8 Chapter Eight

I've never dreaded to see a day like I did today, I was still exhausted from lack of sleep when I woke up, but I knew I had a long day ahead and I really didn't know how to get myself out of the situation I had to face. I knew cracking my mind wasn't going to get me anywhere, so I got out of bed at seven and went to make Ma breakfast before the whole crew occupied the kitchen. I'd really done a good job at avoiding my Aunts boyfriend and I hoped I would be lucky in doing that today. My mother didn't like fancy food, so I just made soft porridge for the both of us and quickly went back to the bedroom to eat with her, she was not yet fit to get out of bed but as long as she was with me nothing else mattered.

"Zizwe your phone has been vibrating the whole time". Ma said to me as soon as I went in caring the tray of food.

I wasn't really expecting anyone to give me a call this time unless it was Natasha or Nick. I took my phone from my mother saying thank you and checked who was calling me but found a text message from Gage. I guess I should have known that he was going to be a constant ache in my tummy because he just couldn't leave me alone and that drove me crazy. I opened the message, it only said. "Morning beautiful, I hope to see you today".

What the hell! He couldn't be seriously considering coming here, I made it clear to him that I was in a serious relationship and had enough friends already. Ma was saying something to me, but I didn't really hear a word she said since I was now on panic mode, I really didn't want more drama in my life and Gage was threatening to do exactly that.

"Is everything okay Zizwe, you don't look too good, are you fighting with Nick?". Ma was giving me a serious look from the bed and I didn't really know how to answer her question as I was still confused myself. I decided that Gage was just trying to put me on edge and decided to ignore him again, what would make him come here anyway I'm sure he lived in the suburbs and wouldn't bother coming to this dusty place looking for me.

"Everything's fine Ma, Nick and I are not fighting it's just that he invited me to come over to his house today as there's a surprise party for his dad, but you know how his mother is like towards me, I just don't want to go there that's all and I don't really have anything to wear". I lied to my mom while going to sit next the bed and taking my bowl of breakfast avoiding eye contact with her.

Part of the lie was true because I didn't have anything fancy to wear and I didn't want Nick's mother picking up on me in front of strangers. I left my mother when we were done eating to wash the dishes and found my Aunt in the kitchen with her boyfriend, I guess this is a small house to avoid bumping into them. There was a paper bag on the table, and I wondered who it belonged to until my Aunt decided to torture me about it.

"So Zizwe you're going somewhere today huh". I was familiar the look she was giving me, but I decided to ignore my aunt and her boyfriend watching me from across the table.

"Answer me or I won't give the package that was sent for you this morning". That pecked my attention and I quickly turned around to face her.

"What package are you talking about Aunt". I shot back at her.

"Look she talks" She said resting he hand in her chin taunting me.

"Your boyfriend came here earlier and left this for you, he said you were going out today, but I thought I'll just give this to Enhle since she would look good on that dress or maybe I should wear it instead... what do you think Prince?". Ben five just shrugged his shoulders at her, I guess he didn't find the situation amusing as she did this time.

"I really don't have time for this Aunt so please pass the bag so I can prepare myself". I tried reaching for the bag, but she snatched it away from me and started laughing at me showing her teeth which were not a good sight to see, especially in the morning.

"So, he really is taking you out then, I wonder what the boy sees in you brat, I mean look at you. All skinny and looking like a boy I guess Enhle will have to start dressing up so he can finally notice her curves and cleavage because you really lack in that department my dear, men really appreciate a woman who has some meat you know". She threw the bag at me and turned around to make out with her boyfriend as if I were not there.

When I was done with the dishes, I went back to mom's room to check the contents in the bag and found a beautiful lace yellow dress that screamed luxury and elegance, there was a box of shoes also on the bag which were white wedges that would fit perfectly with dress. I rarely wore dresses, they made me feel uncomfortable, I was wondering how I was going to wear this one because when I put it on it was on my knees but as soon as I started moving it would hitch up and show my too bright thighs and that's what I hated. I really didn't like my legs; they were short and built like scissors which is why I always wore jeans to cover them up. Nick must have spent a lot of cash on this dress I though because it really looked like it cost him a lot of money, how could I deny going to his house if he does this now. Just as I was getting out of the dress my phone vibrated next to my mom, I don't know why I kept leaving it next to her because she might answer it for me one day and that would be a disaster.

"Hey babe".

"Hello love, I've been trying to get a hold of you what's up?".

"Nothing much babe I’m checking out the items you sent me, thank you. But how did you know?"

"Know what babe? that you'd say you don't have anything to wear today to make an excuse not to come. You see I made it easier for you. Now you don't have to stress about clothes, you just need to look beautiful and sit next to me the whole-time babe". I kept quiet, I guess I didn't have an answer to that, well I was planning to come up with such an excuse, but Nick knows me too well.

"What do you say munchkin, please just do this for me, I promise you won't regret it".

''Are you there babe?".

"I'm here I'm just...well I really I don't know what to say but I'll come though should anything happen I'm leaving as soon as possible Nick".

"Stop stressing babe and start preparing I'll be there in two hours to get you, Natasha's also coming, if that makes you feel better, so you won't be all by yourself".

"Ok babe I'll be done when you get here, do you think there will there be a lot of people coming?".

"I'm not really sure munchkin but I'll be with you the whole time, and if I go somewhere, I'll make sure that Natasha is around you at all times okay".

"Okay".

"I love you Zizwe, you know, that right?"

"I know babe, I love you too"

"Ok babe, I'll see you when I get there, can't wait to see you in that dress".

'' And I hope I wont regret wearing it ''. I retorted.
