Something Traumatic (2)

Hearing what Chong Feng had said, Lu AnLing frowned.

Lu AnLing began to think of many things concerning the fire and Old Chong.

After all the small pieces of information that had come Lu AnLing's way, many things had connected to the Kang family. And if Kang Mingyu or Kang Mei Xue was her child then wouldn't this mean that the Kang family kidnapped her child?

Wouldn't that mean it's possible that they started the fire in order to cover up the kidnapping?

Lu AnLing's heartbeat became irregular.

Suddenly, from the corner of her eye, Lu AnLing almost swore that she saw a familiar little figure but once she turned to it no one was there so she ignored it and allowed Chong Feng to lead her.

Once they were halfway down a hallway, a female doctor called to Chong Feng. The man and woman both stopped and began to converse with one another with serious expressions on thier faces.

Lu AnLings lowered her head and tried to be polite as she thought about her circumstances.

The woman who was by Chong Feng's side was old enough to be a mother.

She checked Lu AnLing out from the corner of her eye for a bit but she didn't say anything about the girl. However, the woman's face slightly twisted.

Seeing this Chong Feng told the woman to give her a second so he could speak to Lu AnLing, "Your grandmothers room is in the third hallway, then it should be the third door on the right. I'm sorry that I can't lead you all the way there, I have some work to do."

Lu AnLing nodded, "It's alright, thank you, anyway."

Lu AnLing quickly scurried down the hallway.

Once Lu AnLng turned the corner, Chong Feng turned to speak to the woman again but her eyes were focused on where Lu AnLing had disappeared.

"Is there a problem?" Chong Feng asked.

The woman shook her head but then she said, "Is that girl a friend of yours?"

"I guess you could say that, why?" Chong Feng's eyes narrowed.

"Nothing..."

Chong Feng's face turned serious. "Come on Doctor Su, don't be like that. You never mention things out of the blue like this,"

"Haha, you know me well." Doctor Su looked down the hall suspiciously for a moment. Her face clouded. "I think I know that girl."

"From where?"

Doctor Su avoided eye contact.

Even after Chong Feng has explained to her where she should go, Lu AnLing still managed to get slightly lost.

As she passed by rooms, she slowly peered into them to check if her grandmother was in there and so far, Lu AnLing was sure she was lost.

She walked as quickly as possible trying to find the room but nothing was going her way. She felt as if she was walking around in circles but there was no discernible sign proving that to be true. So her only choice was to push forward.

Once she got too close to the end of the hallway she took another right turn and then there, she suddenly heard a loud scream,

"Why do you always have to be so unreasonable!?" A girls voice echoed.

Then, from afar, Lu AnLing saw Lu Xia storm out of a room.

Lu AnLing's first reaction was to chance after Lu Xia but the girl had already disappeared by the time Lu AnLing arrived in front of the room that she had exited.

Looking inside Lu AnLing saw a dejected Grandma Lu who rubbed her eyes with considerable force as she sighed, as old people did.

Lu AnLing knocked at the door of Grandma Lu's room. She didn't dare go in without permission.

Seeing Lu AnLing, Grandma Lu unconsciously smiled but seeing the girl so hesitant, Grandma Lu couldn't help but frown.

Grandma Lu: "Child, what are you doing standing there like an idiot, come in!"

Lu AnLing did as her grandmother asked, and then as if the wind was pushing her, she swooped over to her grandmother's side to envelop the old woman in a hug.

"It's been a while..." Lu AnLing said for lack of anything better to say.

"Yes, it has..." Grandma Lu answered just as awkwardly.

A dead silence swooped across the place before Lu AnLing got the courage to speak.

"I...ugh, saw Lu Xia outside... why—"

"It's unimportant."

Hearing the way her grandmother's voice was firm, Lu AnLing didn't dare to ask any more questions. Instead, she hugged the old woman tighter.

Unshed tears began to sting at Lu AnLings eyes but she didn't cry just yet.

"I was so worried about you," Lu AnLing almost choked on her words.

Grandma Lu grazed sadly at the girl in her arms.

"I'm so sorry my sweetheart..."

Lu AnLing lifted her head up, her eyes burned and she squinted a bit so it looked like she was angry but more than that she felt immense sadness and fear.

When she didn't see her grandmother, it was easy for Lu AnLing to believe everything was going to be okay. But now that she could see the frail state the old woman was in, the girl could almost see a future where her grandmother was no longer alive and it almost brought Lu AnLing to her knees.

"Why are you apologizing to me..." Lu AnLing couldn't help but say with a low voice. However, as soon as the words came out, tears began to trickle down her face. "Granny what happened to you? I-I was so worried. Duyi said you were bleeding a lot..."

The more Lu AnLing spoke the more her voice cracked.

Grandma Lu embraced the girl as she tried to soothe her.

"It was just a case of arrhythmia. I fainted and unfortunately for me, I cut myself on the corner of the sink while I was on my way down," Grandma Lu let out a small dry laugh, "It shouldn't have been too bad. Your brother was just being a drama queen."

"You should have let Granpa accompany you to the bathroom or if that makes you uncomfortable, anyone else would have accompanied you. Please take care of yourself... I don't want to lose you..."

Lu AnLing sobbed louder.

Grandma Lu lifted up Lu AnLing's face with her hands. She whipped away the girl's tears and sighed sadly, "Stop crying child, you're ruining your beautiful face."

Lu AnLing tried to do as her grandmother wanted but the tears kept pouring out.

In all the years Lu AnLing had lived in the Lu Household, Grandma Lu had not seen her express much emotion, let alone cry.

Grandma Lu didn't know much about how Lu AnLing had lived her life before she had come into the Lu family. All she knew was that she had lost her father in an accident.

What kind? The woman didn't know.

When looking at how the girl couldn't stop her tears, Grandma Lu's heart wrenched.

Such a busy day yesterday that I passed out... And I'm still so tired but I'm in for another whole day of cooking. Yay me (no... not yay me at all.) Sorry, I'm not able to put up two chapters per day for the last two days. On the 27th we will be back to the usual 2 chapters per day!
