1 Meeting Zuna

Skin that absorbs the sun, dark like ebony wood. Big hair defying gravity, hair that fits on her body like a full, leafy, fluffy bush tree. her hair and skin routine left her smelling like vanilla, coconut oil, and shea butter. Sunken eyes, straight eyebrows, long but thin lashes, pointy chin, brown eyes, thick lips, high cheek bones, skinny body type. she stood at 5ft 3, which surprised her every time given her mother was 5ft 10. she hoped she would be taller haha. That was what Zuna Katana King looked liked. If you asked her, her hair was her best asset and she absolutely loved it.

Zuna: "... I think I should get time to settle into the new environment"

Jenny Kameni: " you will, I however think you should consider med school. That is the best option for you"

Zuna was really getting tired of this conversation. She had just finished high school and was now living in a completely new country. She left her home country (country G) right after she finished her final exams. She did not even have the chance to attend her own graduation. It was a big move for her and she felt like she would had more reasons to stay back than move to country U.

Ever since she arrived, relatives she barely knew together with her mom only seemed to only care about what her future career should be. They were sweet but this is really not what she had envisioned. At 17, Zuna did not think she had to have her whole life settled yet. There were so many things on her mind and her future career was not one of them. Even calling her mother "mom" was a difficult thing as of now but there she was insisting on what career Zuna should be taking.

Zuna's culture was different from those here, so if she spoke her opinion it was considered being disrespectful. Or as her relatives would say " we see you've grown, you can now talk back to us."

Jenny is Zuna's mom and this is the first time both of them would be living together. Jenny had left for Country U (current country) when Zuna was barely 4 and Zuna was raised by her aunty Lenny Kameni. She missed her aunt in times like this, and really all she was hopping for was to have a break.

Zuna had so many pent up emotions that she had pushed aside from when she was robbed at gun point, when Lenny passed, when she had to move from house to house, when she had to keep switching schools as much as she was moving. She doesn't even think she mourned well, Lenny was her first mom according to her. Lenny was all she new so her leaving just like that... Zuna was not ready and she was too young. She left when Zuna was at the age where she could remember everything and understand everything, yet could do nothing. This was the biggest trauma of her life and she never got a chance to heal properly.

After she moved to Country U, she was hopping she would finally get a chance to take a break, and seek help. She soon realized she had to push that idea behind too. But she knew that those emotions and these things she was putting aside will hunt her one day because she never catered for her emotions properly. She feared what the consequences would be once them time arrived.
