"I just have a quick question before we begin." Tom tells the knight in shining armor before him.

"Yes?" Sir. Kay nods.

"Why pick you as the person to give the trial? I mean, your soul is bound to the ring, correct? Why?" Tom asked, knowing it must be lonely unless he somehow goes into Hibernation until someone wears the ring.

Hearing Toms question, a small reminiscent smile graces the serious knight's lips.

"Well, if you pass the test, I'll gladly tell you, Your Highness." Sir. Kay says challengingly.

"Huh, then let's begin, shall we?" Tom says as he strolls over to the weapons rack and grabs a sword similar to Arthur's sword form. 'I guess, I don't get any armor as well?' He thought as he saw no armor laid out for him.

"Good, the test is simple." Sir. Kay says as Tom strolls back and stands a few meters away from him. "Beat me in a duel and you pass. No superpowers are allowed. The Pendragon ring will limit you down to a normal humans strength. Of course, a person of your caliber could easily power through and break that limitation, but doing so would count as an immediate failure. Once again, you must best me in pure swordsmanship to pass, understood?"

Hearing the man's description of the test and its limitations, Tom couldn't help but sigh internally.

'This guy is probably some big-time knight from Arthur's time. Beating him in a duel without any superpowers to help me will be rough...' Tom thought as he readied his sword nonetheless. "I understand. We can't die in here correct?"

"No, during the duel we could cut each other's heads off and be perfectly fine. Lord Merlin spent a lot of time on the Pendragon rings enchantments. As soon as the duel ends, we will be reverted back to perfect health." Sir. Kay explains.

Knowing that he doesn't have to worry about his life being threatened while he's weakened, Tom readied himself for what will probably be the hardest sword fight of his life.

"Are you ready to begin?" Sir. Kay asks as he unsheathes the sword strapped to his hip.

"As ready as I'll ever be." Tom says as he gets into a defensive sword stance. 'Let's stay on the defense and test the waters.'

"Alright, then we'll begin." Sir. Kay said as he dashed forward with his sword wound back behind his head.

Only after a few large steps, Sir. Kay appeared in front of Tom, slashing downward with a ferocious sword swing.

Seeing the swing from a mile away, Tom sidestepped it, barely dodging the attack. Taking the opening given to him, Tom tries sticking the pointed end of his sword through the gap in Sir. Kay's armor near his armpit.

As if having the ability to read the future, Sir. Kay changes the trajectory of his slash and bats away Tom's attack, causing their swords to cross with a loud clang of steel hitting steel.

After their swords crossed, both Tom and Sir. Kay separated and started circling each other, looking for an opening in each other's stance.

"Very impressive, Your Highness." Sir. Kay complements respectfully.

"Thanks, you're not too bad yourself." Tom says as he stays on the defense, looking to study his opponent before acting rashly.

Once the pleasantries we're out of the way, Sir. Kay dashed forward again, knowing from Toms stance that he wasn't going to be making any moves just yet.

Instead of dodging the impending sword strike, Tom swings his sword as well, diverting the strike and going for his own in return.

Of course, a seasoned swordsman and knight like Sir. Kay wouldn't fall for such a simple move. He sees the strike coming and moves his forearm in the way of its trajectory, batting it away with the metal vambrace protecting that portion of his arm.

With the attack blocked, Sir. Kay swings down his sword with his other hand, aiming for Tom's left shoulder. Of course, since Tom has no armor, any area Sir. Kay lands a strike will be detrimental.

Having his sword batted away, Tom can't move it back in time to block the strike, leaving him no choice but to dodge once again.

Thankfully, Sir. Kay could only use one hand to swing his sword, as he blocked Toms attack with his other, which caused his strike to be slower than his normal two-handed swings.

Dodging to the left, Tom was only grazed lightly on the arm, cutting his shirt open and trimming his arm hairs to a perfect smoothness.

Instead of separating like last time, Sir. Kay grabbed his sword with two hands once again and dashes after Toms retreating figure.

Tom, who wanted to get some separation and reset the match once again, didn't expect his opponent to be so aggressive.

Although he wasn't expecting it, that doesn't mean he wasn't ready for the possibility of it happening.

Soon, a flurry of clangs is heard as Tom and Sir. Kay crosses swords multiple times.

The pace of the fight is being completely controlled by Sir. Kay, as he constantly barrages Tom with never ending sword strikes.

Tom, who has learned that he's nowhere near as experienced with the sword as the knight currently doing his best to chop him in half, is doing all he can to keep up and block whatever strike comes his way.

The velocity and ferocity of Sir. Kay's attacks ramped up to an extreme degree. When before Tom could at least give his opponent a counterattack, now he can't even find a space to think about countering whatsoever.

Although Tom knows he's on the ropes, he doesn't cower a single bit and does his best to keep up and push back against the obviously more skilled and experienced swordsman.
