Olivia POV
Lynn kept pacing in the living room, making me nervous with her nervous energy. Finally, after a few more minutes of it, I broke.
“Would you please sit down!?”
Lynn dropped into a nearby seat like a well-trained dog. There was a surprising amount of authority in my voice.
“Sorry,” Lynn said, meekly.
“No, I’m sorry. You’re just worried about your son. I really do understand that. I have three kids of my own, two boys and a girl.”
“Oh, what ages are they?” Lynn asked.
“Hope is still a baby, Ken is seven and Kevin is ten.”
“That’s interesting, I think Ellis has a half-brother named Kevin. He’s technically Carl’s uncle, despite being way younger.”
“That’s him,” I said.
“Oh!”
“We figured he would be better with us.”
“I certainly can’t argue with that,” Lynn said.
It was quick, but an unspoken understanding passed between us. At that moment, we were both just mothers, who worried about our kids.
