Value of Food

Anger slowly rose up within Kyle as he thought about how the owner of the Oasis Seeker was hiking up the food prices to such extreme levels.

While some people would have brought food along with them, there were many passengers who would not have prepared food for the month long journey and would thus be forced to patronise the ship's restaurant.

Capitalising on this demand for food, the owners of the Oasis Seeker must have come up with this idea to completely squeeze their passengers dry!

Of course, the passengers could have avoided this problem altogether as well.

By doing their due diligence, they could have prepared themselves by bringing food along for the trip, but this action by the ship owners was still nothing short of robbing others during their times of need.

Fine!

Since the ship administrators wanted to be this unscrupulous, then he would rather starve for the entire journey than to give them a single coin!

Though it was not like his measly coins were worth anything in their eyes in the first place…

Kyle immediately shook away those negative thoughts that had silently crept into his mind, not wanting to believe that he was now considered among the ranks of the poor.

But when he looked around him, Kyle felt slightly confused as well.

All these people dining around him seemed neither angry nor resigned, and were instead chatting happily with one another as though nothing was wrong.

In other words, they definitely did not look like people who were being squeezed dry!

What is going on here?

Could it be that food really is this expensive in Green Realm?

Is Green Realm not supposed to be a lush place with an abundance of greeneries?

Surely there must be plenty of food in such a place…no?

But from the looks of things, what he had always imagined about Green Realm was likely to be completely off the mark.

Damn it! How unlucky!

There were so many Lower Realms to choose from, why did he have to choose this darned Green Realm?

Kyle took out one of the gold coins on him and let out a regretful sigh while staring at it.

What good was gold when you could not eat it?

Now he could fully relate to that old saying.

Was his street smart sister unaware of the prices of food in Green Realm as well? Or was it simply beyond her means to acquire copper coins for him?

After all, from what he heard earlier, even a single copper coin could purchase at least 10 full mansions!

"May I know your orders, good sir?" the old waiter asked from beside him, his pitch suddenly sounding slightly higher from before.

Alarmed, Kyle hurriedly kept the gold coin in his hands.

He could sense that the old waiter had gotten slightly agitated upon seeing him take out the gold coin.

What a big blunder!

He had actually allowed the old waiter to witness him fiddling with such a low valued coin, so no wonder the old waiter was agitated.

The old waiter must have realised that he would not be able to pay for any of the food here!

Kyle nervously cleared his throat before speaking, "My apologies, I suddenly feel a little bloated. I think it is better for me to dine in again later in the day."

The old assistant frowned the moment he heard Kyle's words.

He had been excited when he saw Kyle take out a gold coin, thinking that he might be receiving a generous tip this time since he was attending to a rich customer. But was this customer here just to waste his time because staying on the ship was too boring for him?

It was not like this kind of thing had never happened before either.

After all, there were no entertainment facilities on the Oasis Seeker, and the unprepared ones would feel lost at the sudden lack of things to do.

The more he recalled the past few times when he had been taken for a ride, the more the old waiter thought that this man before him must be one of those damned idlers.

"Suddenly feeling bloated? Didn't you say that you are really hungry just a few moments ago? If you are not here to eat, then don't come and waste our time!" the old man snorted in disdain and promptly took back the menu placed in front of Kyle.

Kyle kept his silence, not bothering to retort the words of the old waiter.

In fact, he even felt a little relieved upon seeing the old waiter stomp away in anger.

As he thought, the waiter had probably guessed that he only had gold coins on him and thus decided not to entertain him anymore.

It definitely did not feel good to be snapped at like that, but at least this saved him the greater embarrassment of having to admit his own lack of money.

And this was especially after he had even boasted to the old waiter that he would be eating a lot of food!

No wonder the old waiter was so angry…

Now that his waiter had walked away, Kyle had to seize the opportunity before another waiter came!

He immediately got up from his seat and slipped out of the restaurant, ignoring the judgemental gazes of the other diners around him.

It was not all bad for him either.

Even though it was an embarrassing lesson, at least he now had a rough estimate of the value of food in Green Realm!

How sad, to think that he had fallen to such a state immediately after leaving the Wick Family!

However, Kyle was still holding on to a last thread of hope.

Perhaps the quality of food on the Oasis Seeker restaurant was of extremely high quality, and thus the customers were actually willing to spend on it. If so, the ones dining at the restaurant must have only been the rich!

Once he arrived at Green Realm, he definitely had to check out the prices of food again in order to confirm this!
