Previously on Avenging Angels
Rosaline manages to shake the fact that she is late by turning the blame on Miss Helda. She gets into the top five and is employed as a maid for the Bladderworts. She awaits the events of tomorrow.
TWO
I reached to open the gate at exactly 6 am.
The sun hasn't fully risen leaving the sky in an orange hue painting.
I just simply nodded at the security guard, didn't feel like smiling at his frog of a face.
I entered the kitchen through the backyard to see it empty, I furrowed my eyebrows and took a look at my watch.
Where is everyone?
Then suddenly I heard crashes coming from upstairs.
What's going on?
I looked up and then at the door. Better find out than stand here looking like a lost puppy.
I followed the noise coming from upstairs to find myself in front of a room. The door was wide open so I didn't have to try to hide.
Crash.
"How could you even think of doing that to me?!" A girl about my age threw a vase at another woman who was obviously older than her by far.
I smirked a little at the scene.
Regina Bladderwort, 5'4, 20 years old, a student of King Theodore University. The only daughter of the Bladderwort.
She is scheduled to marry Justin Castle after her studies, the son of Ray Castle, a prestigious and well-known businessman.
"I-i am sorry, Ma'am" the woman's lips quivered and tears fell from her eyes as she bent over to pick up the broken glasses.
From her clothing, it's obvious she was a maid.
"Sorry? Yeah, you should be! The hell, you should be groveling for my forgiveness!!" Regina yelled at her, her brown hair messed up and her green eyes were vivid with anger.
She looks just like her mother.
"We are sorry about this, Ma'am. I promise this won't happen again" Miss Helda and two other maids bowed their heads in apology.
What a suck-up.
I clenched my fist at the scene. The woman kept bowing her head as tears fell rapidly from her eyes.
"Oh, of course, it won't happen again because Stella is fired" she flipped her hair and moved to leave the room, unknowingly to her, there was water that fell from the vase was on the floor.
Believe me, I didn't do it intentionally, I didn't plan on doing this. I am not this kind.
Due to instincts, I unconsciously stepped forward and caught her before she could land flat on her face resulting in me landing on the floor with Regina on top of me.
Okay, ouch my ass!
"What the hell?" She screamed, her face red with anger as she stood up, succeeding in pressing my stomach in the process.
The hell is that I just saved your already ugly face from getting even uglier and my butt is killing me. The least you could say was thanks.
I stood up with a scowl.
"Rosaline Thorne" Miss Helda spoke through tight lips.
"The one and only" I curtsied with a fake, exaggerated smile.
"What are you doing here?" She rolled her eyes.
"I believe I told you yesterday not to enter any room without knocking or announcing your presence," she said as she walked towards me.
"You are welcome, you don't have to thank me for saving Miss Princess here," I said in pure sarcasm and she stared at me with a very angry look.
"Who is this?!" Regina gritted, glaring at me and eyeing me from head to toe.
What did I do to this witch?
"Nobody important"
Excuse me, she did not just say that!
"She's just a new maid. I am sorry about this, Miss. As you wish, Stella would be fired immediately." She went and dragged the lady from the floor.
"Dismissed" Regina waved her hand dramatically and we all left the room.
And of course, me being me, I didn't leave before giving her a look.
As soon as we left the room, Miss Helda began chastising me about breaking the rules and whatnot.
I zoned out the moment she said 'you'.
We reached the kitchen and all the rest girls were there.
I was about to join them but a grip held me back.
"Do you understand?" She gave me a stare that dared me to disobey. It's tempting.
I sighed and mumbled "yes, Ma'am"
She let go of my arm and the other girls came to meet us near the counter.
"Welcome everyone, Follow me to receive your uniforms and settle down in your room" she walked us to the maid quarters.
I was in a room with Chloe.
She didn't seem that bad. As long as she keeps the room clean and doesn't snore. I don't think there will be a need to kill her and bury her body six feet under.
We quickly changed into our uniforms and stepped out of the room to follow Miss Helda to the kitchen.
"Breakfast will be prepared by the other maids. The rest of you should get to cleaning downstairs. The required tools are inside the stall next to the kitchen. Move" she clapped her hands as a sign of dismissal.
I guess this is my chance.
"I will clean the hallway," I told the other maids and none of them seemed to object, much to my advantage.
I grabbed my bucket and set it down on the end of the hall.
I used my eyes to study the hall carefully.
One camera at the beginning of the hall, two by the left, and on the right one camera, and next to the painting is another camera.
I smirked. I started to mop the floor, not failing to confirm the position of the cameras.
By the time I finished mopping, I have memorized all camera's position and the blind spot as well.
"Total six cameras in the hallway downstairs," I said into my earpiece before leaving to the kitchen to drop my bucket.
I entered the dining room to set the table for breakfast and also keep a lookout for more cameras.
Just two in the dining. Typical.
I quickly reported before anyone came in.
We set the table and waited at each side of the table for the Bladderworts to come in.
Regina first stepped in. She was wearing a skin-tight hot pink dress that barely covers her butt, her brown hair curled and her face packed with makeup frowning.
She sat down and continued to stare at her phone without a single word said.
Next, her brother, Grayson Bladderwort, 6'1, 24 years old, attending King Theodore University as well, said to be dating a girl named Bianca who is his classmate and apparently a slut.
He was putting on dark jeans and a casual t-shirt which displayed his defined muscles underneath which would make girls swoon or drool but it just made me gag.
He entered the dining room, greeting Miss Helda and some of the other maids.
"Oh, new maids, introduce yourself please my ladies" he winked at us, and Georgina I think, swooned over him.
Oh please.
Miss Helda came to introduce us.
"This is Francesca and Sarah"
The cousins bowed "please to meet you, sir"
"Georgina"
She also bowed
"Honoured to meet you sir" she didn't miss a chance to send his way a flirtatious smile.
"Chloe"
Chloe bowed and in a shy voice she said,
"pleased to meet you, sir"
"Rosaline" she pointed at me and I locked eyes with him before I not only bow but curtsied
"Pleased to have your presence with us, sir," I said in a polite tone and Miss Helda raised her eyebrows.
He smirked and nodded before he sat down on his chair, not before giving me a wink to which I rolled my eyes.
I smirked as their elder brother entered.
William Bladderwort, 6'2, 26 years, graduated from King Theodore University as his other siblings, currently working as the director of Sales in Bladderwort's Industry and his fiancee is Janet Peters, his secretary.
He was styling a simple navy blue suit, his brown hair styled to one side of his head, his blue eyes shining more than in the pictures I have seen.
He put on a wide smile as he approached us, he gave Miss Helda a peck in the cheek and greeted the other maids politely.
He stopped in front of us,
"Oh, I forgot that we were having new maids today. Good morning all, I am William Bladderwort, let's just keep it casual, you can all call me William, nice to have you guys around" he said, still keeping his dazzling smile intact.
We all greeted and introduced ourselves.
He was about to sit down but he stopped and looked at me a minute longer with furrowed eyebrows, he shook his head before he went to sit.
I let out a breath of relief because I knew the reason behind his confusion and I was grateful he didn't question me or anything.
Then suddenly, all the maids straightened up and the Bladderworts all stood up from their respective sits.
I saw the reason they all stood at the entrance.
It didn't take a smart man to know that he screams power.
His cold, inquisitive eyes gave all the reason to realize that.
Brad Bladderwort, 6'1, 50 years old, the CEO of Bladderwort's Industry, is married to Avalor Mary Bladderwort. It is said that they were high school lovers and met again in college.
They fell in love, got married, and have three beautiful children. The perfect family.
Or so they made people think.
He was putting on a black suit with a grey tie, his black hair styled backward to display his ever boyish looks.
He didn't fail to run his eyes over the room.
As soon as his eyes met mine, cold shivers ran down my back but I have mastered the art of hiding my emotions so I gave him a small smile.
I pushed back the urge to take a knife and slit his throat.
He stepped into the room and sat down at the head of the table as they all sat down and we began to serve the food for them to eat.
I didn't fail to feel the absence of a person in this perfect family morning.
And just in time,
"Where's mom?" Regina asked as a maid buttered her toast and she took a sip from her tea.
"Mother," Brad said a single word.
"Where's mother?" Regina said with a small roll of her eyes.
"She had to leave for the office early today" his husky voice rang across the room as he didn't look up from his food.
"Why?" Regina asked, a hint of dare in her eyes.
Suddenly, Brad dropped his fork and lifted a perfect eyebrow at his daughter, his eyes deadly as ever.
I felt Chloe shiver next to me.
"I believe that's none of your business, Regina" he spoke lowly and glared at her.
She quickly looked away and grabbed her toast from the maid.
After breakfast, I began to clean up when I heard a voice calling,
"Helda" Brad called as he stood up while cleaning his mouth with a napkin.
"Yes, sir?" She answered promptly.
"I need to talk with the new maids" he cleaned his lips, dropped the napkin, and stepped out of the room.
Miss Helda called us.
"None of you won't utter a single question as he addresses you, is that clear? Answer yes sir when he finished talking" She didn't wait for us to answer before she continued...
"Now follow me" she walked out of the dining room and took a right turn.
She then stopped at a large wooden door and gestured for us to go in.
As we went in, she gave me a look that said 'disobey me and you are out' literally.
I slightly smiled before I stepped into the room.
The first thing that caught my interest was the chandeliers that hung on the ceiling and its spectacular glasses provided a bright light as the sunshine from outside hits the glass to set the room in full beam.
The cream, leather circular sofa was set at the center of the room in which Brad was seated. The ancient paintings on each wall brought out the vintage feels of the room.
"Welcome," he said with a tone that didn't make any of us feel welcome.
"I don't know how your former job was but we have a different Modus Operandi here. I believe Helda must have already told you the rules and regulations we maintain in this castle so let me just give you a brief look into my own rules" he looked at us with eyes devoid of emotions as we bowed our head, some out of fear and that definitely wasn't me.
"1. Disobedience, if you fail to obey any rules in this castle, that would be your last day here, 2. loyalty, as long as you work here, you shall remain loyal to each and every Bladderwort. Any leak of our personal or private information to outsiders will be termed disloyal and that will not only cost you your job but it is also punishable by law.
"The last one, having a relationship with any Bladderwort, that is the most severe of them all. I don't want to be a grandfather to a maid's child. It would be wise to follow each and every one of these rules if you intend on staying here for long" he crossed his legs and narrowed his eyes at us.
"Yes, sir" we all mumbled in unison.
"Welcome to the Bladderwort's Castle. You're dismissed" he waved for us to leave.
We all stepped out of the room and breathed out of relief.
"I nearly peed in my pants" Sarah breathed out.
We all burst into silent laughter and walked to the kitchen, keeping our conversation light.
He just told us the rules to keep our job but I intended on breaking each and every one of them.
*****
I was walking around the hall downstairs as I stared intently at the glass room.
The familiarity that hit me the first time I saw it was still lingering in me.
I usually had a good memory but I couldn't seem to wrap around my finger where I have seen it before.
The roses all in their divine beauty were resting their roots in the pure soil.
I took in the scent and breathed out contently.
It feels like.... home.
Then I heard a sound from my left ear which my white earring is on.
I pressed it and it made a screeching noise, indicating it was on.
"Well, well, how is your first day going, baby girl?" A voice that avidly chewing chips asked.
"You nervous?" She said.
I let out a small chuckle.
"I thought you knew me better than that. I am anything but nervous and quit chewing in my ears" I silently yelled but instead she purposely chewed it more noisily.
"That means you could be scared then," she said and I could particularly see the smirk on her face.
I rolled my eyes in response even though she wasn't here to see me.
As I took another step forward, I bumped into a figure which let out a gasp of surprise.
I bent forward to pick up the phone that fell from our bump.
As I was about to return it to the owner, I stopped dead on my tracks as I locked eyes with the one whom I waited ten years to meet.
Avalor.
Dan, Dan, Dan.
There goes the second chapter.
I hope this was a lot more interesting than the first one.
Just felt like updating.
Thanks for reading and giving this book a try.
Q;who is Avalor that left our ever confident Rosaline speechless?
See you in the next chapter lovely ones.
Bye,
Love from Queen.
