A New Reality

Erin reeled in shock at the realization.

Why was he so big? How was he able to think? Shouldn't he be a mindless zombie? How was this scientifically possible?

'If the pain came from the growth, I should have stayed unconscious during that part."

As for how he was turned into a zombie, and how he stayed rational, Erin could only guess. He supposed that the virus was transferred through blood or bodily fluids like in the movies and that the ability to maintain his humanity was because he woke up from the dream. As for what the dream was, he didn't know.

After composing himself, he took a look at himself in the floor to ceiling mirror in his mother's room.

When he saw his reflection, he let in a little bit of air that could only be called a gasp. Because of the... ya'know, missing throat.

His hair was the same pale, almost platinum blonde, and he still had his mole at the outer corner of his right eye, but his face and body were different. His face had become more chiseled, and his amiable baby face was gone. It looked more dangerous and feral. His eyes were originally green, but now they were grey, and almost seemed to reflect the light. They seemed to be glowing. His body had grown from 5'8 to what seemed to be 7 inches taller. His body was thin and had zero fat. Not the muscular, lean thin, but starving thin. You could count every rib easily.

Then he felt the hunger pains. It felt like he was being eaten from the inside. He stumbled to the kitchen and tore the refrigerator open. The door was ripped off and thrown behind him. He didn't even think about his new strength as he stuffed the cold foods into his mouth. Soon, he finished everything in the fridge. But it barely did anything and hunger pangs still tore through him. He then ate the fruits. The dried pasta noodles. The beef jerky. Everything, cooked or uncooked. The only thing that seemed to work was protein. The meat was the best.

The reason the food didn't just fall out of his throat as he swallowed was that only his larynx and airway were eaten. His esophagus was narrowly missed. The sight of food being pushed down his throat to the stomach was slightly unsettling.

Erin stumbled out of the house onto the street and barged into his neighbors' house. When he burst through the broken front door, he was greeted with a tantalizing scent and the sight of a zombie hunched over the struggling body of his neighbor.

Then he seemed to lose control. He lunged at the two. He pushed the zombie aside and began to tear into his neighbor's flesh. The zombie growled at the thief, but stopped soon after and shuffled to the side slowly. It wouldn't fight for the meal.

Erin's neighbor was quickly devoured and was soon nothing but bones and a few scraps. The skull was broken in order to get to the brain.

Did you know that the hearing is the last to go when you die? It takes a couple of minutes for your brain activity to completely fade. The poor neighbor heard his body being eaten as his consciousness faded.

After eating all of his neighbors, Erin was still hungry. He lunged toward the zombie and began to feast once again. The zombie was eaten as fast as the man.

Erin came out of his hunger fulled frenzy, he was horrified by what he had done. He tried to throw up the flesh, but the only thing that came out was bile. His body had already digested it. The results could be seen at a glance. His cheeks filled out a little, and his clothes didn't seem to be as loose.

Erin sat on the floor, staring numbly at his blood-covered hands. He didn't know his neighbor very well, but he sometimes waved to him when he came home from school.

Suddenly, a scream from outside jerked him out of his reverie.

"No! Someone help! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!" a woman screamed.

Erin stumbled to his feet, now wasn't the time to wallow in the past. He ran out the door, a little bit unbalanced, to the source of the scream.

A woman was fending off a zombie that was reaching into her car through a broken window. Tears streaked her face as she tried to force the zombie away. A little girl was curled up in a ball in the back seat, trembling.

Erin ran over and yanked the zombie back by the collar before he used his other hand to punch it. To his surprise, his hand went through the head and came out on the other side, soaked with the mushed brain. Erin withdrew his hand and stared at it. For some reason, it didn't seem disgusting, maybe even a little appetizing, but Erin focused on the woman he had saved.

The woman stared at him in shock and fear.

When the zombie was yanked back, the woman was relieved, but when she got a good look at her savior, her relief turned into despair. A tall man with various mortal injuries and blood on his face stared at her. His throat was ripped out and the place where his heart should have been was empty, not to mention the vicious claw marks that went down his upper body diagonally. There was no way he could be human.

Erin looked at the woman who was in obvious terror. He wanted to tell her that he would not harm her, but the air just whistled out of his torn throat. So he just held his hands up in a sign of surrender and stepped backward.

The woman stared at him, shocked and confused. Was he not going to eat her? She thought he killed the other zombie to eat her. She waited there for a couple of seconds before she gingerly stepped out of the car. Then, the groans of zombies reminded her that she did not have the luxury to take her time.

She kept her eyes focused on the strange zombie as she pulled her daughter out of the car.

"Come on Grace, we have to leave."

The zombie started to move and her terror came back. But to her surprise, the zombie pointed to a group of people boarding a van.

"You want me to join them?" she asked tentatively.

The zombie nodded. She stared at the zombie.

"Thank you. For saving us."

With those final words, she ran to the van, looking out for zombies as she went. When she reached the van, she quickly jumped in, and others pulled the door. The van drove off, a zombie running after it.

I dissected a pig. The only gross part was the smell. And the pig chyme. Yuck. Also cannibalism. Not the neighbor. The zombie. Lol.

This second part was written weeks after... I've got around 7 chapters planned. I might split them up for faster updates, or I might go slow and just up the word count. IDK. Depends.
