Chapter 91 - The second war

Just as Indra was about to continue, the voice of one of the warriors made her reconsider her choice before the situation calms down.

"Don't come any closer!"

As soon as those words came out of the warrior's mouth, Lexa and Clarke turned around and looked over to see what was happening. Though Clarke didn't waste too much time waiting for whoever was approaching them to talk as she had to save Indra before she bleeds out.

Meanwhile, Lexa nodded at the wounded woman before she made her way toward the commotion only to hear the familiar voice of her general and friend.

"As I said before, move or I swear make your life a living hell. We have something important to discuss with the commander."

"I'm sorry, general, but until the commander orders me so, I will not move from this place or let you approach her, especially with one of them by your side!"

"Don't bother with the man, Anya. He's just doing his job. Besides, she's already here."

As soon as she heard my words, Anya looked over and saw Lexa watching us with a rather complicated look on her face. The poor commander did not know what to do in a situation like this, despite her years of experience dealing with various tribes. Not only did the sky people betray them, but also, Anya, her friend brought Leon, the boy that almost every grounder sees as the champion of the Sky people to the place where the massacre happened.

"Stand down. If either one of them were a threat, we would have known, especially if he would have attacked ."

With permission from their commander, the warriors let us walk past them. Not knowing what to do, I simply followed behind Anya and Lexa while looking at what Pike and Bellamy had done to these innocent people. No matter how much you hate someone there's no reason to attack the innocents since more than once had history taught us that the ones who walk on this path are eventually defeated.

Soon we reached the place where Clarke was working on Indra's words, but even after she saw us, Clarke only gave us a nod before resuming her focus on the more important task. Indra didn't know if she could trust Leon or Anya, but a simple nod from her commander, made the wounded woman consider the possibility that maybe not all of the sky people were enemies.

"Sorry to ask this, but how did you even survive, Indra? I don't doubt your experience, but let's be honest here, a bullet would kill you faster than you could cut the man who fired it."

"Bellamy," Indra answered slightly grunting in pain as Clarke stopped for a second before quickly asking the woman in a panicked manner.

"Bellamy? Bellamy was with them?"

"He wanted to spare the wounded, but Pike wouldn't listen. I don't know how, but he managed to convince Pike to let me live, so I could deliver a message."

"What message?"

Clarke could only stare at the woman in disbelief not knowing how her friend could become like that. Yes, they did kill hundreds of grounders and mountain men, but what he wasn't the same thing as before… Then again, Clarke and Bellamy have been separated for over three months now and from what Indra seemed to say, neither Pike nor Bellamy hesitated to open fire on those people.

"Yes, Heda. The sky people reject the coalition. From today onwards this land is theirs and any invaders would be met with overwhelming fire."

"Lexa, it's worse than that."

For a moment, I swear I saw Indra throwing me death stares as I dared to call her commander by her name, but I ignored her waiting for Lexa to turn and look at me before I continue elaborating.

"Why do you say that, Leon? No, what made you come here, rather than stay in your camp?"

"Pike, he became the chancellor after my people found out what he had done here. Before you start putting the blame on all of the people of Arkadia, I have to ask nicely to remember that your people attacked us since the first day we landed here. Many had lost their loved ones in the hands of the coalition before Marcus managed to earn a place for us as part of the coalition."

"That still doesn't forgive Pike for what he had done."

" I don't recall saying that he was to be forgiven, didn't I? However, whether I like it or not, people will die if both sides go into an open conflict."

"That's what war does. Nevertheless, no matter what I think or feel, the only answer the coalition would give is war."

Lexa then ordered one of the warriors to come to her before she marked the begging of Pike's war.

"Send riders to all tribes. I call upon the armies of the Twelve Clans. In a day, we lay waste to Arkadia and everyone within its walls!"

I could only let out a sigh, knowing damn well, what would happen once the coalition brings its entire army here. A long and bloody siege that would eventually lead to a pyrrhic victory for the Coalition. While I have some faint in the people of Arkadia, I know that sooner or later, those bullets will run out, and when that happens, the coalition will have the advantage. Besides, Arkadia has what, four, five hundred people in total while the coalition alone could muster at least five times that many warriors.

Clarke tried to ask Lexa for a chance to make things better between Arkadia and the coalition, but Lexa wouldn't let her dear Wanheda leave her side, especially in times of war. She did look over at me for a second before she shook her head, most likely knowing that making me a prisoner would be a bad idea, considering how easily I almost escape last time.

"Wait. Raven told me about something when we were inside the mountain. There's should be another way."

"What have you in mind, Leon?"

"Wait for a second Clarke. Indra, I need you to signal Kane. Let him come out here and explain himself. All of us know that this was not done under his command. Heck, he probably didn't even know about this until after it happened."

Suddenly, as if a light bulb appeared in her head, Anya realized what I was doing.

"We won't go to Arkadia. We let Kane come to us."

"We have a winner. While I don't exactly if it's true or not, Kane should be the only one who knows about this signal."

Hearing my words, Lexa took a few seconds to weigh the pros and cons before she made her decision, and when she saw Clarke's eyes, she knew that there wasn't a choice to be made. She would give them the benefit of the doubt, as she always had. Indra watched as Lexa gave her a slight nod, a go-ahead. Indra had no choice but to oblige.

Seeing this I could only relax slightly knowing that at least, Clarke's love for Lexa gained us a precious chance to prove that we weren't the bad guys here.
