Chapter 28: Uphill

Grant’s perspective:

I lead the way uphill, in and out of the maze of woody trails paved by years of old memories and good times. The guiding sun’s warm blaze and the joyful foundation I know it will bring to this morning nearly keeps my mind distracted from the revelation of yesterday’s betrayal.

Soon, Bram and I will have to have a long talk. What was he thinking? Why would go to Vin? Why wouldn’t he come to me first? He should have come to me. He should have spoken to me. If I were any other Alpha, he’d already be dead. If he wasn’t my brother, I’d have taken his door down in the middle of the night and ripped him apart. If I didn’t love that a**hole so much I’d march back to The Den and kick his a** right now. D*mn him. Why—

“Grant, you okay?” Austin asks from beside me.

I nod and look back to the smiling girls behind us. “I’m good.”

Austin knows I’m lying. We’ve been together too long for him to think I’m “good” with the news I received last night.
