Ch 03

As I emptied my mind, closed my eyes, and entered a dream state with the aid of Cogitation.

In the illusory scene amidst the fog parted to reveal an old dusty room and seated in the middle on a wooden chair a very focused middle aged man crafting a very beautiful pocket watch.....

Then the scenes changed a couple of times to show a multiple people died a very sudden death, but the common thing in all of these people was that they had the same pocket watch...

Until the last scene showing my previous self playing with the watch. Then he suddenly inclined his head to lean on the desk, then he died and the watch was still on his hands at that moment.....

My first experience in dream divination left me with a very nasty headache, I guess my spirituality isn't powerful enough to use this method of divination... as the dream divination require a powerful spirituality from the user.....

I drew a very strained breath as I thought about what've seen in the dream. All those people died a sudden death and all of them owned the pocket watch for a very short period of time....

It's official that the watch is cursed with a very powerful curse, but who cursed it and why he cursed it, but more importantly how it got to our house basement.....

As I was deep thinking, I fell asleep again the stress from using this kind of divination was too much.....

I woke up to the voice of our house-elf sunny" young master wake up, master Corban is calling you in to have dinner together"

With difficulty I opened my eyes and replied with a sleepy voice, "give me a couple of minutes sunny and I will be there"

Sunny nodded and was going to pop out, but I stopped her at the last moment as I remembered something" wait sunny did father asked you what did I chose for my birthday present "

Sunny blinked twice, then shook her head " no young master, he didn't ask"

I sighed in relief " good good, sunny, go to the basement and get me anything you see first "

Sunny looked at me and hesitated. She can't go to the basement without my father's permission

I noticed this, so I added" look sunny you know that I lost the watch I chose this morning and if father knows he will punish me "

The house-elf hesitated some more, than nodded to me and apparated to get me a book on magic theory...

"thank you sunny and remember this is what I chose for my birthday present ok"

Sunny nodded, then she is gone...

I looked at the book in my hand as I marveled at my luck 'sunny really choose a very good present for me '

I got up from the bed, then washed myself in the bathroom, straightened my clothes, then left to see my supposed father.....

As I entered the dining room, I saw him sitting on a chair and reading a newspaper with moving pictures...

" good evening, father, " I greeted with every once of etiquette from Zen memories as I sat on the table..

He lifted his head from the newspaper and looked at me for a couple of seconds, then replied in a rough voice, "good evening"

And damn Corban Yaxley looked so much alike with the actor in the movies as he can be described as having hard, blunt features and an unpleasant smile. He was relatively tall, and has long, pale blond hair tied in a neat braid that hangs down to his lower back....

As for his personality, I don't know if he will be like in canon, but his canon self is just disgusting as he was described as Haughty, blunt, and domineering, Corban Yaxley was a proud, ambitious man with little patience for the feelings and the problems of others,

As I was musings, the former death eater spoke " happy birthday Marcus did you get your present from the basement"

Well, at least he remembered it right. I nodded " thank you father, and yes, I chose a book about magic theory"...

And silence fall on the dining room with the occasional sound of people eating ....

As I finished my meal it time to test this father of mine and get some information about the pocket watch

As I wiped my mouth with a napkin, I looked at him then voiced" father this morning as I was choosing my parents I remarked a very interesting pocket watch"

He stared at me with piercing look as I remarked his mouth twitching a bit then he said " that is your grandfather watch, but he owned it for very short time before his death as we later came to find that it was a cursed item so keep your distance from it "

My mouth twitched a couple of times ' why the hell did you put it on basement then ' but I faked a surprised face as I said " then why not throw it away, I almost choose it this morning to be my present"

He put a thoughtful face then use called " sunny ,sunny "

And with pop sunny was there, but she just stood there with a bowed head

" sunny take that cursed pocket watch and dump it in some faraway place, " Corban said without raising his head from the newspaper (I guess it very interesting newspaper)...

Sunny looked at me with surprise in those big eyes and I just nodded to her as she popped out ....

I smiled as finally closed the watch business, I took two bird with one stone ....as I finally know how it got to the basement and pulled my self from next problem .... Because if father know I touched that watch and I am still alive you can imagine what will happen....

I excused my self from the dining room to my rooms where I found the book waiting for me to read it

So many of us as we read the books or watched the movies though about the origin of magic or the theory behind it and some of us even came with different theories so you can imagine my excitement about reading this book

but There is no simple answer to the question, "what is magic?" Many theories have been developed, usually treating magic as a kind of quasi energy-matter combination that can be quantified

. We shall call these people Neo-Merlinists (NMs), in tribute to the large quantity of amateur literature in which Merlin appears to the famous wizard Harry Potter and explains magic in this way. so I simply opened the book and started reading....

Magic is quite a mystery to even the most learned witches and wizards. It behaves in different ways at different times, and it is my belief that it is impossible to pin down the true nature of magic, partly as it is so beyond the logical way in which our minds work, and partly due to the fluid nature of magic.

What we can do, however, is make models of how magic behaves, and these generally split up into three main categories: magic acting as a force, magic acting as energy, and magic acting as matter. Of course, magic is none of these things in reality,

but it helps to picture it in this way. Perhaps by understanding these different aspects of magic, we can come to have a fuller understanding of magic as a whole....

There is one other magical model that is in existence: magic as a deity. However, due to a complete lack of evidence, this theory has fallen out of favour since the days of the wizard-emperor Julius Caesar, when wands were created and wizards gained a firmer control over their magic, and the idea of it being controlled by a deity seemed less likely .....

Magic as a Force

This is possibly the analogy which comes closest to reality. Through modeling magic this way, magic is a force like the other forces of this universe (gravity, the electromagnetic force, the weak force, the strong force), governed by rules and laws. An example of such a law would be the law of Nullus Vita – the law stating that no magic can bring the dead to life.....

Magic as Energy

Another, less accurate, analogy is that of imagining magic to be a form of energy, like heat, or light, or electricity. It is true that magic does appear to act in this way from time to time, but as a whole it presents a few problems. The only real application of this model is in the casting of spells. Spells, once they have left the wizard, often act as if they are a form of energy.

They can give off sound, light, heat, electricity, and a whole variety of other effects. Under the Muggle laws of the Conservation of Mass-Energy, energy cannot be destroyed, nor made, only transferred to different forms of energy, or mass. This law works well with this model of magic, as the superfluous effects of a spell (light, sound, heat and so on) can be explained as "leakages" of magical energy into other forms.

Magic as Matter

This is the analogy which is the least accurate. Comparing magic to matter is a rather contradictory comparison, as magic has no substance. However, it is also possibly the most important model, as it deals with the very consistency of magic – what it is "made of" – and it is through understanding magic in this way that spells are created.

As I got to this part, it was already close to 3 am in the morning so I closed the book reluctantly and went to sleep.....
