Old Scars Are Hard To Heal

At the bed and breakfast, after browsing all of Anna's sketchbooks and trying to read a couple of her diaries, Lu AnLing was nowhere close to finding out why the lobby of Hotel Helios was in her sketch pad.

Actually, Lu AnLing had just gotten more and more confused about the girl's life. Anna was innocent but at the same time, she wasn't at all. Her sketchbook contained graphic details about the things the girl would do in order to survive and how she hated herself for it but Lu AnLing wasn't sure if it was real or not. At some point, as she looked at the sketches, Lu AnLing felt the sudden urge to go drown herself and the feeling burned itself into her mind. That was when she couldn't take it anymore.

Taking the diaries and sketch pads, Lu AnLing placed them on the table and then crawled into bed.

Lu AnLing who had become tired from snooping decided to go on her cellphone.

Kang Jun had gotten her a good cellphone plan which gave her the ability to use her phone as if she was back home in T City but the girl still used it sparingly.

Though, at the moment, Lu AnLing needed to clear her head after all she had done.

As she looked through the messages, there weren't many important things. Lu AnLing only saw a few messages from Sheng and calls and texts from her mother and grandmother.

Seeing the messages from her grandmother and mother, Lu AnLing began to feel a bit depressed. She still wasn't sure how to face the old woman. She felt insecure and every time she thought of how much Grandma Lu hated Kang Jun, Lu AnLing took it as an offense to herself.

Quickly, she browsed through her phone for something else to look at and suddenly, she had an idea.

Lu AnLing hadn't visited her high school chat in a while. In fact, she had muted it so it wouldn't cause her too many annoyances but, just for today, she decided to catch up on what she had missed.

Maybe they even decided the date of the reunion, the girl thought, though what she saw when she entered was not what she had expected. In a matter of seconds, dozens of messages filled the screen.

Scrolling up Lu AnLing wondered what was going on. Suddenly, she saw a text in all caps.

Ziyi: [FML another one of my Queens is already taken!]

Confused Lu AnLing scrolled until she found a picture. There her heart almost sank in her chest.

She saw a girl exiting Kang Jun's car. Kang Jun himself wasn't his usual self, he seemed calm and happy. He wore a face that was reserved almost exclusively for Lu AnLing.

Unable to hold her jealousy, Lu AnLing read more messages so she could properly understand what was going on.

Fei Fei: [That's totally Tang Bingyi. I saw her at one of the Xiao's parties! And they're saying the other one is Kang Jun. As in the president of Kang Corporations. He's such a catch! KangTang? I ship it. ]

Seeing this, Lu AnLing frowned.

Tang Bingyi?

Suddenly, Feng Yan's words made sense to Lu AnLing.

'Are you a Tang?' The words flashed across Lu AnLing's mind. Then Tang Bingyi was Feng Yan's rival in marrying Kang Jun?

Lu AnLing scoffed.

Kang Jun was a catch but he was her catch. Lu AnLing didn't care who the girl leaving Kang Jun's car was or why Kang Jun's expression was so soft but she wasn't going to allow the Tang girl to take her man and neither did she want to jump to conclusion.

Kang Jun was a kind man.

Kang Jun was a truthful man.

Lu AnLing repeated those words in her head and she truly believed it but old scars are hard to heal. Yang Yize's betrayal still hadn't left her and so her mind raced with stupid thoughts.

Had Kang Jun already lost interest in her?

She slapped herself.

"Stop being an idiot, he loves you." She said to herself sternly before she began to text Kang Jun.

Lu AnLing: [Are you awake? Can we talk?]

After a few minutes, Kang Jun didn't answer so Lu AnLing assumed he was sleeping.

Not wanting to drive herself mad with assumptions of what had happened that day, Lu AnLing decided to go to bed.

However, she didn't get a wink of sleep.

The next morning Lu AnLing, seeing the sun rise up, got herself out of bed, took a long shower and got dressed in the prettiest thing she had packed.

After her shower was done, she looked at her phone to see she got a message from Kang Jun.

King Kang: [Did something happen?]

Then a second later, he sent another message.

King Kang: [I' boarding the place. I'll be by your side soon.]

Seeing this, Lu AnLing's heart calmed slightly and then she headed out.

Before Kang Jun came, Lu AnLing passed by the hospital to get the DNA tests. They had called her and told her the tests had been completed when she was in the shower and Lu AnLing thought it would be best for her to pick them up before Kang Jun arrived.

Looking at the envelopes in her hand Lu AnLing began to wonder why Kang Jun had taken a paternity test. He had told her before that it was because he wanted to see if anyone was messing with the tests but, when she thought about it, that wouldn't make much sense unless Kang Jun was possibly the father of her kids.

It would explain the involvement of people close to the Kang's in taking her children. This would only mean that she wouldn't know who to trust...

Thinking this, Lu AnLing's heart missed a beat.

Feeling a crawling feeling within her, Lu AnLing shook her head.

'No matter what, I must not doubt. I must have faith in Kang Jun!' She whispered to herself internally. Like a mantra.

But then, her father's voice entered her head.

'Love is for fools. It doesn't last.' His voice rang loud and clear in her ears. So clear, she almost felt the man's breath as if he was saying it into her ear.

Shivers went down her spine as she hurried up and hailed a taxi back to the bed and breakfast.

Once there, Lu AnLing put the unopened paternity test envelops on a desk in the room before she crawled back into her bed.

The girl leaned back into her pillow and she then put her arm over her head, covering her eyes from the midday sun, which peered shyly past the window curtains.

In the room, there was a single clock which ticked and ticked and ticked until Lu AnLing felt herself enter a trance.

Knowing that Kang Jun would sooner or later walk through the threshold of the room made a familiar feeling of dread fill her.

She couldn't believe she had been so happy only a day ago.

Thinking about it made the girl laugh dryly.

Lu AnLing had almost forgotten that love was a powerful emotion when happy, but equally as powerful when sad. Her own thoughts crippled her but this time, it was to a new extent.

Even when dating Yang Yize she had never felt so afraid to lose a person.

As she thought of this, the door suddenly opened.

At first, Lu AnLing's body made no reaction. She just felt as if her body had become a stone thrown into a watery abyss.

Seeing the girl not lift herself up Kang Jun dropped his briefcase and ran over to the girl.

He put his hand on her forehead. This action caused her to flinch.

Seeing this, Kang Jun frowned and said,

"What's wrong?"

It's normal to have feelings of doubt or jealousy even if you trust someone... It sucks but it happens. What's important is to know your lover's character enough to decided whether to believe in them or not when they tell you the truth.

I must warn that the next chapter contains scenes not suitable for younger audiences. So it's 18+!
