6 Chapter 5 | Enters the MC and Welcome to Duel Academy

''Good game.'' I said after walking over to the examiner and streached out my hand.

Turning his head up he looked at me through his glasses and sighed.

''Huuh... I really lost in all sense of the word...'' He said before taking my hand and I helped him get up.

''Don't be like that you nearly had me during that third turn and it's not like you used your actual deck.'' I said, but the examiner's face turned odd.

''Yah...I guess so...'' He said with a distant look and a wistful smile.

Confused I was tempted to ask him what he meant, but in the end held off on doing so. The examiner then left with some closing remarks.

''Congratulations on your acceptance into Duel Academy. Your dueling ability is quite remarkable, but I suggest getting more use to your own cards and fixing up some of those...cards.'' He said with a reminiscent smile, probably referencing to Sparks, but I took his advice too heart.

''Was it that obvious that I'm kinda new to my deck?'' I asked with a strained smile and the examiner's eyebrow twitches before he walks away.

Returning to the spot me and Syrus where hanging out, an announcement sounded for an extra examination duel on the PA.

[Examination . 36732: Jaden Yuki, Arena 1.]

Hearing the name of the main character of Yugioh GX I smirked quickening my pace, so I wouldn't miss the start of the duel. I wonder if Syrus will even meet Jaden in this timeline?

After meeting up with Syrus I also meet Bastion, apparently from the looks of things, Jaden ended up meeting with Syrus and Bastion at the same time, while they watched my duel., so not much has changed. Though when I met Bastion he seemed a bit... weird.

''Your Bastion, right?'' I asked turning to the black haired white boy who had slightly downcast eyes, but he seemed shocked.

''You know me?'' He said, his eyes becoming slightly dilated and shacky as he opened and closed his mouth. The sight shocked me but I didn't let it show, I thought I had something wrong or stepped on a landmine since his reaction was so intense, but I couldn't think about any hidden meaning to 'Your Bastion, right?'. So in the end I decided to just roll with it.

''Yah, you ranked really high on the written exam, right?'' I replied remembering Syrus calling him a dueling genius in canon.

''Well I got 2nd place... but I won't be satisfied until I'm first.'' He said with an invigerated look in his eyes. 'Damn perfectionist, 2nd place is good too.' I thought to myself, but after looking at his eyes I realised something.

'Wait arn't I the person in 1st place for the writen exam?' I realized and than looked over to him.

Shit dose he think of me as a rival now, I mused, but looking at his resolved eyes I was pretty sure he saw me as some rival now, shit. Wait was the reason he reacted so strongly earlier because he felt inferior to me? Than dose he think me knowing about him, means I acknowledge him or something...Fuck! That's totally what he's thinking...

Shakking my head tiredly at the thought of being pestered for a duel, I turned to look at the match between Jaden and Crowler. It ended the same way as canon, but their wasn't as much of a reaction from the audience, including from Syrus and Bastion. When I asked about it, Syrus answered.

''It kinda felt lack luster compared to your duel.'' Syrus said and Bastion nodded.

''Although it's a duel I'll be analyzing later, it felt less thrilling when compared to your duel, in which you played your opponent from the start and no one had realized until your second last turn.'' Bastion added and I couldn't help but nod, although it was inspired from a strategy I saw a while ago from YouTube, as well as being the normal style of dueling back in my world, it may seem super smart hear.

Or maybe that people here are just stupid, I mean, I had looked at past Duel Academy exams and the questions where all either slightly complicated duel scenarios or questions about cards and their application.

Shaking my head I decided to give up on it for the moment. Turning to the arena I took one last look at Jaden before getting the contact info of Syrus and Bastion. Since the fly to duel academy wasn't until a few days, I decided to relax for the little bit of time I have left... and maybe find some replacement cards so I wouldn't have to use Sparks.

But remembering something, I looked towards my phone, which was connected to my duel disk and clicked on the notification.

[Achievement - Become a student of Duel Academy]

[Reward - [Magicalized Fusion] x1, [Dragon Mirror] x1]

I guess I can get rid of Sparks sooner than later, but I don't know what I'm gonna do with Magicalized Fusion...

...

About a week later I was on a helicopter alongside Bastion, Syrus, and Jaden. After talking a bit me and Jaden quickly became friends, the only downside however was...

''Come on let's duel!'' Jaden said as he eagerly held his deck out.

''For the last time, we're in a helicopter flying in the air! We don't have the room to play a game.'' I replied but Jaden remained stead fast.

''Come on, we don't even have to make it an official game, how bout a quick one? What if we start with only 2000 life points?'' Jaden continued to pester me the entire ride, until I turned to my bag, took out a bag of chips and threw them at Jaden's face.

After recoiling from the force of the chip bag to his face, the bag fell into his lap and Jaden looked down to it. Registering what happened, a smile appeared on his face.

''Cool free food, thanks Illumi!'' He said as he opened it up, Syrus turned to me with a pleading face and after sighing I took out another bag of chips.

''Why did you bring food?'' Asked Bastion with a complicated gaze.

''Are you kidding, it's gonna be a long flight. I also brought some games and more snakes.'' I said to Bastion while holding a bag of chocolate and a deck of poker cards. Bastion seemed flabergasted as he ulternitaly looked between the poker cards and choclae.

''What not a choclate persone?'' I asked and he shook his head.

''That's not it, chocolate, with proper consumption, can lead to increase productivity. What I was surprised at was how much you prepared.'' Bastion replied and I tilted my head.

''What do you mean, it's a 4 hour flight. I think I actually packed quite light.'' I said and Bastion and Syrus turned to me with surprised faces.

''4 hour flight!?'' They both exclaimed, taking me by surprise.

''Did you guys not check it? I can understand Syrus, but you too Bastion?'' I asked in a surprised manner, earning a ''Hey!'' from Syrus at the mention of his name. Coughing lightly Bastion explained.

''I had calculated the time to take their by boat. Since their was no air-port on the island, I naturally ignored most arial transportation... I guess that caused me to over look plains.'' Bastion explained and I gave an understanding nod.

While we where talking about the Duel Academy and about the trip, Jaden suddenly interjected into the conversation.

''Hey do have you have any board games?'' Jaden asked as he discreetly ate some chocolate. Turning to him I nodded and pulled out a small board of snakes and ladders and handed them it to Jaden along side the playing pieces and die.

Turning back to my conversation with Bastion, we began talking about card affects and to a lesser degree, card lore, which I was quite interested in for some weird reason, they were sometimes like story tales or myths.

Arriving on the island we where set to have a orientation with the group we arrived with on the helicopter, after that we were meant to go and receive our class. Since Bastion started in Ra yellow I would too, right? Though I'm not too exited by the ugly yellow jacket...

And so the orientation went the same, but when I was receiving my jacket, I was pulled aside, by Professor Crowler.

''Hello student, I'm Dr. Crowler, the head professor and department chair of dueling.'' He introduced and since he didn't seem to have a bad impression of me or seemed to want to start trouble, I decided to give a neutral reply.

''Hello Doctor, is their something you need from me?'' I aske but he freezes.

''Y-you know I'm a doctor! hahaha. Of course, a promising young duelist would know about the great Vellian Crowler!'' He seemed to have misunderstood something, but I decided to let it go, since he seemed happy. with a small cough, he controlled his happy mood and went back to the topic at hand, though it was hard not to notice the happy smile on his face.

''Well anyways student, I sadly have bad news...'' He said with a serious face and I listened intently.

''Sadly, even though both your written and practical exam scores are worthy of obelisk blue, since you don't meet the secondary requirements you'll have to start at Ra yellow...'' He said with a guilty and sad tone near the end, it seemed he wanted me to be in obelisk blue.

''Could I ask what the secondary requirements are?'' I asked intrigued by the new aspect of duel academy, that wasn't in the anime... to my knowledge anyways.

''The secondary requirements for obelisk blue are a track record so to speak. It could vary from having a diploma from a dueling prep-school, tournaments you've won, or recommendations. In your case, you haven't even participated in a tournament so you aren't eligible for obelisk blue until you start building up your portfolio of duels. Though not to worry, with your talent, you'll soon reach obelisk blue, without a doubt.'' Dr.Crowler said seeming to be reinvigorated at the end. Nodding my head I could understand their reasoning, it's like how a university won't except you without proper grades, in my case it would be like I aced the entrance exam, but I haven't even gone to high school.

''That being said, since you'll soon be a top student of obelisk blue and one of my direct students, please feel free to ask me anything.'' Dr.Crowler said and I was reminded by his over the top elitist mind set from the anime.

Nodding my head I suddenly remembered something as I looked at his teaching uniform.

''Actually there is one thing, if it isn't much trouble...'' I started, but Dr.Crowler cut me off.

''Name it, anything!'' Dr.Crowler answered.

''Ok in that case...'' I told him my request and he nodded his head.

''Something like that isn't even a request for someone like me! Don't worry, I'll have it sorted in the hour!'' Dr.Crowler said as he walked away. Bowing my head slightly in thanks I realized, he's pretty convenient, I should use him to his fullest.
