Chapter 592: The Correct Way to Start the Game?

There's a misunderstanding here.

In Terraria, NPCs are a crucial part, entirely different from the NPCs in "My World", who are merely tools and productivity elements.

Sometimes, incredibly powerful or magical items are sold in NPC shops.

For example, a glowing mining hat, powerful bomb, glow sticks for underground exploration, healing potion, various consumables like throwing and arrow items, etc.

As the game progresses, more potent weapons, better equipment, and handy items would be available for sale.

One can say that NPCs are an essential part of the entire Terraria gaming system.

For this reason, different NPCs have different conditions to move in. For instance, a merchant requires you to have more than 50 silver coins, a demolitionist requires you to have a bomb, and a nurse requires you to have used a life crystal, and so on.
