The trembling of Evelyn's shoulders only increased as she laid her head on his chest and it made him feel worse.
"Sshh…I was too rude. Forgive me, Evelyn. I shouldn't have talked to you like that."
Evelyn didn't say anything in response. She didn't even let Regan see her face when he tried to look at her to wipe her tears.
So Regan could only let her cry as he patted her back and whispered in her ears how sorry he was.
When Evelyn's trembling ceased finally, he held her shoulders trying to pull her away slightly. Evelyn let him but the next moment, she turned away from him. He could see from her movement that she was wiping her face with the handkerchief she carried in her sleeve.
But it hurt Regan that she didn't feel comfortable enough to show him her tears. It was not like in the past.
Was it because of what he said?
