CH69 (683), Searching For The One (3)

I checked out the final two Larvitar of the group as well after making sure to imprint the Rock Solid one's looks into my mind. Unfortunately, neither of the two Larvitar really stood out, so Mr.Mime and I left for the next area after thanking the Larvitar for their cooperation. We naturally also wished the Tyranitar a good day before leaving.

'Alright, we're here,' Mr.Mime declared after teleporting us over. 'This is area 2. It is roughly the same size as the one we just left and one of the four areas belonging to the Tyranitar territory. Let's hope you'll find what you're looking for in this place,' he said and I returned an "I hope so".

We then began to systematically roam area 2 and it didn't take us long to come upon our first Larvitar. This was the first time today that I saw a Larvitar roam around on its own, though I did not doubt that it was still under protection/observation by the Tyranitar and their underlings. Mr.Mime confirmed as much when he pointed out the Noctowl that was hanging out not far from Larvitar this early in the day.

I briefly watched as the Larvitar snacked on some rocks before approaching it to check it out. Larvitar briefly looked up from its meal to stare at me before choosing to ignore me to focus on something more important, the rocks in front of it. I found Larvitar's actions hilarious and I would definitely tell Munchlax and the others about this Munchlax in disguise. Seeing how Larvitar showed no reaction, I observed it as it ate, and I honestly thought I might get to see some eating-related talent or something like that.

However, his status sheet was remarkably unremarkable, even his potential was "only" green. Funnily enough, even as I left, Larvitar ignored me and continued snacking. I still thanked it for its cooperation, but it just waved me off, and I got the distinct feeling it was telling me to go away already. I guess I understood why this Larvitar was hanging out on his own.

I heard Mr.Mime laugh at the whole situation, but it all happened telepathically with his face remaining stoic. Honestly, this guy was taking this thinking but not acting on it thing to a whole new level. Nonetheless, we resumed searching for more Larvitar and we continued to find smaller as well as larger groups of Larvitar. Two of the larger groups even had open Tyranitar babysitters, and I had to say that the Tyranitar tribe as a whole seemed to really take their role seriously.

Unfortunately, none of the Larvitar I saw in any of these groups managed to truly attract my attention. There were a few Larvitar with 5-star potential among them, but none of them was good enough for me to pick them or even put them on the candidate list.

'Have there been any Larvitar that managed to attract your attention so far? If things continue like this, we'll run out of Larvitar before you find one that you like,' Mr.Mime spoke up after we left yet another Larvitar group behind. "What can I say," I began with a shrug, "I just want to make sure that I get the most promising Larvitar I can find, though there have been one or two Larvitar that roused my interest, so if we fail to find someone interesting enough that I immediately want him or her, I'll choose one of them."

'You're way too picky, but that's good for you I guess,' Mr.Mime said, and he actually shrugged this time to accentuate his words. 'Hopefully, you'll find a Larvitar that you want without us having to go through all areas,' Mr.Mime continued and I could not help but smile at that. "Well, I wouldn't hold onto that hope if I were you," I teased Mr.Mime, "I think I would like to check all Larvitar just to be sure that I did not miss out on THE ONE, you know," I said, only half joking, which Mr.Mime caught. He actually released a physical groan at my words, which I saw as a win for me.

We stumbled upon another group as we talked. I began to check out the Larvitar after greeting them and getting permission to approach them. I was quite surprised when I ended up finding another ability variant while checking the fourth Larvitar, though her potential was less impressive even if it was not bad at all.

'Species: Larvitar

Gender: Female

Type: Rock, Ground

Potential: Light Blue

Stage: Iron-stage (Mid)

(Genetic) Modifiers: Ability Variant

Abilities: Guts, Rock Head

Talents: None

Affinities: Rock, Ground'

Rock Head was not one of those really impressive abilities, but receiving no recoil damage was still useful, and in my opinion, it still beat Unnerve, so it was an overall win for Larvitar. Especially if she somehow managed to learn Head Smash in the future.

Anyway, I only knew of 4 lines/Pokemon with that ability that also belonged to the same breeding group as Tyranitar, namely Marowak, Rhydon, Aggron, and Tyrantrum. Since I very much doubted that there was a Tyrantrum around this place, that only left the other three species. Well, I said that, but the idea that there was a Tyrantrum hidden somewhere on Mt.Silver was still intriguing, even if it was incredibly improbable. Regardless, I definitely wanted to have a Tyrantrum someday in the future.

Flight of fancy aside, I was thinking that either a Rhydon or Aggron was the likely source of Larvitar's Rock Head, and of the two it was more probable for Rhydon to be a relative of Larvitar. Still, no matter how interesting the topic was to me, it did not change the fact that this Larvitar could in no way rival the Rock Solid Larvitar, at least in my opinion she couldn't, and my opinion happened to be the important one in this matter. Hence, Rock Head Larvitar failed to become a candidate even though she was a pretty good Pokemon/Larvitar.

I continued to check out the other Larvitar after that, and aside from one that had blue potential, the others were quite unremarkable all things considered. Well, if we ignored the fact that they were Larvitar since that alone was actually enough to excite most if not all trainers. Still, I was here to search for the best possible Larvitar I could find, so my search continued.

It was an hour later, while I was checking a group of Larvitar that according to Mr.Mime had to be one of the last unchecked groups in this area, that I stumbled upon another great find.

'Species: Larvitar

Gender: Male

Type: Rock, Ground

Potential: Blue

Stage: Iron-stage (Mid)

(Genetic) Modifiers: None

Abilities: Guts, Sand Veil

Talents: Mountain Eater

Affinities: Rock, Ground'

Mountain Eater, if that did not sound impressive then I did not know what did. I naturally directly checked its description to see what exactly Mountain Eater did, and I had to say that it had a pretty good effect. Mountain Eater restored Larvitar's vitality/HP whenever Larvitar ate rocks or got hit by rock-type energy. This made Larvitar immune to rock energy/moves, though he had to actively eat attacks like Rock Edge to trigger the recovery aspect of his talent. At least the immune aspect still worked on those moves as well since the moves simply broke apart upon touching his body.

Now this was what I would call a useful talent, and while I had never heard of an ability or talent like this before, it still made me remember the Pokedex entry in canon that mentioned something like a Larvitar eating a Mountain before evolving into a Pupitar, so in some ways, the talent's title and effect were quite poetic.

Anyway, I honestly liked this talent quite a bit, but I still could not decide if it made this Larvitar better than Rock Solid one or not, so I decided to have them both share the first place for now. Either another Larvitar would replace them at one point, or in case they managed to retain the first spot until the end, I would have to decide which one I wanted more at the end of my search.

Unfortunately, that particular Larvitar was not among the last two groups I checked in this area, so Mr.Mime and I moved on to the third area. By this point, more than four hours had passed since my arrival at Mt.Silver, and my usual lunchtime was around the corner. Well, there was actually more than an hour until then, but I had to choose if I should eat something on my own, or if I should prepare more to share it with others.

I ultimately decided to allow Mr.Mime and the Larvitar to get a taste of my food, so after checking five groups over the next hour, I called for a stop once we failed to find any more Larvitar 7 minutes after we left the latest group behind. Since we could not find the Larvitar, I would make them find us.

"Alright, let's stop here for a moment," I called out to Mr.Mime. "It's time for lunch, so let's eat something before we continue looking for more Larvitar." 'Sure, I don't mind,' Mr.Mime replied, before crossing his legs and levitating in the air with his eyes closed. I briefly considered asking him why he bothered sitting cross-legged if he was going to levitate anyway, but I decided to let it be. Maybe he found it more relaxing that way, who knows?

Anyway, I brought out my grill along with everything else I needed to barbecue some meat. I started the fire using coal I made myself after chopping down one of the energy-rich trees inside Utopia. Once the fire reached a proper heat, I placed some Tamato, Wiki, Rindo, Starf, and Belue Berries on it before closing the lid to capture the heat inside. I reopened it 3 minutes later to flip the berries to ensure that each side got to face the fire/coal for some time before closing it again.

Another three minutes later I checked up on the berries, and after confirming that they had reached the wanted softness, I took them off the grill and put them aside for a moment, so that I could place some of the meat I had stored for occasions like this on the grill. Once the meat was on the grill and I had closed the lid, I peeled the berries, before dicing them into little cubes/chunks. I put the chunks into a bowl before adding some olive oil, and salt in there as well.

While I was doing that I noted that the smell of the meat and the berries had already lured in some Pokemon, including a bunch of Larvitar along with their protectors. The presence of the Tyranitar sent the other Pokemon running as soon as they arrived, so only Larvitar and Tyranitar were left. I was not surprised by that since their line did not only eat rocks and soil. All members of the Tyranitar line were omnivores that also ate meat and vegetation/berries in addition to "mountains".

Jokes aside, when I saw that I had managed to lure over nearly 80 Larvitar along with 5 Tyranitar, I stopped mixing the salad and brought out my three party grills instead. That had Mr.Mime open his eyes and after taking stock of the situation, he offered to help which I accepted.

Unlike my personal grill which had less than a meter in circumference, the party grills were quite big. Each one was a meter in width and 3.5 meters in length allowing me to grill much more than my "little" grill could. I was sure that three of those along with my personal one would be enough to feed my extra guests, so I with Mr.Mime's help repeated my previous actions with the three bigger grills as well. Our actions obviously attracted the attention of our audience, and from the excitement that came from them, it was clear that they understood why I did all this.

I naturally did not forget to keep an eye on the meat that was already on the grill and I made sure to flip it on time. By the time the berries on the large grills were done, the first portion of meat was ready as well, and since I was busy right now, I offered the meat and the first salad I made to Mr.Mime who gratefully accepted my offer. Still, even while he physically ate the food Mr.Mime did not stop helping me. He used his psychic abilities to help me peel and dice the berries that were ready for the next step while he ate.
