1 Regret

The rain was pouring heavily making the grounds slippery. A heaven send gift to a black hooded young man running swiftly past the populated town market. His backpack filled with weed he was supposed to deliver.

His Nick air force shoes making a splash on the pavement as he looked back to see if he was still being followed.

He spotted them immediately from far, five guys from different ethnic backgrounds were coming after him in colored tracksuits.

Zaid cursed every name he could think of wishing they receive hell in this world in the most painful way as he turned into a corner opening his phone to call the bitch that put him into this mess to start with.

The phone rang, he held it onto his right ear underneath the hood as he neared the traffic light, coming out of the market.

"Yo what's happening?" he heard a familiar older man's voice answer.

Zaid was pissed, he could feel his heart pumping hard. He never felt this angry in his 20 years old life. If he made it out alive, he swears on his useless mother's life he would kill this f*cker.

The light fleshed green. Zaid crossed the road running hurriedly past pedestrians.

"Listen to me you fucking paki. Mike's dogs are coming after me. Apparently this was their ends. Their fucking territory and they're calling for more guys. They probably got knives on them," Zaid said coldly. "You either come and help me or I swear to Allah or whoever the fuck a bitch like you believes in, I would call the feds on myself and make sure you all go down with me."

He heard a long sigh coming from the phone as he moved past shops.

"Relax, I am going to call few guys. Mike has been getting a bit arrogant these days. He needs to know he can't touch any of my guys including a piece of shit like you kid. Go to Abbie's place, take the 377 bus and get off after 2 bus stops. She will wait for you there. " he hanged up.

Zaid had a sudden urge to take a cigarette. His breathing become shallow the more he ran, the bus stop was getting close.

Lady luck must have been smiling at Zaid because the bus arrived into his eye view There were few people waiting at the bus stop.

Just as Zaid was about to sigh in relief, he suddenly felt a tingling on his spine. He stood up on guard looking around. His instincts never lied to him. Those guys shouldn't be this fast he thought to himself.

Zaid couldn't see familiar faces until he saw a a glaring red Nissan Versa following the bus he was about to aboard.

The window rolled down revealing a dark skinned obese man. It was Devin, Mike's sideman and he was wearing a face mask, his lackeys were also wearing similar attire.

Zaid didn't look further, he changed directions. His hands were shaking. He seriously might die over a fucking gang fight he didnt even care in the first place.

Wind brushed his light complexion face as tried to locate for spots where many people were in.

Just as he was about to go to a populated area he seen, Zaid's backpack was grabbed and before he could do anything, it was forcefully taken.

He knew he was dead as he was forced to turn around to look at his attacker. It was Devlin's lackey. A caucasian man with a buzz cut and a face mask on. The one who held his backpack was Tang Yuan, a Chinese with a similar face mask. Zaid remembered his name because he was the only asian in the city to have this illegal profession. It was ironic. An immigrant coming for a better life yet he ends up being in a gang.

Zaid looked towards the sky, he didnt want his last moments to be about these useless losers who society has abandoned.

Blood gushed out as Zaid was fatally stabbed multiple times through his chest. He fell as crimson blood covered his view.

His last thoughts had nothing to do with his shithole family nor the gang he regretfully joined.

It was about football. He wouldn't watch the football games again nor go to Friday Football weekly to hone his skills. And the money he saved up for months to buy football shoes would be wasted. And most of all he wouldn't be able to dream about becoming a footballer anymore. His only utopia that made living bearable.

He even became a drug seller so he has enough money to support himself going across the country for try outs, football kits, shoes and practice. It was all useless at the end was Zaid's last thoughts before darkness embraced him.
