Chapter 34: The Inheritance

Laura Conti's POV

My family mansion was located in Rome but of course, being married to Lucca Giovanni, we have the private jet to fly there overnight. It was a nice memory to go back to Rome with my encounter with Lucca's family and my childhood backyard.

"we're ready to land, sir," the pilot stated as Lucca just waved his hand.

"Home, I miss it," I said as I looked down on the city. The ancient city was known over the world of its power and wealth.

"yes, and where we first met, remember?" Lucca said as he kissed my hand. I chuckled at his cheesiness.

"Nah, yes, the famous Lucca Giovanni that spends his time screaming in the dark," I said as I remember our childhood together.

"Hey, don't judge, it was a scary place to be in there," he whined as he pouted his lips. I laughed at him before kissing him. His mood always better when I kissed him.

"Of course, whatever you say, love," I said as the plane just landed at the hangar and we were ready to move to my childhood home. Lucca had specifically told his employees that he will be driving me from now on. No more chauffeur and all other stuff as I requested for him. I can always take public transport and such when going to the campus, but no…The Lucca Giovanni wanted to drive me himself. Not that I complained but can't help thinking how sweet was that.

"Sir," his valet gave him the keys to his Lamborghini as we were walking toward the car. They already put our carry on in the trunk as Lucca took the keys. He went to open the door for me to go into and I slide in before he went to the driver's seat and started the ignition and drove out of the private jet hangar.

the drive was like how we went to visit my in-laws but only different routes and junctions. It was a sunny day and sunshine was shining over my face as Lucca's convertible was opening the roof. I wore sunglasses to protect my eyes as well as Lucca. The radio was playing Katy Perry's Teenage Dream as I was listening to it. Looking at Lucca, he was just like the actor in the music video and me as Katy Perry, singing to him.

"If you keep staring, dolcezza, we need to make a few stops before reaching on time," Lucca said. I just laughed at his remark before looking at the scenery of the city with its colosseum and its people wandering around the city on a sunny afternoon. Lucca made a turn and drove for another 10 minutes before a huge Victorian mansion came into view. He stopped the car in front of the gate before punching in the numbers that I told him for the gates to open. He drove into the courtyard and stopped in front of the large door before the butler opened it.

"Home, sweet home," I said as I got off from the car and the maids just getting our stuff. I looked over at Lucca as he handed the keys to the butler to park inside the garage.

"are you ready?" He asked as he was coming toward me and offered his hand.

"as I would ever be," I said as we walked inside the room and went to my late father's study. It was the same as I remembered. The mahogany, the smell, the limited lights coming from outside. Ah…memories.

"Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Giovanni. I hope it's not too late to say congratulations on your wedding," the lawyer said as he shook hands with us.

"Thank you," Lucca replied to him as he gestured us to take the seats in front of him. Kyle was there as well. He stood up from his seat to greet me and Lucca.

"Mia Sorella," he said as he kissed both off my cheeks and hugged me.

"Lucca," he said as he shook hands with my husband.

"Where's Marco? I thought he will be here for the hearing," I said as I looked at Kyle.

"Yes, he was on his way now. They have some traffics and of course the complication of the paperwork. But he will be here, Laura," Kyle said as he held my hands for reassurance. I sighed before taking the seat as well as Kyle and Lucca.

"I presume Marco will be here, but it was overdue for quite some time," the lawyer said before I interrupted him.

"Come on, if you can wait 6 months, you can wait another minute," I said as I looked at him. Kyle and Lucca were amused at my blunt.

"Yes, of course, Mrs. Giovanni," he said as we waited for another minute. The door of the study room burst opened with Marco being drama queen as he ever was. He was walking inside the room with chains on his hands and feet.

"Sorry, I'm late. You know how it is. Marco Conti needed a dramatic entrance," he said as police were escorting him to the seat. I got up as well as Lucca and Kyle before I ran toward Marco. He looked thin compared to when I met him during my kidnapping.

"hi, how are you?" I asked as I tried to hug him. The police stopped me before I can. I scoffed.

"he's my brother. Let me hug him," I said.

"Sorry, ma'am we can't risk anything," the police officer said. I scoffed again before I tole him.

"he's family. No one would hurt their own family," I said as I pushed him and went to hug Marco. Lucca talked to the police to let it slide as I was missing him like shit.

"I missed you, Laura. Lucca treats you well," Marco said as I kissed his cheeks.

"yes, he is. he's good, for now," I joked.

"well, if you ever need someone to bury the body, I'm your guy," he said as we chuckled at our inside joke.

"what's so funny?" Lucca said as he stood next to me. Marco shrugged before he went to take a seat.

"nothing. Just some old family jokes," I said before we went to take our seat as well.

"well, I see that everyone is here, so let's get down to business," the lawyer said as we were waiting for him to start. He cleared his throat before begun.

"I have some request from the current holder of the inheritance, Mrs. Laura Giovanni. She asked me to draft a new will from your father. She asked that the inheritance will be divided equally among you guys with an exception that Kyle will be in charged of all the businesses, in Italy and abroad. Her reason was that she wants to focus on her studies and wouldn't have time to do the business herself. besides, Mr. Kyle already has an MBA and a Bachelor's degree in Business and Finance. I'm sure you can handle that, would you, Mr. Kyle?" The lawyer asked my brother. I looked at him and his face told me everything that he needed to hear.

"You would do that for me?" Kyle asked as he turned to look at me. I nodded.

"Besides, you're working there at the entry-level without telling people who you are, so I think you deserve to get the job," I said as I took his hands. There were tears in his eyes as he was thankful.

"Laura, thank you," he said as he held my hands. I smiled before the lawyer cleared his throat.

"As for Mr. Marco. You will get the inheritance after your service with the country. You have been discharged with a penalty of death as Mr. Giovanni requested it because you're family. hence, you will be working for the government for 3 years," the lawyer said as Marco attentively listened to it.

"Sounds good to me," he said as he sat back and relaxed before winking at Lucca for his thankful gesture.

"and now, for Mrs. Laura's inheritance. It will be conducted by her husband, Lucca Giovanni, as she requested because she can't focus her academia if she had to be in office. Can you do that, Mr. Giovanni?" The lawyer looked at Lucca as he was frozen in his seat. He gulped before speaking.

"You mean, I get her inheritance and arrange the businesses?" He asked.

"yes, that is correct," the lawyer stated.

"I don't, I don't know. I can't just take it from you," he said as he looked at me.

"Lucca, I gave it to you for a reason. I will be busy to travel and teach and research. You need to arrange it so it will not fall into anyone's hand. I trusted you would do it," I said as I caressed his cheeks. He looked at me with his slate orbs before sighing.

"fine, if you said so. I will do it, for you," he said as he took my hands into his.

"perfect, now that all settle, why don't we celebrate it," the lawyer said before taking out the whiskey that father kept for a special occasion. We just laughed at his gesture.
