POV of Captain of lys first moon 285 AC

Everything was going so well, the war was greatly favoring the interests of Lys and it even seemed that there was a small possibility that the eternal war between our cities could finally end with Lys prevailing against the other cities due to the circumstances that were happening.

Tyrosh suffered a heavy defeat because of the joint attack we had made with the city of Myr, thousands of their mercenaries died on the battlefields and several of their cities changed sides, leaving them in a very weak position, they almost had to abandon all their positions in the disputed lands.

Myr was distracted in preparing to fend off the lesser khalazar who frequently attacked their lands and at the same time took advantage of tyrosh's weakness.

These were the events that had provoked some confidence in the leaders of the city, as they appointed as general an idiot, who barely knows anything about the profession of leading an army, but the bastard has a lot of political power and gold because his family owns the best pleasure houses in lys where they train the best slaves in the art of love and then sell them at enormous prices to whoever can afford them.

It was not uncommon for the general appointed by the city to be incompetent, since they often turn to the city's middle officials for advice.

The problem he has produced is both an external threat and an internal problem

Recently, we have lost contact with many of the border towns, as the local garrisons stopped responding to orders and stopped sending their reports of movement from the battle front, it is obvious that a force from tyrosh had crossed over to attack us, the problem is that they were incredibly elusive and brutal

Everyone was perplexed when a small patrol returned from transporting some slaves, instead of bringing men for the mines and women for the beds of the rich, what arrived were dozens of men who had had their eyes removed and were led by the only one who was allowed to keep an eye to guide them back to us.

For months we have had this thorn, attacking our patrols, which if captured always come back in this sad form, blinded in a brutal fashion

But our brilliant general, instead of listening to my advice and that of others, found a way to gain more political power from this situation, as many of his political rivals and their sons have been sent on patrols to replace leaders of mercenary groups only to be caught in the clutches of enemies moving through our territories.

Instead of crushing whatever is out there, we have steadily sent hundreds of mercenaries with many of the city's sons of illustrious lineage to certain death, for if they refuse it does not take long to take advantage and charge them with treason and execute them.

Someone entered my tent while I was still thinking about what we could do without the collaboration of the general.

''Captain'' said one of my subordinates.

I watched the face of the man who entered my tent and see the disgusted grimaces he was making, I knew perfectly well what information he brings

''Did we lose another patro?l'', I asked the man as I stood up from my chair.

''Yes, the usual, several men blinded... The leader of the group was captured by the enemies'' said my subordinate with his head lowered

''Shit the fourth one in a month, we have lost many men... Anyone remember anything... Anything to be able to identify what we are facing'' I said a bit nervous

''Nothing, it was all very fast they, all repeat the same, all quiet until they hear a scream in a strange language and a rain of arrows and then wolves in the shape of men coming out from all sides to then devote themselves to blind the ones they captured'' said the subordinate without raising the head

It hurt my head to hear again that one of our patrols had been attacked, the worst of all is that they do not kill them, they take out the eyes of the prisoners and leave them alive for all to see, it is no longer a secret that the mercenaries are nervous they are afraid of being next, besides the problem that we must do with these blinded mercenaries.

If they are mercenaries from the area we can try to return them to their families, but the problem is when they are from far away lands, we have to leave them on the street, as they have no value to the city, but they are a constant mark of what is happening outside the walls of this city that slowly fills up with more and more eyeless beggars in its streets begging

''Captain... If I may be so bold, there are rumors of desertion... You must do something before the mercenaries prefer to take their things and leave, no amount of gold is worth it in exchange for losing their eyes in combat'' said the very worried soldier

''I know... I'm going to report this to the general... To see if we can take this problem seriously or... Nothing'' I said leaving the tent.

As I walked out I came across something that unfortunately was becoming more and more common, a bunch of men on the ground who had no eyes, who were screaming in pain, among other things

I ignored them and headed for the city and dared the walls and headed for the mansion where the administration and direction of the war was being carried out.

The city had lost some of its prosperity because what hunts outside the walls is not content with just killing mercenaries but also the merchants who were under the protection of lys therefore many merchants have lost everything and you can notice it in the streets, as there are many businesses that has closed due to the shortage of some raw materials that are necessary for their work.

But for the most part everything remained normal, as much of the trade was maritime and the oldest craftsmen in the city have not even been aware that something is hunting everything that moves outside the city walls.

I quickly arrived at the mansion where the general was staying and prepared to give him the report.

When I was given the authorization to enter I found that there was a festive atmosphere, the general was celebrating something, as he was enjoying himself with many of his slaves, drinking wine from the breasts of the slaves.

''Cousin'' I said looking at the man who was concentrating on groping his slaves.

His purple eyes focused on me and his smile seemed to fade a little bit

''Ah captain... I remind you that I am your general... Let us maintain military respect'' said the general with an air of superiority.

'Cocky son of a bitch'

''Of course general, I come to report that again...'''I tried to give my report, but he ordered me to stop with a sign of his hand

''I know... You don't need to report everything to me... That's why I'm celebrating... Three political enemies of my family died in one blow or ended up being captured by those mercenaries'' said the general while he passed his hands on some of his new slaves.

''You must stop doing that, you are putting our position in the area at stake because of your political tinkering, we have lost many men who could have died defending us from tyrosh or Myr's attacks, there is a huge unrest from our men... They talk about desertion'' I said somewhat annoyed but keeping formality.

''I am strengthening my position in the politics of Lys, several people who would be rivals in the future are no longer so... Besides, unlike you, I have been able to discover what we are facing'' said the general with a mocking smile.

''What?...how, no one has come back alive or with eyes, no one who has been unlucky enough to be targeted by what lurks outside has come back how do you know?'', I said surprised

''Spies, I got information from tyrosh, I know who they are, but tell me captain in your long and extensive knowledge what do you think we are up against'' said the general with a smile.

''From what the reports say, Dothraki, probably, much use of arrows and they speak a language that no one understands'' I answered confidently.

Seeing the arrogant smile on his face I realized I was wrong.

''You are very wrong... They are knights from Westeros, more precisely from those Prussians, a group of upstarts, who settled in the ashes of the surviving Valyrians who joined that barbaric place, as I was told a group of exiles due to internal political conflicts among the Prussians, apparently those who are here lost and now bother us'' said the general while signaling to be served more wine.

''It does not match the information we have...you said it yourself, they are knights, knights do not fight with bow and arrow, they see the use of the bow simply for hunting and nothing more, all those who suffered at their hands indicate that a rain of arrows showered them and later men with wolf skins came out of the tall weeds, very different from the cavalry tactics used by the Westerosi'' I said to the general who did not appreciate having interest in my words.

''The spies were clear, it's them and it's about time we hunt them down once and for all before the city considers that so much loss of illustrious sons of the city could be considered my negligence, so you will take two thousand men and march north and establish a camp in the city of the area, and send scouts until you find those idiots and then you will inform me and I will march and slaughter those Westerosi scum'' said the general pointing to the exit of his room and then he returned to concentrate on his slaves.

I was about to leave when I was given further instructions

''By the way a wealthy friend of the magisters wants to visit the temple of R'hllor in Myr it seems he is on a pilgrimage and does not want to risk falling prey to pirates, so he will travel overland take him to the border with Myr and he and his entourage will continue on their own... Consider him extra men to take for your trip so your dothraki will not show up'' said the general with a big grin

I left the general's room to carry out his orders, quickly organized my men and prepared everything that was necessary for our journey.

The city that we had as our destination was not big, about three thousand inhabitants, but it had a wooden palisade that protected it from the attacks of smaller forces.

The friend of the magisters was a group of red priests who traveled to Myr, carrying slaves for their temples, but there was also an armed retinue to protect them, which added more men for the security of the trip.

The next day our journey began, taking advantage of our numbers, I kept scouting teams to keep us informed at all times of the forces around us.

But a few hours into the journey we came across more gifts from the knights of westeros, there were several dozen trees with people hung on them.

In other places we found people who were nailed to a piece of wood, a quite usual punishment for slaves.

Sights like these were on the roads, apparently the situation is more critical than it was reported, as they do not spare anyone.

This had the men nervous, but what began to worry even me was when the red priests in the camp began to see their visions in the fire foretelling a dark fate.

We redoubled our scouting force and checked every place where there might be an ambush, but found only the men who were captured by the Westerosi.

The city seemed to be near, but the scouts had given me some terrible news

Parts of the wooden wall that the city had was burned to ashes and the town seemed empty.

I gave orders to prepare the camp, as it was the safest place to camp in the surrounding area.

Several houses had been burned, the ones that survived better were the stone ones on the main road, I tried to get to the governor's property that although it was obvious that it had been looted was almost intact.

I noticed almost instantly that there was a man in a white robe drinking something on the stairs leading up to the property.

''Who are you?'' I asked the man.

The man only reacted by showing a face of displeasure.

''What happened in the city?'' I asked again as I ordered my men to surround him.

''Enslaved, some hanged, some crucified'' replied the man in perfect high Valyrian, which stood up showing that the guy was tall and that underneath the habit he had a plate armor and a great sword.

''I suppose you had something to do with it? Arrest him I want to get information'' I asked the man and then gave orders to my men.

Three of my bodyguards got off their horse and tried to capture him.

I felt some fear when his eyes full of fury looked at me and then he unsheathed his sword showing a Valyrian steel sword.
