Kinley had been at the Dancing Rose for the last hour in a business meeting with one of the few people who knew her identity before she had gone overseas for schooling. Melody had promised to entertain and feed the kids in the main restaurant while she discussed the continued success of blocking her information from the public. Finding the computer genius who had made it all possible had been a stroke of good luck Kinley had needed in those first few weeks after everything had happened to her and her little family. Now that she had managed to catch up in person with the computer genius whom she had kept in touch with over the years though emails she felt assured of his continued support. He would remain one of the only people who would actually have her phone number as well.
Kinley had walked down the hallway that had led back to the main Restaurant away from the well sound proofed and very private rooms that even government officials used to make deals. She hadn't expected that instead of seeing her children sitting at the table with food or deserts she had seen them talking with a stranger in a navy suit near the bar. Her hackles rose instantly as she wondered what the strange man wanted with her children. If he was going to hurt them then he would have to get through her first."Who are you? And What are you doing to my children?" She growled her protective mother bear instincts coming through.
However the man in the suit simple turned his steel grey eyes burning with desire into hers "I'm Your Prince." He told her flashing her a small smile that lit up his cold face and made her take a quick inhale of air as if she had to breath in the scent of him right at that very moment. His very presence shocked her and caused her to momentarily be distracted. But after a few fast heartbeats and two deep breaths her mind seemed to start functioning again. Wait had he just said he was a prince? No, not just a prince but her prince.
"No." She said with as much finality as she could muster. "I don't have nor need a Prince." Dispute her insane and instant attraction to the man she couldn't afford the distraction. She had to stand tall and strong now for her kids futures.
Reganne giggles in the way only young girls seemed to. "Mommy he looks just like the Cold Prince in your stories. Do you think he will cross the seas and fight the dragons for love too?" Her eyes beamed hopefully at the stranger who looked rather sheepish and ran his hand through his hair before looking at her almost pleading with her for what he was supposed to say in response to her child's questions.
With a sigh Kinley looked to her daughter. "Honey, not all men need to slay dragons to find love. And not all Princesses need someone to rescue them. For all we know this gentleman is waiting to meet with his wife or girlfriend for a late dinner." Reganne seemed to wilt a bit at that.
"But where is the romance in that?" She asked with exasperation. "What good is a story where you don't have to go on an adventure and maybe slay some dangerous beasts to find love?"
Quinn who had been silently standing beside his sister shook his head. "All that love stuff is gross Reg. I'd rather just go on the adventure and learn to ride dragons that way I could go on more adventures ."
While the kids began to debate Kinley looked up at the stranger with an apologetic smile and a shrug. Kids, she hoped it conveyed the complex feelings she always had while looking at them. They were her everything the good and the bad of life. They had survived so much together. Without these two beside her she wasn't sure if she would have survived the tragedies of her past.
"I'm sorry if we've bothered you at all." She told the man as she saw Melody rushing over from the hallway that lead towards the restrooms a surprised look on her face.
"No, it was really no bother," he said with a smile as Melody ushered the kids towards the doors of the restaurant. His smile was warm and she felt a slight blush heating her cheeks before she turned to leave as well.
"And I'm currently Princessless, but I wouldn't mind slaying a dragon or two for the right person." He said a a deep voice almost spoken like a whisper. A confession just for her ears from the dark stranger who even now looked at her like he couldn't wait to taste her.
Instead of answering Kinley turned and left the restaurant aware that the strangers eyes followed her as she left. For the first time in years she might even have swayed her hips a bit more hoping to give him something to remember.
