"It would be better to wait here rather than outside." Mr. Di suggested when he saw Han Meixiu started to prepare to leave.
Mr. Di's suggestion made sense. Since the sun had already set, staying outside would not be really good. But one would still take some time to traverse the distance between the hut and the gate.
Han Meixiu was thinking, 'What if Liu Zijian would arrive earlier than what he estimated?'
If it would be the opposite, she actually didn't mind waiting. As long as the wind would not blow excessively, she could stand the coldness.
"It's okay." She simply answered and bowed slightly before leaving the hut.
Sir Sigma closely followed the young woman.
When the two finally left, Mr. Di retracted his gaze and moved his attention to the young major standing near him without any visible emotions on his face.
"It's good to have someone you love Major Li. Why don't you find a woman to spice up your life? Guarding me is really boring, don't you think?"
The major briefly gave him a quick glance before answering.
"It's not necessary."
Mr. Di sighed. 'He's really a block of wood.'
Both Sir Sigma and Han Meixiu walked calmly towards the gate where Liu Zijian could pick Han Meixiu up.
The older man was kept on talking about Liu Zijian's time when he was still training under him. His steps were obviously slowed so the young woman could cope up.
Han Meixiu who was walking slightly behind Sir Sigma was smiling subtly. She could imagine his facial reactions while training. She thought that it must have been adorable.
When they arrived at the gate, Han Meixiu felt the wind blowing. Although it wasn't that strong, it still gave her some chills.
Since they already stopped walking and she's not moving anymore, the coldness brought by the early winter became more evident. Although it wasn't the type that would reach into her bones, it was still enough to make her shiver.
Sir Sigma was talking to the people guarding the entrance while Han Meixiu was focusing her attention to the road in front of her.
She was hoping that a pair of light would eventually emerged in her point of view.
Her pair of eyes were constantly drifting from the road to Sir Sigma.
She was thinking that maybe Liu Zijian would call as there was still no sign of any vehicle coming.
Unfortunately, she was destined to be disappointed. Sir Sigma wasn't holding his phone nor even checking it. In short, there was no call coming at all.
She rubbed her pair of hands to warm them and gently placed on her face.
She repeated her actions several times before she saw Sir Sigma walking towards her. She lit up for a while and looked if he was holding a phone. Unfortunately he wasn't.
"If you feel cold, you could wait inside the guardhouse. There's a small heater inside." Sir Sigma suggested when he saw her rubbing her hands.
Han Meixiu looked at the guardhouse and saw two people were inside.
Following her gaze, Sir Sigma understood her worries.
"They can stay outside."
"But…"
"Don't worry. This kind of coldness wouldn't affect them that much."
Han Meixiu thought for a while and when she was about to agree, a light finally lit the dim road.
"That's probably them!" She exclaimed. In her excitement, she forgot she was actually feeling cold. If given a chance, she would have jumped out of the gate.
*
"Third Young Master Chen, Master Wujing is on the line."
'Father?' Three lines subtly formed on Chen Dewei's forehead.
Even though he was completely baffled by the sudden call of his father, he nodded to accept the call.
"Dewei, did you do something to Liu Zijian?"
The statement was straight to the point. Chen Wujing was confused by the sudden request of Liu Zijian to meet him. Although it was cancelled and rescheduled he couldn't help but to start worrying.
"What do you mean?"
"Dewei, maybe you could mask the recent attacks of other residences as something not worthy to be worried about, but I know it was something to do with the Liu Family. The thing is, they don't make a move unless provoked."
"It's really nothing to worry about. There was just a simple misunderstanding. It will be cleared up soon." Chen Dewei responded confidently.
"Be sure that's really the case." Chen Wujing said. "I have a meeting with Liu Zijian tomorrow. I hope I won't hear your name during our talk."
Chen Dewei on the other line smirked.
"For sure you would, father."
"What do you mean? So, you really did something."
"Just answer his questions. No need to be too paranoid."
Chen Dewei could hear the heavy sigh of his father.
"Alright. Is that Han woman will not really escape this time?" Chen Wujing was a bit worried. This was actually the third time his son's supposed to be engagement to a Han female. And he hoped it would go right this time. But there's actually a small part of him that wanted the engagement to fail. Han Family was nothing compared to Chen Family.
"She won't."
"Why didn't you choose from other families? There was clearly no benefit you could get by engaging yourself to a woman with no family power." Chen Wujing couldn't help to voice out his other concern after his son's confirmation.
"I need to finish some last minute preparation, father." Chen Dewei answered clearly avoiding to answer his question.
"Okay, okay. I'll see you tomorrow night." Upon hearing his son's answer, he resigned his case. If he didn't want to answer then he would not push him to. He knows his son, to avoid unnecessary arguement it would be better to just let the topic by.
After the call, Chen Dewei walked out of his study. He went directly to Han Meili's room.
The latter was preparing herself for the dinner. The past days, she's been eating with Chen Dewei and the treatment he gave her was still baffling but she was starting to get used to it.
Han Meili was constantly reminding herself not to be drowned in this kind of feeling. As much as possible she wanted to always keep her guards up.
After knocking, Chen Dewei opened the door and came inside the room.
Han Meili was stopped her steps and waited for his next course of action.
"I'm just checking if you're still here." Chen Dewei said after he looked at her for a few minutes without restriction.
His stares could bring Han Meili to a roller coaster ride. She could feel excitement, thrill, exhilaration and of course, fear.
Han Meili remembered to react only when the door of her room was closed. Chen Dewei was no longer in her sight.
It was as if his visit was just a pigment of her imagination.
'What was that? Where does he think I could go?'
