Chapter 175: It’s Done

The doorbell rang just as I finished getting dressed, and I almost skipped toward the intercom like a little girl. Katie had called earlier to tell me that she had good news but wanted to come over to talk about it.

I didn’t know if she didn’t want to talk it over on the phone because she was scared I could record it, which I did, because I had all my calls recorded, or because she genuinely just wanted to share the good news in person. It didn’t matter, really.

What mattered was that our plan seemed to be perfectly on course.

I buzzed her up, and she greeted me with two kisses at the door.

“Guess what?!” she said in a high, annoying voice almost like a squeal.

“Just tell me!” I replied, trying to mimic her glee.

“It’s done!” she cried out, swinging her arms up and down as if in a sign of victory.

“What’s done? Give me all the details.”
