Chapter 47 - Finny the Shark

--[ Author Note ]--

I'm finally back to writing after months of grueling school life.

However, I can't promise daily uploads because school is still a thing for me, and the teachers can't stop themselves from giving me useless assignments.

That's all for now. If you have some questions or suggestions just message me on Discord.

Also, do tell if anyone is down to read the latest chapters and tell me how it felt because I actually need someone to read the drafts

"Who wants to dive with us?" Kenjiki glanced over at everyone.

"Do you have diving equipment here?" Mina was amazed, not expecting something like that to be available here.

Everyone was also taken aback, but then again for someone who was as rich as him, something like a few diving equipment weren't too outrageous to be readily available somewhere in his huge yacht.

"There's some on the diving bay." Nagant chimed in as the girls' watch rang at the same time. "Go get your watch and look for anything you want to do with the guide I gave you guys."

Even if she didn't tell them to do so, the girls would do the same as it was the first time their watch let out any kind of noise unless someone called them using other watches.

Mina, being the enthusiastic girl that she was, instantly got hold of her watch and opened the file Nagant had given them before reading them with her friends.

"Then we'll be going first." Kenjiki shrugged it off seeing the girls were so engrossed in reading the holographic panels that had pages upon pages describing everything that's available on the yacht.

With Kyoka still in his embrace, Kenjiki opened his wing and launched himself into the air leaving the girls in the hot tub.

While the girls were caught off guard by his sudden disappearance, Kenjiki plunged himself deep into the sea while creating a small barrier over Kyoka's head to prevent direct contact with the water when they were plunging at such high speed, that even if a Half-Vampire would be affected by it.

"Are you hurt?" Kenjiki questioned as they continued to dive deeper until they finally saw the sea floor.

"Thanks to your barrier, I'm not hurt anywhere." Kyoka blurted out with her usual tired tone.

"That's good then. Do you have anything in mind?" Kenjiki asked when they finally touched the seafloor and stood looking at the dark scenery.

For the regular humans who god knows why would be this deep in the sea, their eyes wouldn't be able to see anything with the lack of light for their eyes to capture.

Fortunately for both of them, their Vampire physiology granted them a passive ability to see clearly in the dark allowing them to see the reefs and the fishes that swam around them.

"Nothing in particular." Kyoka tilted her head. "How about we look for a shark? I remember that they love blood like us."

"Weird, but okay." Kenjiki shrugged as he spread his mana which allowed him to sense everything that his mana touched due to its trait that allowed the user to 'share' sense with their mana.

In less than a second, he noticed a shark was mindlessly floating around seemingly sleeping.

Before they approached the shark, Kenjiki coated their body with his mana in a way that would prevent them from causing ripples which would alert the shark about their arrival.

Once they stood beside the shark, they noticed that the shark seemed to be a baby shark looking at its body size.

They continued to just stand there, pondering what it might be thinking considering how lifeless it looked, Kyoka reached out her hand and caressed the unsuspecting shark causing it to jolt in surprise and swim away at the speed of light.

"Who the fuck are you?" The Shark shouted as it balanced itself and glared at the culprit who touched its body.

"Can a shark talk now?" Kyoka raised her eyebrows, quite surprised by the scene in front of her.

"I guess they do." Kenjiki was also baffled. "I'm Kenjiki."

"I don't know how your name is supposed to help me, but you guys don't look like those Seafolk that just migrated upward." The Shark swam sideways as it kept on observing the two of them.

They didn't understand what Seafolk was talking about, but rather than focusing on that, they asked what it was doing alone near the sea floor.

"I was just chilling down here. I'm more inclined to ask "What's your reason to be here?" The Shark asked.

"We were just diving, looking for something to do and she wanted to touch a shark." Kenjiki said with the straightest face he could muster, knowing what he said was quite strange.

On the other hand, The Shark was just blinking as its brain tried everything in its power to digest the weird information he just received from the strange-shaped fish that didn't even bother to swim.

"Anyway… What kind of fish are you guys?" I've never seen one like you guys once in my life." The Shark shrugged off the shark way.

"We're Human and not fish." Kyoka answered as she crouched to the shark even closer.

"Not a fish?" The Shark couldn't wrap his head around the fact that something other than fish could breathe down here.

It's not unexpected for The Shark to think so, because he had seen a lot of animals that were not some kind of fish that would be able to breathe underwater or even swim as deep as they were currently.

But as it kept on thinking of a logical reason to support Kenjiki and Kyoka's presence this deep in the sea. Kenjiki tapped its forehead, bringing its thought back into his physical body.

"What even are you? Talking shark?" Kenjiki inquired after realizing that he had skipped this step in the conversation.

"I am a shark! What else could I be?" The Shark exclaimed as if it was common sense.

"Then is there any shark that could talk like you?" Kyoka chimed in out of curiosity.

"..." The Shark went silent for a few moments before answering her question. "No."

Now that The Shark thought about it again, none of the sharks it had met could talk the way it did much less understand the language it spoke.

"Do you even have a name?" Kyoka asked again.

"No." The Shark answered hesitantly.

"How about I name you then?" Kyoka suggested, and as the one being unnamed it agreed. "Finny! How does it sound?"

Although it felt that the name was a pun, the now Finny couldn't help but accept the new name that it had just gotten from a stranger. Which was also the first conversation he ever had with something that's not a shark.

Seeing that the name went through without much resistance, Kyoka beamed a wide smile and hugged Finny as she enthusiastically asked for Kenjiki to get them onto the yacht so that she could introduce Finny to everyone.

Kenjiki, noticing that Kyoka had shed away her previous exhausted face to a cheery one didn't bother to say anything and just fulfilled her wish and gently launched the three of them upwards.

On the way to the surface, they met an odd-looking human who was swimming around chasing everything that moved, and they swam toward them the moment they noticed Kenjiki and Kyoka.

Once they got close enough, Kyoka noticed it was Mina wearing a skintight suit that covered every inch of her body aside from her face which was covered with a regular diving helmet.

"Where have you guys been?" Mina inquired when she finally noticed something that Kyoka was holding. "Is that a shark?"

"Yes! His name is Finny!" Kyoka smiled as she reached out to the confused Finny who was overwhelmed by the energies exuded by the two of them.

"Is it a male shark?" Mina asked, not knowing how to differentiate a shark's gender.

"Well, I don't know. I just assumed so because male sharks generally have a smaller body than their female counterparts." Kyoka shrugged as she herself didn't know that much about sharks.

While the two of them were immersed in their own world talking about Finny. Kenjiki who was yawning noticed someone came towards them at a quite high speed considering that they were currently underwater.

Upon closer inspection, Kenjiki recognized that the one approaching them was Asui whom he dubbed the frog girl due to her simple quirk allowing her to do anything that a frog could.

Because of that, she didn't wear any diving gear, unlike her friends who needed them to breathe underwater. Which resulted in her still wearing her green one-piece swimsuit.

"Oh, it's you guys." Asui blurted the moment she arrived in front of them.

While saying that, she also noticed something that Mina didn't bother to acknowledge, which was Kenjiki and Kyoka weren't wearing any kind of diving gear even though as far as she knew that their quirks weren't water-related.

"Can Vampires breathe underwater?"
