Shackled (1)

It was already mid-afternoon. Getting the car into a parking spot some steps away from the station, Yang Lin stepped out of the car, locking it, before briskly heading into a somber looking three story building, bearing the yellow and red emblem of DongFu police station.

They all wore the customary grey and black uniform with the insignia of the station on their uniform, along with the officer cap to match. Mondays were usually one of the busiest days of the week in the station, this was when crime was at its height.

The ground floor was where people were usually brought in for questioning, the other floors served as administrative offices. Yang Lin walked through a glass door, inside was an office type setting, but what made it different was the caliber of people that was inside. He went by a lot of people, some had cuts and bruises from fist fights, most were on their feet with only a few seating on a brown bench. The phone kept going off with people shouting, cursing and hitting each other.

The officers were already used to it and without much change in their demeanor, they would ignore what they could and step in whenever the need arose. Yang Lin looked around the chaotic scene as he tried to look for an officer that was free at the moment, because everyone looked too busy handling other things.

His eyes continued to roam, until someone called out in a loud voice, "Hey! is there something you need?!"

Turning to where he heard the voice from, Yang Lin saw an officer that looked to be in his fifties, he was a stocky man. Seeing the man wave at him, Yang Lin hurried to where he was. On getting there, he introduced himself to the officer.

"I'm Officer Wu. Oh! So you are with Miss Zhang?!"

The man's had on an unimpressed look on his face, his previously welcoming expression changed to one of slight annoyance. Not surprised at all by the sudden change in the officer's behavior, Yang Lin, went on to ask him what was needed to bail out the Zhang heiress.

On checking through the computer at his desk, Officer Wu was able to pull out the police record of Zhang Mi, he stood up after a while to pull out a file from a dark secured metal cabinet against the wall, before returning back to his seat, going through them and typing into the system at the same time. A few minutes passed before the officer handed him some papers regarding the information that the Department of Corrections would need in order to grant the Zhang heiress bail.

On hearing it was the exact same thing that officer Ma told him, a feeling of gratitude came over him, as he struggled to get his emotion together. The officer asked him if he had the means to make the payment. On hearing the other man's reply regarding readiness to pay the bail, the officer directed him to the second floor where payment of bail bond was usually handled. Yang Lin and the Officer shook hands before heading out.
