Chapter 63

Cam started to get up as Lou’s and another pair of hands helped her. Before she was fully on her feet, nausea gripped her and she lurched toward the toilet stall.

Lou stood by the stall door as Cam emptied her lunch into the john. She stood back as Cam came out of the stall, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. Blood was still running from her nose. She staggered to the sink and started to splash water onto her face and the back of her neck.

Just then Emerson appeared in the doorway. “What’s going on in here?”

Lou looked at Cam. “Oh, she’s just been out in the sun too long. You know how that can turn your stomach some times,” she answered before Cam could even understand the question.

“She all right?” Emerson’s question could almost be taken as concern.

“Yeh. Cold water will help.”

“I saw Lacey and her buddies coming out of here. You sure that’s all it is? Heat stroke?” Emerson had recovered from her bout of compassion.
