Chapter 1Sucks to Suck

Throughout my life, I've often pondered the great cosmic question: what is the purpose of my existence? On paper, my life seems pretty ordinary—I get decent grades, I have friends, and I've never been abducted by aliens (though, I wouldn't mind a quick jaunt around the galaxy).

My dating life has been a series of hits and misses, mostly misses. I've had a fair share of relationships, but I never seemed to find that special connection. In fact, one of my partners had a hidden agenda, which led me to doubt my self-worth. It's a bit like finding out the cake you've been enjoying is actually made of cardboard—disappointing and slightly embarrassing.

In my quest for a distraction, I stumbled upon the curious world of fanfiction. At first, I thought it was just some bizarre subculture filled with overly imaginative individuals. But, as I dove deeper into these stories of extraordinary adventures and fantastical worlds, I found myself chuckling at the hilariously absurd scenarios.

Sometimes, I'd daydream about being whisked away to a world where I could fly or shoot lasers from my eyes. I mean, who wouldn't want to be a superhero, right? Even the idea of being born into a harsh, mystical world seemed like a thrilling adventure compared to my everyday life. I could already picture myself, dodging danger and eating questionable food in a magical realm.

As much as I enjoyed these stories, I couldn't help but feel a little melancholic. It was as if the more I read, the more I realized how uneventful my life truly was. It got me thinking: what's the point of living this way, just to grow old and wonder what could have been? Would I be doomed to a life of microwave dinners and binge-watching reality TV shows?

Then one day, as I was walking to school, lost in thought about my latest fanfiction obsession, I tripped over my own shoelaces and face-planted into a patch of grass. As I lay there, slightly bruised but mostly just embarrassed, I had an epiphany: life may not always be extraordinary, but it's filled with unexpected moments and small victories.

Maybe the point of my existence isn't to be a superhero or live in a fantastical world, but to find joy and meaning in the ordinary. After all, life can be funny, sad, and everything in between – and that's what makes it worth living. So, with renewed determination, I picked myself up, dusted off the grass, and vowed to embrace the humor and the peculiarities of my perfectly imperfect life.

Just as I took a step forward, a bus came out of nowhere and hit me. In that unexpected moment, lying on the ground and feeling slightly betrayed by the universe, I couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. Life truly was unpredictable.
