It’s just a joke

The balloons floating overhead suddenly started popping and showered the place with glitter and brightly colored confetti. Half of them burst while the remaining balloons changed to a darker shade of slimy green and inflated to massive proportions.

"What the hell's going on here?" Xander stared at the ceiling with widened eyes as the ghastly light mingled with the darkness to create an eerie atmosphere. "Listen, kid, I don't know who you are, but when I find you, things won't end well."

Hoarse laughter echoed within the tent as painted white eyes and round red noses peeped from the darkness. As Xander looked around, he saw garishly dressed clowns emerging from the shadows, their distorted white faces resplendent with bloody scars.
