Back Off, Right Now

Irene's slender fingers that had been typing on her laptop's keyboard for hours paused when her stomach growled for yet another time. She had effortlessly turned a blind eye to it until it became impossible for her to resist her hunger any longer.

Taking the laptop off her lap, she shut it down and kept it aside. Stepping down the bed, she walked to the kitchen despite knowing it was futile.

She had brought no groceries, no ingredients, nothing at all that she could cook. She smacked her forehead for forgetting to buy at least the bare minimum when she left the hotel.

She glanced at the wall clock in her living room. It was past midnight. She was not sure if she was willing to step out at that hour. She rummaged through her bag to find some snacks and pulled out a jar of cookies.

"Love you, Angel!" She sent a virtual hug to Melissa for packing those cookies for her. Too lazy to order something from outside, she ate the cookies and called it a day.
