Picking New Skill

"Ugh, my brain hurt hearing all that tacky stuff. So, I should pick the very rare because it was super good, right?" Alice said while holding her head

"Yep, but I was curious as of why that skill has a very long name Diamond Skin, Jade Muscle, Emerald Bone. It as if it was 3 different skill all alone." on the side Alice was fiddling with her comlink.

She only hears the word 'Yep' and she straight away raises her dex with the free point that she has and clicked the very rare skill and press confirm to learn it.

"Ok, I got all my skills now you can help Kana pick her." She said while closing her eyes.

I assume she's processing all the information that she got from the skill.

"What do you mean you' got all your skill? you still have 2 empty skill slots to fill, aren't you?

Without opening her eyes Alice just gives her card's for me to scan and look at her skill.

"What the hell it was 3 different skills??? I thought it was one skill? Hey, how does the skill works? It better be super good cause it took all your skill slots." I ask while shaking her body a bit

"Can you stop it. I still processing the information that I got from the skill. I was super dizzy and you shaking my body was not helping." She smacks my head as a reward for disturbing her.

"Well, I guess we can help Kana pick her skill in the meantime," James said as I shrugged my shoulder

"Well, I have a bit more information that I want to share with you but let see Kana's skill list first so then I can be more sure about my deduction."

"You really passionate about this aren't you," She said while handing her card's

"Well yeah, what do you expect from me. I spent all my life play games and right now our life just turn into an RPG and we have a status screen, skills, and even class."

- Heal (int 10, wis 10, vit 5)

- Light Manipulation (int 16, wis 9)

- Fire Manipulation (int 13, wis 8)

- Water Manipulation (int 9, wis 12)

- Blood Manipulation Technique (int 25, HP 400)

After looking at the skill list Kana was down a bit. She was sad by the fact that she has a little less skill that compatible with her compare to Alice. On top of that, the thing that she can learn now is limited to 2 as the requirements are too high.

"Whooa now that's some high number you need to satisfy. You can either add 1 wis to your stats and learn Heal, or add 1 int and learn Fire Manipulation. So which one do you think better, Al?" James asked me after looking at her skill list

"If this was a game than I would choose to add 1 int and learn Fire Manipulation. But for Kana, I think you should to add 1 wis and learn Heal?"

"Why would you suggest her to do that? Isn't it better if she can manipulate fire and become a combat class? And I feel like fire manipulation is more versatile and have more use than only heal."

"First and foremost, this is not a game and we don't know what we have to do after we got this power. The only explanation we have is we have to try our best to survive in some new places because our earth is dying. In a game, it would be better for you to have an offensive option so you can solo the content. At the beginning of a game, it would always allow you to survive and become stronger to a certain level. But this is a real life and there's no guarantee you can do that."

"The second reason I would choose Heal is that the higher requirement it needs comparing to Fire Manipulation. In RPG games the higher the requirement for 1 skill the better the skill is. And last but not least is because of her class. Somehow when I read the trough the manual it emphasizes a lot on compatibility and 'depends on the user'. Also, do you remember what Mr. Poe say to us? 'The classification is by no means a failure it would only help us to find you a suitable field that you can shine on' And if what better stage for a priest to shine on other than Heal? She basically would become a priest that can heal from behind like in the game. And I don't think the heal skill would only be a simple 1 skill that can restore your HP I mean they listed with the other skills. So it must not be that simple."

"Okay, so you're saying I should choose Heal?"

"Yes, but in the end, it was your choice if you think choosing Fire Manipulation is better for you than I'm not opposed to that either. I just think what makes more sense and it doesn't mean it would always be the right choice."

Same as Alice after the word yes she just straight away raises her wis and choose to learn Heal. Do you guys really trust me that much? What if I told you to jump off a bridge. I look at Kana's face and I can sweat forming in her frowned forehead. I turn to look at Alice and her face look a bit calmer but I can still see some sweat on it. I didn't go check my potential skill list and straight away because I know Alice's would complain to no end if I choose without her. Even though the knowledge she had about games almost nonexistent she still enjoys watching when I play games. So in the meantime, I just discuss what I discover with James as he already has a full skill and can speak a nerd language as he usually the guy that I drag into my gaming madness.

"Okay, so far we know that we get our class automatically and we have no option of choosing classes. From all the data that we have, I think the most important thing we got from the experiment is actually not the class but the status."

"Why would you think so?"

"Well look at your status and tell me if you're a necromancer in the game would you say that your status distribution makes sense or not? High int, High wis for necromancer and priest. And for minstrel high dex."

"Yeah but you can also see it the other way around. For example mine and kana's class are lean more towards magic so our status distributes more towards int and wis. Right?

"But if you see it from a status perspective it would make more sense for Alice's case. Look at her statuses and see if it's fit a monk. I think she just barely met the requirement for the int and because of the endurance and vit stats, she ended up as a monk. And then look at the skill that compatible with Alice and Kana they're not really fit their job description rather fit their status more. A priest that got fire and water magic option is really not in the norm of the game, right? Also, Alice's monk got a lot more offensive option and I think it was because of her str stat that usually monk doesn't have that high str. "

"Well, I'll just accept it for now as there's no way to know it for sure. But what's the use of knowing that status is the root of all of this?"
