CH109 (723), Truth Behind The Seal (3)

Dusknoir then continued to tell me about two more cases of "regular" Pokemon becoming deities, namely Zarude and Urshifu. Neither of these species/lines was inherently Legendary, with Zarude coming from an actual apex class species while Urshifu's line "merely" belonged to a top class species, though impressively enough it was that "mere" top class species that brought up not one but two members that managed to become deities on their own merit.

Nonetheless, Zarude was considered a Mythical in canon while Urshifu along with its prevolution Kubfu were supposedly actual Legendary Pokemon and I could honestly say that I was okay with that not being the case, though to hear that there were actual cases where one of them had managed to attain a godly status even if it was as a deity instead of a natural born god was interesting since it still validated canon to some extent.

Still, those two were deities I knew about so to say, so it was not entirely surprising to me that one of them managed to attain godhood since I had until now assumed that they were Legendaries anyway. Ironically enough, hearing that the rest of the Zarude and Urshifu were regular Pokemon was the surprising part to me. Actually, that was not even the most surprising part; According to Dusknoir, Zarude and the Urshifu line learned from the Spectrier trio's mistake and there were actually still Zarude and Urshifu/Kubfu living within the four continents, though they apparently lived in secluded areas in the center of the continents which explained why humanity/the alliance had no idea of their continued presence/existence.

Dusknoir himself only knew that due to his predecessors sharing it with him. Yes, Dusknoir confirmed that he was not the first Guardian of the Seal but rather the 75th one. He shared with us that he was not actually a local like the other Dusknoir that came to assist him but that he was originally from the Spirit World. Apparently, a 7th Stage member of the Dusknoir lineage in the Spirit World would be sent every 10.000 years to take the mantel of Seal Guardian, and the Duknoir line living within the cave system were the descendants of these Guardians.

Dusknoir himself only took on the mantel of Guardian around 3 thousand years ago shortly after advancing to the 7th Stage. He did not seem to mind admitting that his progress speed was rather slow which indicated that he knew about his less than ideal potential. He frankly said that he accepted the role of Guardian due to the rewards he was promised, along with the fact that the spectral energy density in the seal chamber was not bad even according to Spirit World standards even during regular times; Not to mention during the periods during and after the outbreak which was beneficial to his training.

When Dusknoir proudly declared that he was about to advance to the (mid) Palladium stage thanks to those conditions I could not help but wonder if that was how things were for regular Pokemon that had closed in on the limit of their potential, especially during the latter stages like the Palladium stage. I honestly had a hard time accepting that going from the (low) to (mid) Palladium stage within 3 thousand years was something to be happy about, but then again I was aware that I had become potential/progress spoiled due to the advantages that Utopia and my knowledge brought me, so I was hardly qualified to judge Dusknoir's happiness in this situation.

Actually, there was a little detail there that was rather important, namely that the seal had been set up around 743 thousand years ago since Dusknoir was the 75th Guardian and he was about 3 thousand years into his duty. Damn was that a long time ago. I seriously doubted that all human civilizations added together amounted to even a fourth of that time. Actually, that was an interesting question in itself; While the alliance would likely be unable to provide an answer to that, I could do it by browsing through my super library, and since I was rather interested in finding out for how long humans, or at least a proper human civilization has been around, I went ahead and let my second thought stream hit the books while I continued to speak with Dusknoir, who finally began to circle back to why he asked me if I knew the difference between a god and a deity.

"As I told you deities ascend to that rank and usually their ascension is accompanied by certain phenomena. These phenomena are usually related to the Pokemon's type or specialties. However since the number of ascensions is not high and most deities belong to different species, one can not know what kind of phenomena will be triggered by one's ascension. According to the words passed on from the first Guardian, one particular such phenomenon nearly caused a global catastrophe," Dusknoir said clearly purposefully stringing us along to raise our expectations, and it was definitely working.

"{Who ascended and what happened}?" Hades/Gengar broke and asked when Dusknoir's artistic break took too long. I felt Dusknoir's amusement and satisfaction at Hades' outburst, but at least he continued his narration, so I kept quiet and paid attention.

"It was the progenitor of Minior who tried to ascend, and what happened was that his ascension caused ripples in space, which actually resulted in the emergence of a tear in space. Normally tears like that are either simply impossible to pass through due to instability or if the rip is on an off-chance stable enough, lead to empty space. However, during this event the tear somehow ended up leading to a parallel universe," Dusknoir said and I had an inkling where this was going.

"Do you know what a parallel universe is?" Dusknoir asked and he almost seemed disappointed when I told him that I knew what parallel universes were. I was starting to think that Dusknoir either really enjoyed talking or he had so few chances to talk to others that he was making the most of this chance. Either way, he nodded at my words before continuing with the story.

"At first nothing happened, but at some point, Pokemon unlike any within our world came out of that tear and for some reason, they began to attack as soon as they appeared. Luckily ProgeniMinior was the closest being to the tear, so the invaders ended up attacking it instead of spreading out, which ended up being doubly fortunate because the invaders were very strong. According to what the first Guardian passed on, the handful of weird Pokemon were able to pressure the newly ascended ProgeniMinior," I could hear the awe Dusknoir felt at the idea that something could pressure/match a deity even if it was a freshly ascended one, and looking at my Pokemon, I could see the same reaction there as well.

"Thankfully, Cresselia had apparently decided to watch the ascension, and she went up to help when she witnessed the development. Other gods also noticed either the intrusion into our universe or the conflict on a divine scale. Hoopa was the first to show up, and seeing the battle as well as the occasional foreign Pokemon coming out of the tear, he used his loops to separate the combatants before using a clever trick of space to send the invaders back inside the space tear. Following that Hoopa established a temporary channel that sent any new arrivals right back to their universe," Dusknoir said and it was quite impressive to hear that Hoopa managed to suppress the situation on his own.

Honestly, it did not sound like the planet or universe had been at risk, but I could see how bad that could have gone if things had gone slightly different, so the global catastrophe bit was probably for the potential danger it posed and not for the actual damage those Pokemon caused.

"More gods appeared after that, though they did not interfere after seeing the situation under control, or at least it was under control until Hoopa suddenly began to look strained. Hoopa shared that two deity-level Pokemon showed up on the other side and began to bombard the space loop he set up. He described one as a very large black draconic draconic-looking crab abomination that was more maw than body, while the other was apparently similar to Mr.Mime with a ball head," Dusknoir shared and I was pretty sure he was describing Guzzlord and Blacephalon, which confirmed my earlier suspicion about the tear being connected to the Ultra Beast universe.

"What happened then?" I inquired, curious about how they handled the situation since I had not heard anything about Ultra Beasts before this anywhere which indicated that they did not exist in our universe, or at least on Terra.

"Hoopa's loop actually began to show signs of cracking, so the other gods told him to retract it before rushing to the other side to limit the collateral damage to that side. My predecessor passed along that he was told that the battle was devastating, but that our gods managed to push the other Pokemon back far enough to buy Hoopa enough time to close the tear after they hurried back to our side," Dusknoir narrated, and while it was very interesting to hear, I still had to wonder how all this was connected with the seal here. Did an Ultra Beast slip through and get sealed under this place?

"{What happened next?}" Hades urged Dusknoir to continue after he paused for a moment, probably to build up the tension. "Hoopa exerted himself to seal up the tear, and in the process his loop which had cracked before cracked even further, resulting in a tiny piece of it breaking off the loop. Hoopa successfully closed the tear and Lord Palkia showed up after he did that. Lord Palkia first restored Hoopa's loop with a wave of his hand before manipulating the space around the area where the tear used to be. Lord Palkia then informed the other gods that he had severed any connection our universe had with the other universe, making it impossible for those Pokemon to return," Dusknoir practically explained why there were no Ultra Beasts in the PokeVerse 6942, and why none of them could appear in the future, though the fact that Lunala and Solgaleo still existed indicated that they were native Legendaries in this universe, which was cool.

"After that, he waved his hand once again before declaring that the phenomena caused by ProgeniMinior was too dangerous so he put a seal on ProgeniMinior's species which resulted in the emergence of Minior. This way there wouldn't be a repeat of this situation even if a Minior managed to ascend. The newly ascended ProgeniMinior was left untouched and silently accepted Lord Palkia's decision, making him pretty much the sole ProgeniMinior in existence," Dusknoir sounded extremely adulatory when he mentioned Palkia's actions, and I could see where he came from.

To hear Palkia manipulate the connection between freaking universes with a simple wave of his/its hand, and then set a restriction on all members of a species with probably billions if not more members with a second wave was humbling; It also drove home how powerful Palkia as a member of the creation group was, and remembering that there were three more members in that group with Arceus being above even them reminded/showed me just how strong the bosses of this PokeVerse were.

"{Cool, I'm very happy that we don't have to worry about those things, and it was suuuper interesting, but what does that have to do with our seal? You said that the tear got sealed and I doubt Lord Hoopa or Lord Palkia would make a mistake or need to keep a seal like this}," Nyx/Umbreon asked exactly what I was thinking.

"Patience young lady. I was going to come to that," Dusknoir said amusedly. "The little piece of Hoopa's loop that broke off landed here and since Lord Palkia restored Hoopa's loop he did not bother retrieving the tiny piece that broke off. Instead,

Hoopa told his underlings to find it after returning to his home in the Spirit World, and they set out to search for it. It took them nearly three decades to do what Hoopa probably could have done in seconds if he wanted, and when they finally found it a lot of local ghosts had gathered around it creating/forming a new ecosystem. They reported the situation to Hoopa who decided against destroying the new ecosystem since habitats fitting for us were rare," Dusknoir said and I could hear his respect for Hoopa when he shared Hoopa's decision.

"Hoopa also sent one of his stronger subordinates to seal the piece to ensure that greedy individuals could not take it away before assigning the first Guardian to take care of the seal as well as the new ecosystem. It was after the 4th Guardian took over that a gate to the Spirit World started to periodically appear; It was during the time of the 10th Guardian that the Spirit World natives made their first attempt at claiming the splinter for its spectral energy, and seeing Hoopa not interfere after proclaiming that the ecosystem no longer needed the splinter others followed suit," Dusknoir finally shared the mystery behind the seal.
