Madison had enough of his attitude, she saw how the women who never liked her looked at her; with glee and joy like the thought of her being miserable gave them pleasure.

He had gone back on his word; he had made her the derision of everyone by flaunting his mistress in her face without considering her feelings.

Maybe he did it intentionally to get back at her; after all he was vexed yesterday when he remembered her attempt to run away from their wedding.
