7 Chapter 7 ¶ Basement

After devouring the things inside the room she was in, she walks upstairs stealthy while raising her shield for any attacks and readying her knife to attack if something were to pounce on her

*Tap*

Arriving in an enclosed room, Mahiro saw that it was filled with canned foods, a bunch of gallons of water, toys, and another bunch of stuff on the shelves, there is also a white bed with a blanket and pillow and air ventilation on the wall.

The stairs leading to the room Mahiro was previously in were just beside a long stair that is going up.

"Oh, just another room"

'Wait, if my nano can eat that strange liquid, then maybe it can eat the food here too?

I don't want to waste some free stuff'

With that thought in mind, Mahiro gets close and touched all of the items in there, including the vent since she thinks it might be useful in the future somehow.

With the command of Mahiro, black smoke rises from Mahiro's body, and went to devour the things in there except for the bed, the nanobots devouring the items look similar to how worms eat food in a time-lapse but less gross to look at.

While waiting for the nanobots completely devour all of the items in there, she sat on the bed.

"Hmm, why don't I try that"

While her left hand holds both the shield and the knife, her right hand came forward with its back facing downwards, she tries to 'summon' the canned food the nanobots had devoured, and only a moment after that, the black smoke rises from the palm of her hand and made a shape, after that the black smokes start to return to her body again and while it happens, a can of tuna appeared on Mahiro's palm.

"Woah...

Should I eat it?

It's been a long time since I ate tasty food, and the food I ate in that lab tasted like shit

So a can of tuna couldn't be worse"

Mahiro then tries to open the canned tuna and it was easily done thanks to the strengthening serum Mizuki gave her, though Mahiro didn't notice her strength increasing, and without further ado, she picks a fish and throws it into her mouth, and chews it.

"It tastes fishy,

though it surprisingly doesn't taste bad for a canned food", said Mahiro as she throws all of the fish into her mouth at once and eats it.

"Not bad, not bad"

*Creak...*

The door from upstairs suddenly made a creaking sound.

'?!'

Surprised by the sound, Mahiro immediately when under the bed to hide and observe the person coming in here, if it was Mizuki, then Mahiro would sneak up on him and then torture him to death just like how he did to her.

*Tap* *Tap* *Tap*

With every step sounded, the sound of the step gets louder and louder, and also the tenser Mahiro is. Though unlike what Mahiro is feeling, her face was cold and expressionless.

With how Mahiro is currently tensed, she didn't notice that something is a bit weird with the sound of the steps. If Mahiro hears the sound of the steps carefully, she will realize there were multiple steps sounds almost at the same moment.

A few moments later, a voice can be heard from the stairs, "Hey leader, do you think there is food here? This place is a bit eerie", the timid sounded man asked

"Hey, brat!

What do you know?

You just joined a few days ago, so you have no right to speak!", warned the angry sounded man

"Y-Yes big bro!", the timid man replied meekly

"Alright, shut up you two

We will search for everything valuable here

And there might be a zombie in here so shut up!

Do you want to be like them too!?", warned the man which can be examined as the leader of the group from the commanding voice he carries

""Yes leader"", the two of the man replied

"Damn, I want to go back quickly and enjoy the women at the base, especially that blondie, she's so good", the leader of the group muttered

"Alright, here we ar- what? There's nothing here"

A few moments earlier, while the group was speaking, Mahiro heard their voice and confirmed that the one coming down from upstairs is not Mizuki but a group of men scavenging for resources.

'And here I thought I might be able to go home safely'. Looking at her hand holding the empty can of tuna, she uses her nanobots to clean it up

"Alright, here we ar-". A few moments later, the group finally arrived at the room and saw how empty the room is, "What? There's nothing here"

"Nothing except a bed, this room is weird", said the leader of the group suspiciously, "Hmm, maybe there's something under the bed?". The leader of the group moved toward the bed slowly

*TAP*

'Oh shit, I thought I am prepared for this scenario but seems like experiencing it directly is a different thing'

The leader of the group arrived, kneeled in front of the bed, and starts to tilt his head to what was under the bed

'What to do! What to do!?'

A flash of thought appeared on Mahiro's mind, 'Oh yeah! Why don't I do that'. And immediately put it into practice

Looking under the bed, the leader of the group saw nothing, "Seems like there's nothing here"

"Boss, there is another stair going downwards here!", said the earlier angry man

Hearing what his subordinate said, he went there and went downstairs with the two of them.

Under the bed, black smoke starts to shrink and disappear, revealing Mahiro underneath it

Mahiro sighed in relief, "It should be safe, let's go out now". Crawling from under the bed, Mahiro went upstairs as stealthily as possible.

For some reason, the stairs leading outside are very long, but Mahiro didn't even sweat from climbing them.

Arriving at the basement door, Mahiro immediately opens the door and noticed that the interior of the room she arrives in is different from the basement (Author: duh), she knows that she is now inside a house but didn't bother with it and ran towards the door leading to outside of the house

Holding the handle of the door, the handle dented because of the strength of Mahiro, but she didn't care and opened the door quickly

Looking at the sky outside, Mahiro exclaimed with happiness, "I-I'm finally out of that place".

A few moments later, Mahiro heard the sound of footsteps coming from the basement, looking at her attire, Mahiro then decided, "Well, I better run"

Somewhere else near the border of M and N City, in a strange room filled with tubes with a humanoid figure that some resemble human while some are far from it inside of it drowned with water, a man was kneeling and begging for forgiveness from the person in front of him with tears and snots, "Please, please, I'm begging you! Give me the second chance! I will definitely give you a satisfactory result!"

"You killed one of the best test subjects I had you know! I gave you a chance to work under me, and I gave you another one with the test subject I gave you! Now that you have used both of them and still failed, YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANOTHER CHANCE!", the mysterious figure in a wheelchair stated

"PLEASE, PLEASE, I'M BEGGING YOU!"

The mysterious figure does a gesture and suddenly, a really long tongue that appeared from above twirled around the begging man and drag him upwards, "AAAAHHHH"

*CRUNCH*

The mysterious man sighed, "Useless"

"Well then, should I do my job or experiment?"

"..."

"Tsk, alright, alright, I'll do my job"

The wheelchair carrying the man suddenly moved toward an exit (Author: omg, automatic wheelchair)

"Experimenting is better than managing a boring shelter, the people praise me here and there while the only thing I want is to experiment with human bodies"

"They are happy meanwhile I am not, it's not fair"

"..."

"Really?! Is that true? Will you really give me a new test subject?"

"..."

"Yay! Thanks teach! I'll do my best managing the shelter!", the man in a wheelchair goes out of the room happily.
