The light came on suddenly and Sage recoiled back, holding her hand up to cover her eyes. She took a moment to let her eyes adjust, blinking quickly. There were several candles that cast light, chasing away the darkness.
Sage could see she was in a cave, the walls gray and cold. Opposite her sat a gated wall like a prison cell. Her space wasn’t very big which explained why she ran into dead ends in the dark. She peered forward, searching for her friend.
Her chest tightened when she saw Nikolas holding a candle by the prison cell wall, watching her through the bars. Sage stood, stepping forward toward him.
“Nik, what is this?” she asked him. “What did you do to my magic?”
“Don’t worry, your magic will return gradually. Although, it won’t do you any good,” Nikolas smiled a crooked smile. His eyes were that raging red that sent shivers down her spine.
“Why am I here?” she said through her teeth.
