was floating in the air, descending to the ground.

Without any nonsense, Doctor Strange clapped his hands, and then extended them, each producing a golden disc. He squatted down, and with a forceful pat on the ground, two golden energy beams shot out like molten lava, heading straight for Thanos.

Thanos jumped, avoiding the energy beams that hit the ground below him. He then extended his left hand and a blue energy beam shot towards Stephen Strange.

Stephen Strange gestured with his palms, and the space in front of him seemed to transform into a combination of mirrors. The blue energy beams shot out by Thanos were immediately blocked by the "giant mirror." Then, the mirror charged straight at Thanos, but with a punch, Thanos shattered it into countless sparkling fragments.

Thanos pulled back his fist, and blue light flashed on his fist as a vortex of energy formed above it, crazily devouring the surrounding matter. In an instant, a large tornado-like vortex of energy surged towards Stephen Strange.

Stephen Strange rubbed his palms together, and a massive golden circular disc appeared in front of him. When the energy vortex hit the golden disc, it instantly turned into countless green butterflies.

Then, Stephen Strange floated up again. He gestured with both arms, and numerous arms appeared behind him. These arms stretched out, and countless Doctor Strange duplicates flew out of his body.

Suddenly, the entire sky was filled with Stephen Stranges, densely packed, completely enveloping Thanos.

Those Stephen Stranges extended their hands, and orange energy whips appeared in their hands. Then, they all swung down their whips, and countless energy whips landed on Thanos, tightly binding him.

This move was extremely dazzling and seemed to have a very clear effect. Thanos was completely restrained and couldn't break free.

However, Thanos had another move. He clenched his left fist, and a blue light flashed. In an instant, all the Stephen Stranges in the sky disappeared, leaving only the original one hovering in the air.

Thanos extended his hand, and the distance between him and Stephen Strange inexplicably shortened. Just a moment ago they were over ten meters apart, but the next second, Stephen Strange was right in front of Thanos.

"You've got quite a few tricks up your sleeve," Thanos said as he grabbed Stephen Strange's neck with his big hand and pulled a golden disc hanging around his neck. "But it seems you've never used your killer move."

Snap!

Thanos squeezed the golden disc, and it instantly crumbled. He scattered the fragments and looked at Stephen Strange, saying, "It's a fake."

Then, Thanos casually threw Stephen Strange aside.

At that moment, a piece of iron flew over and stuck to Thanos' left palm. Tony Stark, clad in his armor, descended from the sky.

"If you throw the moon at me again, I'll go all out against you," Tony Stark said to Thanos.

"Stark," Thanos called out Tony Stark's name.

"You know me?" Tony Stark was somewhat surprised.

"Of course," Thanos said, "You're not the only one cursed with knowledge."

"My only curse is you," Tony Stark said, and as he finished speaking, several small bombs suddenly emerged from the back of his armor. He sent them flying towards Thanos.

"Come at me," Thanos said as he stood still. The next moment, all the bombs landed on him. Amidst the booming explosions, a cloud of smoke engulfed his body.

However, Tony Stark knew that Thanos couldn't fly. The moment the bombs exploded, he launched a new attack.

Suddenly, a starfish-like device emerged from the back of his armor, jetting out beautiful blue energy, giving the armor enough propulsion. His legs turned into a thick pillar, which he used to kick Thanos hard.

Then, he performed a backflip and transformed his legs back into two legs. To stand more steadily, his two feet also deformed into suction cup-like shapes, firmly planting him on the ground.

Not only did his legs change, but his hands also transformed. They turned into two large pillars, and blue energy beams sprayed out from his elbows, fiercely hitting Thanos.

Thanos didn't seem affected at all. He reached out and grabbed Tony Stark's head. With a single squeeze, the steel helmet was crushed, revealing his head. Then, he punched Tony Stark in the face.

This time, he drew blood from Tony Stark.

Thanos touched the bloodstains on his face, looked at Tony Stark, and said, "It took so much effort, just to make me bleed a little."

Then, he smiled and knocked Tony Stark to the ground with a single hit. He pounded Tony Stark relentlessly with his iron fist.

After a series of punches, he grabbed Tony Stark's head with one hand and punched him in the chest, sending him flying over ten meters away.

Watching Thanos step towards him with a contemptuous smile, Tony Stark extended his hand and shot dazzling energy beams at Thanos. However, Thanos raised his left hand, blocking the energy beams effortlessly.

Tony Stark stretched out both hands and fired energy beams simultaneously, but two hands were no different from one. Neither could do anything to Thanos, who walked step by step towards Tony Stark, enduring the energy beams.

After exchanging two punches with Thanos, Tony Stark's armor flowed, and he condensed a large sword in his right hand, thrusting it towards Thanos.

Thanos directly grabbed the sword, broke it, and then stabbed Tony Stark with the broken end, causing him to spit out blood and lose his combat capability.

"You are a worthy opponent," Thanos said as he held Tony Stark's head, looking at him. "After I succeed, half of the people will still be alive. I hope they all remember you."

Tony Stark sat there, blood dripping from the corners of his mouth, looking at Thanos in agony.

At that moment, Stephen Strange's voice called out, "Stop!" Thanos slowly turned his head and saw Stephen Strange crawling out of the rubble, sitting there.

"Release him," Stephen Strange said, "and I will give you the Time Stone."

"Don't play tricks," Thanos replied, still pointing at Tony Stark.

Stephen Strange stretched out his hand, making a pinching gesture, and a green gem appeared between his fingers. When he opened his hand, the gem flew towards Thanos.

Thanos caught the Time Stone with his right hand and placed it into the Infinity Gauntlet on his left hand. He looked at the gauntlet and said, "Only one stone left."

The space darkened, and the video ended there.

All eyes were on Stephen Strange.

"Doctor Strange, you are way too powerful!" Pietro Maximoff's eyes showed a hint of admiration. "I think you are stronger than all the Avengers!"

"It's just average power," Stephen Strange responded modestly, though he felt pleased by Pietro's words.

"That scene where you bound Thanos in the sky was so cool, especially the way you did it!" Pietro Maximoff praised.

"Strange, we spent a lot of time looking for you before, and your power did not disappoint," Steve Rogers said, expressing his satisfaction with Stephen Strange's performance.

"Stark's power is also impressive," Bruce Banner added. "That armor was almost godlike."

"It was indeed powerful," Clint Barton agreed. "The armor was simply breathtaking."

"It's just average," Tony Stark said casually. Suddenly, he felt like he'd said that before. He glanced at Stephen Strange, and coincidentally, Stephen Strange was also looking at him. They seemed to share a moment of mutual understanding.

For some reason, they both felt a touch of disdain in each other's eyes.

"Doctor Strange is very powerful, and Iron Man is too, but it seems like Thanos is even more powerful," Natasha Romanoff poured cold water on the excited group. "Even though Strange and Stark are so powerful, they still couldn't resist Thanos."

"The Cosmic Conqueror, indeed worthy of his name," Stephen Strange said. "Without this level of power, how could one dominate the universe?"

"I think I understand why this war is called 'Infinity War' now," Thor spoke up. "That 'infinity' refers to the Infinity Stones."

"Yes, Thanos already has four stones on his gauntlet, and after he got the Time Stone from Strange, he said, 'Only one stone left.' It's clear that he is collecting the Infinity Stones," Steve Rogers explained.
