A Midnight Run

"Werewolf dramas"....I throw my phone down after reading the 10th 11th 12th.... I don't know 8 billionth story. I love and hate them all at the same time.

Seriously I am 23 and next in line to be alpha. A female alpha. I haven't found my mate and my father seems to have a mind to keep it that way. I am locked up in a guided cage.

You would probably love my life. Believe me most people would. I have full run of the place all I could ever wish is given to me at a simple request. I train every day with the best fighters. Then I watch tv hang out with friends. Eat what ever I want. Everything you could wish for at my fingertips. So why do I hate my life you ask?

I open my door.

"Do you need anything princess?" Dalton asks from his perch outside my door.

"Will you ever go back to calling me Lilly?" I ask rolling my eyes at his formality. We grew up together and he was my best friend. Now that he works directly for my father he is bound by father's stupid rules.

"You know I can't." Dalton says as he looks at the ground "Your father would kill me"

"I'm going for a run." I say bluntly and turn my back to him. Dalton grabs my arm.

"Wait you have to get permission"

I twist out of his grasp and he grabs my other arm. Pulling me into him.

"So concerned with my father Alt? What would he say if he saw us now?" I whispered in his ear. That got his attention and he released me on the spot.

I step away and stand tall. "I could tell father and..."

"You wouldn't" Dalton says with his stupid grin I haven't seen since we were pups.

I lean in "Maybe, maybe not, who knows what might slip, Alt. You know I'm bad at keeping secrets."

"NO! Come on please. I don't want to lose my position. (or my life) You wouldn't do that to me would you Lil?"

I got him.

As soon as I heard my name slip his lips I knew I'd won. "Tit for tat Alt. I keep your secret you keep mine. Now, I AM going for a run."

Dalton rolls his eyes and reclaims his position at my door. "One hour" he says "or I'll tell your father myself!"

I turn to walk away when Dalton's voice stops me. "And don't get caught!"

I smirk at him over my shoulder and sneak quietly down the stairs and out the front door.

I love sneaking out for these midnight runs. The freedom! The power. I am my own person. I am a wolf.

As soon as the night air hits me my wolf comes alive. One thought "RUN" rings through my whole being. I take a deep breath of the crisp air "RUUUN!" "Alright, alright don't get your tail in a knot!"

I slip around the corner and into the woods. Folding my cloths near the forests edge I begin to run into the depths of the foliage.

I prefer to shift on the run. (Mainly because few wolves can do it.) The change starts with my eyes And everything becomes crisp and clear. My jaw elongates and I can hear perfectly as my ears come to a point. When my spine and ribs begin to snap into place I fall forward to all fours. I look down to see my hands shift to paws. Finally my tale erupts from the base of my spine and I am my wolf. All in all the process takes me less than a minute. It can take some wolves up to 3min to shift.

"Am I bragging? I feel like I'm bragging"

"YES, you are! now shut up and let me run!"

Man my wolf has an attitude a mile long.

I take off faster and faster through the woods. No one can catch me. I feel invincible.

I end up at a stream about 3 miles from the house and take a long drink. I lay down in the soft grass and breath deep. If only I could always be this free.

Just then a smell catches my nose... Wolves
