Chapter 4: Messed up Family

It's been a month since Alex arrived in this world. During this past month, he learned many new things about this new world.

It is not enough for Alex to understand how the world functions to simply have the memories of the last eight years. So, once he had partially recovered, he went to the library to look up the information he required at the time.

And thanks to what he had read, Alex can now be confident that his theory about the world was largely accurate.

But there are some differences, that is—in the game only important characters have background stories or more like only their power and ability were explained.

Alex is therefore in a blind predicament since, other from these people, he is unaware of any other supporting characters' abilities or even backgrounds.

Even the memory he had was not very helpful because it just provided him with a rudimentary understanding of what was happening. Alexander was only eight years old, so it's not his fault that he didn't know more.

And another thing he learned was the power structure of the Flameborn Family.

Just like in the game, Flameborn Family was one of the Duke family, who ruled the southern part of the Evergreen Empire.

Lucas Flameborn, the current head of the family, took the reins of power around 15 years ago. He is a master of flame magic and has established a reputation for himself across the empire. He was a father of four.

Alex and Sylvie are Lucas's children from his first marriage, Laura Flameborn, who come from a prestigious Marquess family of the north—Greenwood family.

But Laura Flameborn was discovered dead in a wilderness owing to an unlucky event. Since the death was not natural in many respects, the Flameborn and Greenwood families both made an effort to identify the perpetrator, but none of them was successful in doing so. Leaving the case unresolved as a result.

After Laura's death, Lisa Flameborn, Lucas's second wife comes into power. She also gave birth to two children—Alex's two steps–siblings. And she is the youngest daughter of the Eastern Duke family Skyfall.

The sudden rise of Lisa naturally caused suspicion from Laura's family but because of lack of evidence, they can't do anything.

And the injury on Alex's head was because of Lisa's eldest son's beating, which caused the old Alex to die and be replaced by the new Alex.

In this world, the only ones who truly cared about Alex are Adele and his elder sister, Sylvie. Which Alex is truly grateful for.

Normally, it should be Lisa, Who should be the first wife of Lucas. Even if she is the youngest daughter of Skyfall, she is still a member of Duke.

So based on hierarchy Lisa should be the first wife, while Laura should be the second wife. But that didn't happen because of the promise that the previous head of Flameborn gave to the Marquess.

And because the Greenwood family is one of the prestigious families from the north, as well as they had connections from the Duke of North. So Lisa couldn't do anything about the situation she was in.

Lisa has a strong dislike towards Laura as a result of this. Her hatred should have been subdued in the wake of Laura's passing, but it instead turned onto Alex and Sylvie.

Because both Sylvie and Alex are children of Laura, who is the first wife of Lucas, They both have an advantage in inheriting the Flameborn family.

So, Lisa and her Children often bully Alex—because Sylvie is the firstborn and also shows her immense talent in magic control and literature. Lisa can't carelessly deal with Sylvie—due to her being the first in the line for inheritance and being the prodigy of Flameborn, if something happens to her it will cost the family's reputation.

So all their hatred is focused on Alexander, who doesn't have anything special and is actually a naïve fool. Often when his step-siblings bully him, Adele is the one who stopped them.

And Lucas, who is the father of Alex and Sylvie didn't do anything about this as he turned a blind eye to this. Thus the bullying increased over time.

Learning all this Alex only had one thought—He was really reborn in a messed up family.
