Expect the unexpected

As the rain continued its relentless assault outside, she delved into the pages of the romantic tale. The cloudy skies obscured the sun but her dimly lit lamplight provided enough light for her to read comfortably.

The words wove a spell around her, transporting her to a world of passion, longing, and tender whispers. Selena had never read something of this calibre before. 

The books she was usually exposed to were educational and or historical but this was the first book she had read that was fictional and romantic. She was so enchanted by it that she didn't notice when Joan brought over some tea. She had even forgotten that Howard was in the same room as her.

Joan was about to pour out some tea for her when Howard volunteered instead. He asked her to wait outside and told her he would take care of her. Joan wasn't sure what to do. She knew that these two would soon be married but she wasn't certain whether to leave them alone or not.
