Immediately after the disc reached her ear, Aayla heard a peculiar voice begin to speak in a strange accent, "I am zygerian prince. I call to ask for you credit card information."
"Is that so?" Aayla responded, her tone sounding distinctly unimpressed.
Refusing to drop the facade the voice continued, "Yes. Plz send Noods."
Now that one made the corners of her mouth curl, "I will consider it. Only if you tell me the real reason you called."
A throat clearing cough was heard from the other line and the voice returned to its usual hoarse and grizzly base state, Lycan replied, "Is that all it takes to get nudes off you?"
"Only for you of course." Aayla playfully teased.
Ever since…everything began between us. Romantically speaking. I've become more comfortable in my own skin. His impure comments and jabs used to get the better of me, nowadays I feel comfortable enough to return a few 'zingers' of my own.
That last one was good…right?
A short silence was generated, I could sense Lycan was hesitant to tell me something. From our time together I've learned that no manner of urging could force him to say something, therefore I idly fiddled with my glass while patiently waiting for him to get his words in order.
"Right-o then." Lycan finally spoke, "How much do you know about the clones?"
Clones? I wondered. Shrugging my shoulders even though he couldn't see I replied, "The same as you. Everyone has been told the same information."
Bar the younglings and the other service core's but that's different.
"You know how we were told that Sifo-dyas put in the order for the clone army, yeah?"
"Of course." I answered, but soon added "Surely you never called just to give me a debrief on what I already knew."
"'Course not, I'm getting to that. It's just…what I'm about to tell you is a ball hair off insanity, and I want to get all the facts laid out first."
"Go on." I spoke, sitting more upright than before.
"Ended up looking into Sifo-dyas and found out he'd been going on about a force vision before he fell off the face of the galaxy." Lycan noted before getting to some lesser known points, "Something along the lines of a planet or multiple planets up in flames? Either way the man knew something was coming, and had no qualms making an effort to combat the impending problem."
Had Sifo-dyas sensed the coming of the clone wars? Or was it something else entirely.
"And before all else he was staunchly loyal to the republic. Which means he'd obviously want some assurance that the army he was busy with wasn't used against him. You get me?"
"Understandable." My reply was short and to the point. Allowing him to carry on without delay.
"...pull the holo up for a sec." He asked.
My holodisc was moved from ear to table in a moment, before a quick touch of a button caused the blue flickers to form up into a miniature version of my disciple.
He was sitting on one of the star cruisers' surgery tables, and between his large fingers was a tiny microscope slide. He waved it in front of the camera.
"This little thing here, this was supposed to be the insurance." From the distance i could barely make out what I was looking at. Some slice of muscle maybe, it sort of looked like a nerve ending.
"I've sent you over the file on this thing. Encrypted. Heavily" He stated before slipping it back inside a sealed container. "Not much to go on so far with what I've got on hand, but from what I've gleaned, it's some kind of inhibitor chip."
"Inhibitor chip?" I mulled over a thought, "Like the behavioural modification programming in droids?"
"Very similar to be honest. Difference being these aren't always active." Lycan sighed and scratched at his crown of keratin as he picked his words carefully "Think of the clones as sleeper agents, they'll act perfectly normal until they get certain commands. Then the chip kicks in, overwriting their thoughts and actions forcing them to carry out the orders."
"That's not even the worst of it." Lycan gravely said, "Sifo-dias died before he could ask to put inhibitor chips in. Which means someone else requested the Kaminoans to do it. Someone we don't know."
I locked eyes with him through the holograph and we merely stayed like that for a while. The right words weren't coming to my mouth, and my brain was still coming to terms with the colossal conspiracy.
"Aayla." He finally asked.
"It's a lot to take in." I answered truthfully. Quite honestly, I wasn't sure what to do with this information.
Who would I take it to? The council? The senate? Both?
"Whatever you're about to do. Leave it for later." Lycan snapped me back to the discussion at hand. "You need to get the inhibitor chips out of your clones first and foremost. Without the chips the clones won't be a liability."
"How can I do that without questions being asked? I'm in Coruscant, not floating around in hyperspace like you."
"Make something up? Come up with some excuses?" Lycan said before assuring her, "Listen Aayla, you don't need to do it all at once. Take it slow, and whatever you do don't bring attention to what you're doing. Better off playing it safe until we know who's behind this."
Flicking at my nails I asked, "...I will try."
"Do or do not. There is no try." Lycan sagely nodded.
Despite the seriousness, I found myself smiling at the short spokes. It was clearly his intention if that smirk was anything to go by.
