Chapter 283: The Warrior in You

“Jackie, your father and I were talking last night.” Ann clasped her hands in front of her earnestly.

Inwardly, Jackie groaned. Nothing good ever follows those words.

“Oh?” She aimed for nonchalance as she clicked the keyboard and scanned the reservation screen for the last guests who’d checked in. They were only expecting one more couple to arrive that afternoon.

Her mother nodded. “We’d like to take the children to Niagara Falls for a week or so.” She gazed at Jackie expectantly.

Taken off-guard, Jackie frowned. “Ooo-kay,” she said uncertainly. “Why is that? Not that they wouldn’t love it, but you two just got here. And you’re only here for ten days or so.”

“You’re busy trying to get the business back up. Add to that the construction happening everywhere on the property. It’s too dangerous for Grant and Emma to play outside, especially when you can’t watch them. Grant already got hurt.”
