chapter 49 Girl, don't be afraid

Wang Yan was breezing through her daily chores unaware of the danger that had arrived at her doorstep. She was feeding the pheasants by throwing some rice grains for their meal. She had been doing the same every day after they had been brought back by Wu Ming from the Demon World all the while unaware of the true nature of those pheasants. After all they were all Phoenixes, who were considered legendary beasts even in the Demon World, and yet Wang Yan had been treating them like poultry.

She had been so focused on feeding the cute pheasants that she didn't even notice the heavy auras which were heading her way.

As soon as she did find out about the Demonic Beasts heading towards her, she was scared out of her wits. It was like she was glued to where she was standing, like she was paralyzed.

Although she had made improvements with her cultivation with the help of all the precious cultivation resources and Zhang Jian's personal cultivation technique, she was still not a match against some of the Demonic cultivators who were there to take her down.

She knew that unless the Demonic cultivators had been invited for some party that she didn't know about, they were definitely here for the Purple Sapphire.

After thinking for a bit, she calmed down a lot. She knew that no matter how many of them came, it was no use against Zhang Jian, so her heart was at ease.

Before she could take a breath in relief, Cerberus came running out along with the Black Phoenix King beside it. Before she could urge them both to go inside, an old voice spoke inside her head.

"Girl, don't be afraid. We won't let them hurt you."

Wang Yan who had thought of them as ordinary animals was finally aware of how wrong she had been about them.

It dawned on her at that moment that the old voice that had warned her of not using her cultivation when she had come to the hut had been none other than Cerberus, the little yellow dog that it had thought to be very cute at that time.

Not only the dog, even the pheasants that Wu Ming had brought back looked ready to fight and their auras were so intimidating that Wang Yan felt that it was hard to breathe for her.

Ge Kai had been celebrating earlier when he had found that Wang Yan was alone outside trying to feed grain to poultry. As she was his target to begin with, he had thought that the task was going to be a walk in the park.

The thought had just appeared in his mind when several powerful beasts came out of the hut and released their auras. Ge Kai was devastated to find that not only was there Cerberus but also other masters along with him who were Ascension Stage experts.

His Intel had been missing any information about the masters other than Cerberus. There should have been no such individuals in the hut other than Cerberus according to his information.

Since the fight was sure to cause a ruckus, therefore Ge Kai had decided to take some precautions. He erected a spatial boundary around the perimeter that restricted any noise or auras from being heard or sensed outside. So, there was no way for someone outside the perimeter to find out about the battle at the hut.

Being blocked by Cerberus, Black Phoenix King and its vassals annoyed Ge Kai to no end. What he had thought to be a piece of cake had turned out to be an ordeal that he could not get through.

Wu Ming who had been cultivating peacefully in his hut until then sensed the auras as well and ran outside to see what was going on.

Just when Ge Kai had thought that the force in front of him was the full extent of the strength that Zhang Jian had collected over the period of time, Wu Ming came out of his hut to join the blockade in front of him.

Ge Kai was not as such afraid of Wu Ming, but the golden dagger that he had been holding in his hand was giving Ge Kai a bad feeling. This dagger had been the weapon that Wu Ming had been able to refine from the fishbone of the Black Fish King.

Ge Kai was cautious of three individuals especially in the blockade in front of him; Cerberus, Black Phoenix King and Wu Ming with the golden dagger in his hand.

When the auras of all the masters had been released to the extreme, Wang Yan was dumbfounded to know that all of these beasts were thousands of times stronger than her.

World-Serpent wanted to test the intentions of the obstacles in front of them. For that purpose, it called out in a voice that was both intimidating and fierce at the same time.

"It would be in your favor if you stay out of this. This is between us and that girl only. Hand her over and we might let you all go; otherwise you are going to die a horrible death."

What the World-Serpent did not know was that the most important person in the hut was Wang Yan since she was their mistress. If Zhang Jian found out that they had given her away to save their own skin, their lives would definitely be forfeit.

What the World-Serpent had told them about wasn't even an option. All of them sneered at the World-Serpent's ignorance. It hadn't even found out what the status of their target in the household actually was.

After listening to what the World-Serpent had said to them, Wang Yan got a little nervous since she didn't know what the others thought of her. Before she could get carried away with her imaginations; Cerberus spoke to her mentally.

"Girl, hide inside the hut and leave everything else to us. You don't need to worry about anything."

As soon as Wang Yan left the scene, both the opposing sides rammed into each other like two fierce and maddened bulls locking horns with each other.

Most of the beasts that Ge Kai had brought along were weaker than even the vassals of the Black Phoenix King. They were nothing more than cannon fodder in front of the vassals and most of them were burnt to a crisp in a matter of seconds.

Ge Kai knew that the situation was anything but favorable for their side in case of a long drawn out battle. Currently, he was busy fighting Cerberus who had all these crazy attack angles and weird sound wave techniques. He had his hands full taking it on and there were still two more experts around who were practically conducting a slaughter of the low level demonic beasts.

World-Serpent who had previously been guiding the movement attack of the lower level demons, decided that handling the Black Phoenix King was rather necessary since the low level demons were bound to be cannon fodder anyway.

World-Serpent rushed towards the giant ball of flames that had been slowly roasting all the demonic beasts around it in a huge diameter. It swung its tail with a whoosh and cut through the flames with its scaled tail. The eternal flames of the Black Phoenix King were parted in the middle and soundlessly went past its tail leaving a huge gash in the middle of the burning region.

It was not that the World-Serpent was stronger than the Black Phoenix King. The only reason that it had been able to handle the flames of the Phoenix King was because of the deliberately lowered intensity of the flames. Black Phoenix hadn't wanted to burn the place down around the house; therefore, it hadn't released its strongest flames yet. Another reason was that the enemies that it had yet faced against were not strong enough to draw out its strongest eternal flames.
