For some unknown reason, Eun Young felt flustered upon entering the house. The place was frighteningly dark and silent. The only audible sound was the whistling of the cool wind and the rapid beating of her heart.
Eun Young almost didn't notice the shadow of a man standing by the window. The man had his arms crossed over his chest as he gazed beyond the glass that reflected his breathtakingly handsome features. He stood still like a masterpiece perfectly carved by its sculptor. But beneath the dim light, his face visibly held a bleak expression.
How long had he been standing there? Eun Young wanted to ask him. From where he was, it wasn't impossible that he saw her arrive. It hasn't even been a minute since she and Suk Ju parted ways.
Min Jae emitted a cold aura. Suddenly worried, Eun Young took a step back. However, she ended up accidentally bumping the side table, causing the ancient porcelain to tumble. The antique broke into shards across the glossy floor. Fortunately, she wasn't harmed.
Glancing from the shattered glass to the man on the other side of the room, Eun Young was surprised as she was met by a pair brown eyes. Min Jae was looking at her. Suddenly feeling conscious, she avoided his stares hoping that he would look away. But when she glanced at him again, his eyes were still on her.
Min Jae casually placed his hands on his pockets before slowly approaching Eun Young. He had an unreadable expression that she found difficult to see through. He didn't seem angry, but he didn't look cheerful too. What is he thinking?
It only took him a few steps, then he stopped a few inches in front of her. He was still staring at Eun Young. His brown eyes searched hers before he finally spoke.
"Eun Young." He calmly said. His voice was hot and raspy upon mentioning her name.
Eun Young was skeptical of her husband's unusual behavior. She was a bit alarmed, but she dared not to show it in her face. She didn't reply. Instead, she clenched her fists and courageously stared back at him. Her heart was intensely pounding during the process.
The corner of Min Jae's lips curved upward. This time, his eyes finally revealed a glimpse of amusement as he scoffed. "Do you really think you have what it takes to play with me?" He dauntingly said.
Eun Young was momentarily dumbfounded with his words. She looked at him confusedly. "W-what do you mean?"
Min Jae stepped forward and Eun Young instinctively retreated. She felt her knees weaken under his agonizing stare. He took another step closer while she took another one back. However, it wasn't long until she felt the hard concrete behind her. This time, she had nowhere else to run as Min Jae placed his hands on either sides of her head.
Min Jae leaned closer. "What are you doing to me, Eun Young?" He whispered, his gaze not leaving hers.
Eun Young nervously gripped the hem of her dress. "I... I d-don't know what you're talking about." She breathlessly responded.
He smirked and shook his head to disagree. "You're lying."
Eun Young swallowed. She was lost for words. Is this why he was acting unusual? But... what does this have to do with her?
"I already told you." She said again, more dignified this time. She looked at him in the eye. "I don't know what you're talking about. Stop acting like a--"
Eun Young wasn't able to finish the remaining of her sentence as she was shut up by a kiss. Her eyes completely widened in surprise. Min Jae's soft lips gently captured hers. Everything happened so quickly that it was definitely a move Eun Young never anticipated in her lifetime.
She tasted a hint of alcohol on his mouth. Nonetheless, she couldn't think about it further anymore as she was really caught off-guard. Her heart and mind was a mess! Just as she was about to push him away, Min Jae gently held her head between his hands. His touch was enough to clear her mind and her intentions of rejecting him.
Min Jae stepped closer and Eun Young instantly felt the heat of his body against hers. His scent was intoxicating. Placing a hand at the small of her back, he carefully pulled her closer. Min Jae delicately caressed her jaw with his thumb and if it weren't for his strong arm holding her, she would've sunken to the ground.
Eun Young slowly closed her eyes. This... this felt so much like a dream she always had in her heart. She never knew that she would actually live long enough to experience it herself. But then again, this was much better than the dream. He treated her as if she was a fragile creature. His touch was gentle and his kiss was warm and sweet...
How could this be? Is... is this for real?
As if he had actually read her thoughts, Min Jae abruptly broke the kiss. The once warm and loving man was gone in an instant. In his place now stood the cold and heartless husband Eun Young always knew. It was bittersweet. A magical dream turned to a tragic nightmare.
Eun Young's heart broke as reality slapped her hard. Her tears began to well up but she mustered all her strength to hold them back.
"I'm willing to play the game with you, Eun Young." Min Jae hoarsely said.
"What?" Eun Young cried frustratedly. At the same time, she was confused and bewildered. Her emotions were in chaos!
"That was to even out the battlefield. You said you have no idea what I was talking about, didn't you? Eun Young... I couldn't get you out of my fu***** head!" He said through gritted teeth.
His glistening brown eyes stared at her intently. "I hope you're prepared to lose." He muttered before finally leaving her and ascending up the stairs.
