"You are very powerful humans. I hope you won't fail me. God knows I can't afford that to make the same mistake twice"

"What is it that we're meant to be doing?" Benjamin asked.

"Saving humanity"

If it weren't for the hold the girl had over her body Prim would've stumbled back in shock.

"What do you mean saving humanity?" Benjamin asked.

"There is both light and dark in the world. Every soul on earth knows this. But what most don't know is that the darkness can be defeated. The balance that everyone has just come to accept was always weighed heavier on the dark side. It was never an equal balance. And this is why you have been brought here. You two will defeat the darkness. And save humanity"

Prim and Benjamin both exchanged glances that were a mix of panic fear and confusion.

"The dark is called Mazereth. He is the entity who harms your people for the fun of it. I would defeat him on my own if I could, but lord knows my mind is nowhere as advanced as a human. It is not nearly as powerful"

"And what if we..." Die, was the word that came to Prim's lips but it would not leave them.

"Then I would've failed a second time. And neither of us want that"

There was a long silence. Then from the corner of her eyes, she saw Benjamin stand taller as he spoke.

"What do we need to do?"

Before the girl spoke again she turned her attention to Prim awaiting her answer.

"I-" But she didn't have one at the moment.

"You don't have to if you don't want to"

Benjamin said.

But she did want to. She just had so much to lose.

Prim sighed. "What do we have to do?"

The girl smiled. And Prim could see the tiniest hint of a smile dancing around Benjamin's lips as well.

"You are still tiered love's. You will need to wake up a bit more and let your eyes adjust. Then you'll know what it is you need to do"

Then the ear ringing began. Not as painful or loud as the last times but it still made Prim want to scream.

She shut her eyes, and when the ringing began to subside. When she opened them again the girl was gone and she felt the hold she had had over her body finally break.

Her legs suddenly gave way as the responsibility of holding her own weight was returned to her. But instead of collapsing like before Benjamin caught her by her arms and pulled her up.

"She's speaking in riddles," He said annoyed.

Prim rolled her eyes as she regained balance. "No, she's not. She basically said that we need to become more aware of the world around us"

Before Prim was watching her feet as she studied herself but when she looked up Benjamin was staring down at her with stunned eyes.

"How did you know that?"

"It doesn't take a genius to listen to what someone is saying"

Benjamin started to nod but then paused once he understood what she meant.

"That's not funny," He said as he and Prim exited the apartment.

"It sort of is" She laughed.

Prim hadn't noticed how many stairs there were when her body was being controlled by someone else. But now she was panting by the time she reached the bottom.

"Where are you heading now?" Benjamin asked as he opened the door.

"Home"

"Do you think she'll be dragging us back here again?" He asked glancing back at the run-down building.

"No, I don't think so. She'll probably just ask us to come back"

There was a long silence as they walked side by side. But Prim began to feel as if something weren't right.

When she looked up at Benjamin he was staring into the horizon among a sea of stars.

"What is it?" She asked him.

"You know you might have just thrown your whole life away right? I mean, You have a home. A family...Why did you do it?"

Another long silence.

Prim was surprised by how hard she had to think about that question.

"Some of us are made for a much bigger purpose than just being daughters or sisters" She shrugged. "What about you? Why were you so quick to throw your life away?"

He shrugged. "I've never had a family. Only people I am related to. And they could care less about what happens to me. And if I die it would be nice to die for something worth dying for"

More silence...

Prim suddenly came to a stop, forcing Benjamin to stop as well.

"I won't let that happen," Prim said. Then she extended a hand. "From this point on we're partners. I've got your back and you've got mine. Deal?"

All the stress from that day faded away when that smile appeared on his face.

"Deal," He said shaking her hand.

They laughed, then continued walking.

"We're gonna need a motto," Benjamin said after another minute of silence.

"Like what?"

he put a finger to his chin while he thought.

How about...partners first, Friends next-"

"And family always" Prim added.

There was that smile again.

"And family always" He repeated.

"We'll work on it more" Prim laughed.
