-LEENA-
“Oh no, really, I can’t!” I shout over the music, clenching Alec’s hand like a lifeline. He looks at me with amusement, a teasing smile on his face.
“Can’t dance?” he quips, tugging me to a stand next to the table even as I try to remain seated.
“Don’t worry, Leena. We’ll teach you!” Inge says as Al pulls her to the dance floor, already setting her into a graceful twirl that makes me feel nauseous with anxiety.
“Alec,” I hiss, tugging hard at his hold on me as he ushers me towards the dancing couple, “I can’t dance.”
“Of course, you can, Lee. It just takes practice.”
“No!” I pull my hand from his grip, and he finally stops walking, looking at me with a tinge of concern, “I really can’t. Witches don’t dance, Alec.”
“What do you mean?” He looks genuinely confused, “I’ve seen you dance alone plenty of times.”
