The whole ballroom suddenly erupted into chaos. The elite society women wanted to know more about this woman.
"Wow so beautiful!"
"She is the most alluring woman I've ever seen."
"Waahh look at that dress."
"Her skin looks so soft. Why is mine so rough?"
"She is not even fully smiling and I am already floored. What will happen if she gives us a huge smile?"
"I want to see if her voice is as lovely as her looks."
"Is she the infamous granddaughter of old master Zhang?"
"No way. That granddaughter is only a teenager. This woman looks like she's at least 20."
"But why would old master Zhang enter with her if she is not his granddaughter?"
"Don't tell me she's his bed warmer?"
"Shh... not so loud. What if she's the granddaughter? Be quiet."
"Exactly. Do you want to make a joke of yourself?"
Old master Zhang's friends tried to think if they could match her with any of their grandchildren.
"If she's really the infamous granddaughter then I can't fault old man Zhang hiding her away. If I had a granddaughter who looked like this, I would hide her away from the world too."
"Haha.. I can't believe these words are coming from your mouth old man but I guess even I would be like that."
"I should have brought my grandson here."
"Exactly, I wanted to bring my grandson as well but he wouldn't come. Such a waste."
"Isn't that RuQian?"
"Yeah. She is old master Zhang's granddaughter?"
"Woah. So she's like super rich, right?"
"Oh yeah. Didn't Wan Wan diss at RuQian and then she showed off so much when she received an invite to her birthday party?"
"Hah! So Wan Wan slapped herself in the face, didn't she?" The girls started giggling.
Wan Wan on the other hand was fuming when she heard these words, "Who knows? Maybe she is just a bed warmer. She cannot belong to a rich family like the Zhang's. Can you all not see how she is dressed? She just looks like a slut anyways. She couldn't keep her eyes off of Chang ge and now she is sticking to old master Zhang like a leech. This bitch is just a prostitute."
Only the one's standing close to Wan Wan were able to hear what she said. Her schoolmates glared at Wan Wan listening to her crude words. 'How much more jealous can a person get?' They weren't blind, they all had seen how RuQian avoided Chang Min and how it was him who followed her all the time and now they had the answer. It was because of the status RuQian held that Chang Min was after her. They were not idiots and neither were they spoiled brats to not understand what was happening around them.
Amongst the awestruck gazes of the guests, old master Zhang led RuQian onto the podium. Accordingly the orchestra stopped playing music, lights dimmed around the hall and a spotlight hit on the centre of the podium. Old master Zhang looked as handsome as he was in his youth. If he dyed his greying hair, people wouldn't be able to recognize his real age. Standing beside RuQian, he looked like he was her father.
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen. It has been a while since I've hosted any parties, so don't mind if I seem a little rusty." Everyone chuckled slightly at that. "Today I hosted this party in the honour of my dearest, one and only granddaughter who turned 16. Also I hope everyone won't crowd her too much, she is still a kid after all." The guests and old master Zhang chuckled slightly again. RuQian broke out into a sweet smile leaving everybody mesmerized. Even Wan Wan couldn't help but stare at her beautiful face under the spotlight. Old master Zhang untangled his hand from RuQian's and pointed to her. "Ladies and gentlemen, my granddaughter RuQian."
The whole room erupted into an applause at the announcement. RuQian smiled cordially first and then gave a small bow to the entire room at her introduction. The applause died down to let her speak. "Good evening ladies and gentlemen. It must've been tiresome to attend a birthday party for a 16 year old, so I hope no one bears any grudge on me." The room burst into laughter again. "I can assure you even if it's a party for a 16 year old, the food and the company would be to your taste, so I hope everyone present here can enjoy themselves." RuQian nodded slightly at the applause and stepped down the podium with her grandfather.
The applause this time was louder. RuQian had left a delightful impression with the way she spoke. She seemed like a sensible and mature woman. She was a kid who didn't seem like one. Even the sophisticated manner in which she stood or walked proved her refinement in etiquette and manners. She did not look like a girl who was celebrating her sweet 16.
RuQian didn't need mind reading abilities to know what was going through the minds of the guests in the crowd. Of course her etiquette was perfect. The hours of carrying thick books on her head and having to walk in a perfectly straight line while wearing stilettos, learning the perfect manner of speech or eloquence while having her mouth stuffed with cherries and many many more rules and lessons learnt over the years. How could they be forgotten?
Her grandfather led her around the room to meet all the guests. Many of them tried to curry favor by praising her, trying to get in the good books of old master Zhang. RuQian just replied to everyone in a polite but distant manner. While they were mingling around they heard a commotion from the other side of the hall where the youngsters were gathered. From her place RuQian could hear Wan Wan's loud voice shouting at someone. RuQian sighed to herself. The party had just started and Wan Wan had already started her screeching. "Please excuse me for a moment." RuQian smiled apologetically to some of the shareholders of Zhang Tech who had come to speak to her after finally finding out her identity.
She made her way towards the crowd that was gathering. The students parted when they saw her. Most of her schoolmates smiled at her gently and nodded at her while making way for her. RuQian had to give it to Lan Xie. Not even one of the girls gathered there looked like they had any malicious intentions. Some of the boys however leered at her body. RuQian was already used to those disgusting looks.
