Shea, who had been watching him intently, spoke up. "You don't always have to fight, Allen," she said softly. "Not with us. Let us pamper you, let us take care of you."

Allen felt a lump form in his throat, a wave of emotion threatening to overwhelm him. He knew this. Shea had said to him before. Still… He wasn't used to this—to the idea of being cared for, of being on the receiving end of affection. But now, here he was, surrounded by the seven women who had slowly but surely broken down the walls he had built around himself. There was a familiar fear stirred inside of him. Something that always came to him every time he tried to open up or let his guard down. It was his instinct and he didn't know how to turn it off.
