Oishi's lightning covered fist flew towards Arata's hand. Although Arata's eyes had caught him a little off guard, Oishi was still confident in his power.
'He wants to take me on without applying any Enhancements. This kid is just asking for it.'
The first level of Physical Enhancements was applying it directly on to the body. As with all magic, the power came from within you, but to manifest that power took different skills and techniques. The first level of Physical Enhancing involved taking the Elemental energy within and applying it on the body to empower it. Whether used to enhance strength, speed, flexibility or reflexes, or to apply the characteristics of certain beasts, there were different Enhancements, all to be used differently in battle. Each only able to be learnt by those that had the right affinity for the particular Enhancement that wanted to be used. And then, like with Oishi's case, you could apply an Element to your body. By adding the power and specific characteristics of that Element. In this case, Lightning.
Lightning was an explosive Element. It could be characterised by the intense speed and power. Like a lightning strike, the Element worked fast and decisively. Lightning users needed strong bodies to withstand the force that lightning propels you forward in. Oishi used the Lightning Element to create lightning bolts under his feet that would shoot him forward at blistering speeds. He then used the magnetic pull in the lightning to connect to the floor, landing safely and not being blown over. He then repeated this process, this was how he moved around at such a fast speed. He wasn't running around quickly, it was more accurate to say that he was being shot around the room by lightning bolts. And he was now being shot directly at Arata.
His fist was covered with his Element. He had created a circuit for the Lightning to flow around his arms, and the instant his fist connects with Arata, the Lightning would explode outwards through the point where the circuit broke. The Lightning would surge towards Arata and that would be the end of this battle. Oishi was confident at this point.
However the instant his fist collided with Arata's hand, Oishi knew something was wrong. It was like all his momentum had disappeared. Because of his element, his reaction and processing speed was faster than most, thus he was able to see and feel a little bit of what was happening.
He watched as what felt like his energy being drained in an instant into Arata's hand. The lightning on his arm rushed towards the hand and disappeared like it had been swallowed. He then watched as Arata raised his left hand and thrust it towards Oishi who instantly felt dread from the palm. He knew he had to dodge it.
He tried to move away but Arata's left hand had gripped his fist and pulled him in. Arata thrust his palm into Oishi's face, lifting him off his feet and slamming him into the ground.
The moment Oishi's head hit the ground, a surge of lightning exploded from him, sparks flying out. The wave pushed those nearest back a little, while they were also affected by the lightning that had been released.
The students were in complete disbelief. So this kid has Lightning Enhancements as well? How did he finish him so easily? They were excited when Oishi was able to land a hit on him, they had all believed that this new kid would finally be put in his place. But the next exchange after that completely ruined that possibility.
Teacher Mei was equally shocked. She hadn't expected this young boy to display such raw power. His techniques and tactics were things she had never seen before. Teacher Lu, who had previously looked as if he was just being dragged around by the Vice Principal and didn't want to be here, now had his jaw wide open. He had clearly seen him use the lightning element against his opponent, and he could feel that the energy wasn't an imitation but was genuinely his, but he couldn't sense any lightning affinity emanating from the boy.
How did he do it?
The only one besides Azrail and Arata who understood how was Vice Principal Zhang. And he couldn't believe it.
Having grown up with Azrail and fought beside him for many years, how did he not recognize the Third Sempiternal Art: Vitality Bestowal and the Sixth Sempiternal Art: Shadow Awareness.
This kid knew two Sempiternal Sacred Art's? And he was only 11? He gave a look of disbelief to Azrail, who merely shrugged and grinned. Does he know anymore? How much can this young boy learn? What kind of freakish training did he have to endure to have a strong enough body at this age to handle two Sacred Art's? And not just any Sacred Art's, but two Sempiternal Sacred Art's?
He continued to stare at Azrail. This man is definitely hiding more. He wouldn't have his son expose two Sacred Art's on his first day.
Is it possible for the child to know more? He glanced at Arata with a new found respect, but also with excitement at the prospects of teaching the talented young boy.
Arata stood over Oishi, who had a stronger build than the others and was able to keep consciousness but wasn't able to move much. He was defeated and he knew it.
Arata looked down on him, but for a quick second the arrogant facade had disappeared and Oishi saw a friendly smile on the young boy's face before it vanished and the arrogance had returned as he looked at the crowd. Oishi was left slightly confused at this. He knew there was a deeper meaning to that but he felt that Arata was hiding something and didn't want it revealed, so he kept these thoughts to himself for now.
Arata saw that Oishi kept the break in his facade to himself; he started liking him even more. This guy wasn't bad.
"I believe I get a room now, correct? Where is it?"
The students wanted to stop him but they saw what had happened. As much as they didn't want to admit it, he had power. And power spoke volumes here. No one was willing to stand in his way.
Oishi struggled a lot but was able to stand up. A couple students came in to help hold him up.
"You beat me, and it was my room, so I'll take you there, I need to take my stuff out anyway."
Arata nodded.
"But before we go, can I at least hear what your name is? Title and all?"
Arata didn't want to reveal everything now, he knew what would happen if he did. But he had a large amount of respect for Oishi, he actually liked his strength and character. Plus, after fighting him, he also had an idea for his cultivation method. He glanced at his father who stared right back. It seemed they were communicating for a few seconds before Azrail sighed. Arata turned to Oishi and smirked.
"Arata Sato. 11. Only son of Azrail Sato, the Angel of Death. Heir to the Sato Clan."
Oishi was stunned. He had guessed that he was from a large or noble family. But he had never expected that he was the son of the Angel of Death. One of the most powerful warriors in the kingdom. In fact it was almost a definite that most of the students in the room idolized Azrail and wanted to be a warrior like him. Many joined the South Wing because this was where Azrail had trained. Many of the students started looking at Arata in a new light now that they knew who he was.
Oishi was the first one to piece it all together and looked at Azrail. He could only stare in awe. Is it really him?
"S...Sir.....Sir Azrail?"
Azrail looked at the stuttering boy and grinned.
"You gained my son's respect. Not an easy feat, he has been raised around monsters and warriors his whole life. Not bad."
His eyes lit up at Azrails words, but before he could say anything else, Azrail turned around and had already started to leave. The shock in the room as everyone realized who he was, but before they could react he had vanished.
Silence filled the room. No one knowing what to say. Slowly all eyes landed on Arata who looked as if he hadn't realized or cared about the shock in the room. And he honestly didn't care that much.
He walked up to the still in shock Oishi and flicked him on the forehead.
"Stop zoning out, you were taking me to my new room, or did you forget."
Oishi regained his senses, and with the help of the students that helped hold him up, he led Arata to his old room. He organized for some students to move his things to another room. When they finished, he made way for Arata to enter. Oishi and all the students now showed him a large amount of respect compared to when he arrived.
"This is your room. The Static Room. The higher levelled rooms each have a name and special characteristics that help in cultivating. This room helped me a lot due to my element but a win is a win. And a loss is a loss. We'll leave you alone to settle in."
Arata saw a trace of sadness in Oishi's eyes before he had his cheery smile again and he walked to the door with the help of the two students on his side.
"Stop."
The three students froze in place. They slowly turned around to see what Arata had wanted. He pointed at the two students on Oishi's side.
"Put him on the chair and then the two of you leave."
The students didn't move, hesitating for a second, but Oishi smiled and nodded to them, so they obeyed and placed him down and left the room. Arata walked over and locked the door. He then made a few hand gestures and chanted before placing his palm on the door. He waited for a few seconds before looking at Oishi and sighing.
"Man that was such a tense atmosphere. Everyone here is so serious. Such a pain."
Arata's noble and arrogant air had vanished and now he was just an 11 year old boy throwing himself on the bed.
"So fluffy."
