"Sorry but we won't fall for that. I think the current situation hasn't sunk in your thick skull yet."
She only rolled her eyes and remained silent once again.
"Yeonjun, it's time for us to go back to the city. Tell the others to report back to the station. We'll bring her in for further questioning."
"As expected. I knew there's no way you're getting played by a stranger." Yeonjun playfully saluted at me before leaving to inform our partners.
"You're gonna regret this." She simply said. It sounded like a threat so I had to call for backup to ensure we'll be able to face whatever's coming and break her confidence yet she wasn't even fazed.
I escorted her into the car we borrowed from the local station and promised to return it myself as soon as we successfully transported our suspect.
The sky was clear and due to the nature of the people living in the area, the roads are wide open for us. It was a smooth ride until we arrived to the highways where a minimal traffic can be seen.
Fortunately it was only for a couple of minutes due to the ongoing road work. We passed it without trouble and approached the junction where the capital is connected faster than anticipated.
The huge digital sign reported an accident by the bridge so we have no other choice but to slow down a notch and turn left to use the smaller bridge a few kilometers away from the most convenient route.
We entered the narrow two lane dam in the middle of the rice fields and a wide river so the asphalt road almost has no lighting to assist the driver other than the police car's headlights.
It's an advantage for us since we can clearly see any approaching vehicle if we ever end up in an encounter but it'll be hard to maneuver around if there's a need to escape.
"Are we there yet?" The girl sitting between Yeonjun and I gestured for me to scratch her back. I just turned a blind eye since it could be a trap but Yeonjun felt the need to tease her again.
"That's gonna be the torture you truly deserve for being a pain in our necks."
She tried to elbow him but I managed to stop her, however, something hit the tire and the blast startled our driver. Thankfully he stepped over the brake in time or else the car would've fallen into the river along with us.
"What just happened?" I asked worriedly.
"Sorry, I think I may have hit something." The driver stepped out to inspect the front tires. I tried to look around for anything suspicious but my bad eyesight made it hard to see from the tinted windows.
A sudden yelp followed by a splashing sound was all we heard so Yeonjun and the other officer carefully went outside to check on him.
"Are you alright?!" The other officer yelled but there was no response. "Lucky the river is quite shallow, however, that could also mean he must've hit the rocks below."
"Fuck that's a bit steep. Is there a rope here somewhere?" He asked as he rummaged the trunk.
"Why don't you join the pool party?" Cass suggested then leaned her head against the car's window on the right side.
"And leave you alone so you could escape?"
"Precisely."
"I'm afraid that'll never gonna happen." I said as I stared at the rope tied all over her body. I highly doubt there's anything else useful at the back so I figured I have no other choice but to take it off and cuff her ankles in return. "Here."
"Thanks." Yeonjun ducked and reached for the rope I while I keep an eye over her. "I just hope it's long enough to reach the riverbed. Please call the station to report our location while I wrap this at the bumper-"
"No need."
A male voice coming from behind the car demanded and I'm sure as hell it's not one of us. I was about to grab the handgun tied on my vest when Cass quickly sat over my lap and pinned me at my position.
"Damn, what took you so long?"
