Wound and Pain

Our engagement party is today. We couldn't wait. David and James are working hard to coordinate the whole event. Shanshan came with Starlight and I watched them smiling while they played together. I really wish Daniel could see this wonderful sight.

While I checked the guest listing and doing some administration work, I noticed Daniel wasn't in the room. I thought he's just busy with his own stuff but a secretary came to me and said Daniel was acting strange.

Strange?

"Where is he right now?" I asked.

"In his office. You better check on him." She said.

"I'll go check on him. Shanshan, can you help me watch Starlight and make sure you don't go anywhere? I need to check on Daniel. I'll be back soon." I told her.

As I went up to his office, I saw no one. I called Daniel's name but he didn't answer. I went out again and searched every room. But I saw no one.

Then, I hear a faint noise in the hallway. There, I saw Daniel leaning against the wall.

"Daniel, what's wrong? Are you hurt?" I said worrily.

"My legs are hurting. I wanted to find you by myself but both of my legs suddenly got painful. I don't know why." He spoke shakily.

"I'm here. It's okay, your legs are not bleeding." I hugged him.

"Let's go check on David and James. They will know what to do. Okay?" I said gently.

When I put Daniel on the wheelchair, we went down to the engagement party room. Daniel and James were talking outside. I asked them about Daniel's condition and James told me he spoke to Daniel's doctor before.

"Crystal, I think you know about Daniel's abusive parents, right?" I nodded. "When they abused him, his legs got wounded badly. He got a lot of stitches on there when he was brought to the hospital. When he was under stress, he will experience chronic pain in his legs. It happened several months ago when you were in a coma. But, he didn't tell you because he doesn't want you to worry. It can occur any time. That is why he usually sit on the wheelchair. Sometimes the pain will be unbearable for him. Also, Daniel might not remember the abuse because his memory of it got suppressed." I thanked James for explaining that and he told me Daniel will get better as long as he's with me.

As I went back to Daniel's side, David left us alone. I explained it to Daniel too but he told me he doesn't remember getting abused. I told him it's okay not to remember.

I hugged and kissed him. I called Shanshan to bring Starlight out and when they came out I held Starlight and placed it on Daniel's arm hoping he will feel better after holding his daughter.

"Here, Daniel. It's Starlight. Hold her like this. Yeah, good. Hold on to her, it will be help you." I smiled.

"Daniel, she got your eyes. It's really pretty." I saw his smile slowly forming.

He must've been in a lot of pain. I will never forgive anyone who tries to hurt him. I wheeled Daniel to the engagement party room. He will feel less stressed this way.

When the engagement party started, I stood by Daniel to make sure he's safe. Everyone is enjoying themselves now which is a relief.

"Attention, everyone. Today we celebrate the engagement of our CEO, Daniel Chen and his future wife, Crystal Yu!" David screamed in happiness.

"Thank you for coming, everyone. It's been a long difficult journey as you might've known but it's our love and your support that we are here today. And, this is Starlight, our daughter." I said.

I gave the microphone to Daniel and asked him if he wants to say anything, he nodded. I placed the microphone into his hand. "Everyone, thank you for your support. I couldn't have done it without my lovely wife and all of you as well. We've been through a lot and we hope to go through it together. Thank you all." Daniel said.

Everyone applauded and said their congratulations to us.

We felt very supported.
